So nice to see a couple eating at a table, together and talking about your day. I have always insisted we sit at the table. My daughter and her friends frequently joined in and we had a chance to hear about their day. We have been married 52 years and I think family meals are a big part of building a close home. Thank you for sharing your meal with us.
I’m literally watching this and listening with earbuds in the deer blind. Lord willing, I will serve this to my family in the near future. Thanks for the recipes and the inspiration always.
Corie, at 78 years old I have been cooling for myself for 16 months. My baked potato is cooked just like yours with additionally, dry the potato, rub in bacon grease, coat with Kosher salt, and cook just like you said. Enjoy and Lord Bless
❤ as tipper says ". A feast!" I grew up with canned venison!!! Loved the gelatinous part, when made into a gravy with the juices!!! Soooo good! Your green beans, amazing. I need to, make more cornbread! I laughed at the piercing the skin of the potato. If it's done with knife or fork, it can be dangerous!!!! Everytime I do it, I'm thinking of the hazards!!!! I don't wrap my potato, I do rub it with crisco ( bacon grease would be devine!!! But have so little ( only cook for one) I like either a soft skin or crunchy!!! Because it takes so much time to bake, I usually microwave, mine ,this definitely makes. Soft skin ( I think when I use the oven ,it's more likely to be crispy?) I pull my potato like Austin does. Load it up with butter and sour cream. I have always eaten my potatoes with raw cold diced onions!!!!! Outstanding, giving crunch to a bite!!! Thanks for sharing this video had it all! Preparation, information, the love between the two of you, Olive, making herself known. Good homegrown, canned, fresh meat, ... Nutrious comfort meal!!! God bless and keep, you all, prayers for Granny 👍❤️💯🥰😋
Yummy! Corn bread looks so good! Corie have you ever tried rubbing the potato with olive oil and sprinkling sea salt on it , wrap in foil then bake. It is so good. Pray Katie finds a good guy like Austin. You guys are such a sweet couple. Many blessings.
Good cooking Corie. Im 60 and this year was the 1st time that hubby and I canned chicken and hamburger and chuck roast. The flavor is unbelievable! People don't realize that putting all your meat in the freezer will all be thrown away when you lose power. And it's coming. You need to think about being able to have meat. I don't have to rely on the grocery store often, I shop in my basement. Thanks for sharing
When my kids were home i would make a big bowl of mashed potatoes with lots of butter and cream and heat up a jar of deer meat but add some flour to the liquid to make gravy. Yum!
Nice getting a peek into your daily lives. Always interesting to see how other people live, ha! But seriously, it's a blessing to see down-to-earth, kind, God-loving people living simply and without pretense. I'm looking forward to making some cornbread in a cast iron skillet using your recipe. And, just a heads-up on olive oil--many brands do not use "pure" olive oil but deceptively combine it with other seed oils. There are resources out there to help you find 100% olive oil from a trusted source.
I was just about to say the exact some thing.. there is also a lot of variants in Olive oil such as Italian, Spanish or Greek. Cold press or first pressed is not good when heated.. If you want the benefits of a good Olive oil it is worth researching. However if you are happy with what you are using and it works for you and your family, there is definitely no problem with that. 🙏😊🇦🇺
You can save that deer fat and melt it in a crockpot on low, filter in jar for shelf "oil" then you can use that for the cornbread in your pan😊 Deer fat uses: flavor beans, 2 tbs for popping popcorn, making soap, greasing pans, couple spoons to mix in homemade dog food, biscuits, pie crust..many uses
I’ve never had canned deer. I’m not familiar with anyone in my area that goes deer hunting, but I bet you could make deer meat tacos! Years ago my dad had a friend that would go deer hunting. He’d give part of it to my dad. Then daddy would take it to my uncle, his brother, who ran a small town grocery store. He was also a trained butcher. He would ground up the deer with some beef, turn it into hamburgers. They were great!
