- The Blancpain series of dive watches have a history that is just as storied as some of the more infamous and famous dive watches of the same era. The vintage Blancpain dive watches are becoming increasingly rare as a result of collectors holding onto these specific timepieces and very small production numbers by Blancpain, to begin with. The Armed Forces were early adopters of Blancpain dive watches. Including the French and American Navy as were the early underwater explorers such as Jacque Cousteau among many others. The early Blancpain dive watches embody the golden era of design and innovation that we love from the late 1950s into the 1960s.

It's not like glass but it is something you need to be aware of especially when wearing it. And its a very cool watch one of my favorite dive watches of all time!

I believe this is the Fifty Fathoms you brought the night I bought the 1680 from you back in 2017. You had it on a khaki colored strap at that time. Super awesome watch 👍🏼

In fact, in 1952 both Jean-Jacques Fiechter and René Jeanneret were amateur SCUBA divers and both wanted a black dial dive watch with rotating bezel.
That's how Blancpain & Rolex almost brought out the same type of black dial diving toolwatch in 1952 & 1953. By 1957 used by US Navy used as Tornek-Rayville....
JJF wore a prototype to a dive where a Rolex director was present. It's not a coincidence. BP was first. If ones keen on diving more into the history, not myth, I recommend a talk by Jeffrey Kingston.

At first he wrote the article about debunking the Fifty Fathoms not being a first modern dive watch, I almost fell for it. And then he wrote another article about the Zodiac Seawolf was not came out in 1953. This guy really has a Rolex fanboy agenda, he really want the Sub to be a first dive watch
