this was such a great party. brought tears to my eyes to see this. that night was epic for me. in some small way my life change at that party. dose anyone remember the guy on top of the dunes during sunrise? he had long hair that blew in the wind and was wrapped in a blanket. when he opened his arm as to embrace the sun and wind, his blanket had a huge lion embroidered on it. that was a very power feeling for me to see him up there. i felt his energy. the energy of a lion.......... yes this is the u.s. southern california mojave desert. it was held near where they have coachella now. yes parties like this still do take place. and the old feeling we use to get back in the 90's can still be felt today. our generation of old school ravers still gather under the stars to enjoy life, love and music. you just have to be in the know. for those of us who have held on all these years, life is good.
I remember this party very well... was very special memory for me. I remember looking up over head at the Halle-Bopp comet; on one horizon the sun was just rising in the East and on the opposite direction the moon was very low, close to the horizon. I was with some very good friends at the time - one of them I am still semi in touch with. It was one of the most care free times of my life and I'll never forget it :)
My only recollections of Dune II was one of the biggest windstorms imaginable. I'd say the 10K estimate was accurate, but there were a lot of miserable windswept people scattered all over the place. Dune however, held the previous year near Apple Valley in a U-shaped canyon, was one of my favorite raves of the era. The only really bad part about that rave was the vicious washboard dirt road that you had to take for a couple miles from the main road at about 5mph, and it still shook your car to pieces. The best part about the original Dune, aside from the great music and visuals, was comet Hale-Bopp, which was filling the night sky overhead all night long. Absolutely amazing.
Damn BDDave, you brought back some ol school memories! I still go, 20 years later and have as much fun. This was one of my best nights, other than Brazil in 94'.
Back then it was $20 a person, the promoters weren't solely about making money off of you. They wanted to have a desert rave party to end all desert rave parties! You could also walk where ever you wanted as well, up in to the hills to chill or even back to your car.
i miss the 90's, man. Never made the desert partys back then but the philly scene was awesome. they still throw nice party here in northern az in the desert once a month. its been going on for years and years.
I'm the wearer of the penguin hat @ ~1:39. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face today. Not sure if anyone else remembers the friggin' sand storm that basically took place the entire event. Although we basically got nighttime sandtans and lungs full of dust, it was a neat effect. Asthmatic friends weren't stoked. I have videotape of this event somewhere too. I miss desert parties. peace.
Awww the good old days. Did not attend this party but went to several. Not sure why I didn't go to this one because I raved every weekend at this point in time .
@errantseed not the WHOLE new rave generation, there's still a few of us who get down the right way and uphold P.L.U.R. we've just got cooler lights and more ridiculous music than y'all did ;)
Thats why we old school be jaded becuase we know how we did our shit :D Our generation kick this new geration ass for sho..when i see today rave generation I wanna cry it went to shit yo... Richie rich, are you throwing one ion the desert?