Corie! Thank you so mu for both videos on canning and preparing a venison meal. We put up venison via butchering & freezing in vacuum packs. We freeze large cuts & chop up stew meat. I’ve never canned any type of meat, because I was not ever taught how to. Your instructions along with the videos by your momma are teaching me. I’ve also been afraid of botulism in canning my own meat, so courageously I’m inspired! By the way I received the order of soap from your Etsy Shop that you made! It’s fantastic! I love the earrings I order from Katie too! Y’all are the best! Blessings, Allison 🍁
Thank you for the explanation about canned (and processed properly) deer meat. I've never had it this way. Have had some lovely deer roasts shared by friends. I find deer to be a rich flavored meat. Haven't had it in many years, but memories last.
This meal looked so wonderful and tasty! We preserve beef stew meat and I assume the canned deer meat is similar. We eat it right out of the jar, too! Sometimes with my leftovers I will turn it into vegetable beef soup the next day. That with leftover cornbread can't be beat!! Love seeing you and Austin share your meals and chat with us. So nice, thanks for taking us along!🙂
Wow, that looked so amazing! I just finished supper, but this video made me hungry again! Putting it in scrambled eggs sounds great! Thank you, and God bless you both 🙏
Looks yummy! We can turkey in late fall when prices are low. Its a lot more meat than a chicken. It looks like a science project in the jar when the fat separates but man is it good, especially with noodles, mashed potatoes and green beans with a little bacon grease. Oh yes, got to have the corn bread. Thanks for sharing ❤
That looks so yummy! I'd probably make a roux in my skillet before adding my deer meat to make a gravy. You could put it over mashed taters, rice or eve cook some egg noodle and put in it with a little of the pasta water to make a little more broth!😋
I wish I liked deer meat, but I’ve never tasted any I like. It’s always gamey, and I’m told it has a lot to do with what the deer had been eating. Thanks for sharing your meal with us, anyway. ♥️🙏🏼♥️
My wife worked with an old woman in the school kitchen. She said put a pinch of crushed red pepper in the beans. We do it every time now. It gives them a better flavor
I will have to try canning our deer this year. You have definitely piqued my interest! As for the flavor I agree with Austin, it’s similar to beef. We eat wild hog too and I cook it exactly like I do deer and one way we love to use those two meats is in stroganoff. I bet the canned deer would be fabulous in that as well! Thanks for sharing!
"A feast!" as Tipper would say. Corie, do you make anything with the leftover juices from the canned deer and canned beans, like soup? I bet the deer would be delicious as a pie with ready rolled puff pastry on top x
Yeah I've actually wondered that, I seen your family canning deer meat, but I had never heard of that. My dad was a deer hunter, we would store it in a large freezer. Frankly canned deer meat doesnt sound very appetizing but I'd try it! Thanks Corie.
Been married for 32 years. My wife makes the best corn bread. She has always used the same skillet for corn bread. It is all that skillet is used for and hasn’t been washed in all these 32 years. She gets it good and hot with oil before each use.
Deer meat has a wild taste different than beef to me. But seasoning it or marinating it flavors the delicious deer meat. Also, we like deer meat and fresh hog sausage mixed together. Have never tried canned deer meat. Waiting on a son to get a couple of deer as soon as hunting season starts. People might think it is horrible to eat deer meat. But store bought meat has ton of hormones and processed chemicals. A daughter brought up on a small farm. We ate our own chicken eggs, own cow meat and sausage. Store meat has a horrible taste and l don’t eat at all…. So if you have never ate fresh meat, don’t give me a rude comment. I eat mostly vegetables and fruits now…. …
Seeing that cornbread and green beans made me think of home as a kid. Good job guys. I watched you videos on prepping. Stay after it girls. You keep on prepping and learning and will keep watching your progress. Thank you
Looks good! I love the Mason jar openers. You get the lid off quickly from your canned items without any dents in the lids. I purchased a few of them from Amazon.
I have enjoyed deer meat all my life and prefer it to beef in chili and other things but have never had canned venison. I will have to watch the videos and talk to my husband to see if we can try it with our a deer! God bless you!
Nice cast iron! Nice looking supper! I cook my green beans down until no liquid takes about 30 min per quart with just a touch sugar! Meat or not beans cooked down is so tasty!
Thanks for another great video, Core and Austin! I have only had the opportunity bro try deer bologna and,I didn't care for it..Wish I could try some canned meat or some back strap someday!
What a GREAT Wonderful Husband you have!!! Corrie you are a Great Wonderful Wife too!!! You two are Absolutely Amazing and Great together!!! God Bless Us All!!!
I've never had canned deer meat. I learned something new today. This with the skillet cornbread is really smart when you want home made food but don't have all afternoon to cook.
You can pour the juice into a sauce pot and top off with a bit of beef broth and bring it to a boil, thicken it with a flour slurry or corn starch. Add the meat back in and simmer until heated thru, ladle over mashed potatoes or rice or noodles. On a side note you can bake potatoes in a slow cooker in the summer if you don’t want to heat up your house. Just rub them with oil and a bit of salt wrap in foil and drop into your slow cooker on high for 4-6 hours depending on the size.
I brown my deer meat and then remove from the pan. Add some oil in the pan and make gravy. When gravy is ready add the meat back in the pan. Serve over mashed potatoes or egg noodles. I also have green beans or whatever vegetable and biscuits. My family will eat it till they are stuffed. lol
I have to have some fat in my meat for it to taste good to me. I like the taste of Bison, but being so lean makes it dry without some beef fat mixed in. Deer makes good jerky as long as it's flavored well.
You cook everything just the way I make mine. I never ever throw away the beautiful juice in the jar with green beans or deer meat or anything I have with juice in the jar. Awesome looking supper Corie! Thankyou for sharing!💖 Love it!I need to cook a meal like y'all's. I don't have a way to get any deer though. 😥 You and sweet Austin are beautiful together and compliment each other. 💖💙
I love to pan fry venison butterfly chops in butter after seasoning it lightly with homemade "copycat Lipton's onion soup mix." Then I put it on a fresh Italian roll with a slice of provolone and some sautéed onions. 🤤😋 MMMMmmmmMMMM! (Chef's kiss!)
Well, I aint kiddin' Olive is the star of the show again... I like the way you two are discussing value of the quart of the dear meat. workin' it all out what a heavenly match. ☺☺
Looks delicious. 😊 When you said you got 7 quarts of canned meat from one deer, is that ALL of the meat, or did you also get other cuts from it? Just curious. 👍❤️
Looks very good! I would have thickened that meat and broth with cornstarch and put it over rice or mashed potatoes. A big glass of southern sweet tea. YUMMY
Those green beans looked SO GOOD coming out of the jar, hungry for some now. Olive does what our Border Collie does (that gentle head on the lap, just in case you want to slip her a bit, lol). Austin is blessed to find a young woman who enjoys the deer he harvests and I mean to the same level (at least, haha) he does. My husband is not a hunter, nor is my dad. We are not in any habit of ever eating deer meat. Happy to say our daughter is more adventurous and took to the eating deer/elk/goose/duck when she started dating a hunter (and she sincerely loves it). THANK YOU and y'all are such an excellent couple, a matched-set. 🙌🏼 💞
This is a great video, as always, but I gotta say that the star of the show was Olive resting her head on Austin's leg. ADORABLE!!
Olive is so sweet. “They’ve GOT to drop something “ 😊

Corie you are a treasure!! I could listen to you all day you have a lovely voice!! I have been canning venison for probably 50 years love you guys!!!!

Yummy! Corn bread looks so good! Corie have you ever tried rubbing the potato with olive oil and sprinkling sea salt on it , wrap in foil then bake. It is so good. Pray Katie finds a good guy like Austin. You guys are such a sweet couple. Many blessings.
I use melted butter in my cornbread pan. It adds tremendous flavor.

Olive sure was begging on Austin’s leg. So cute.

Deer gumbo, that sounds good!

When we fry/bake deer steaks we soak it in some milk for 15-20 min before and it will take the gamey flavor out. Yummy!
