Crazy to me how many people go so fast on roads they don’t know like the back of your hand
they know those roads like the back of their heads
I just want to be the first to say this it doesn’t matter what road u know or don’t know u should always treat a road u know like one u don’t know riding isn’t about being the fastest out there unless your on a track u may know a road and ride that road on a daily basis there will always be a safety issue or new pothole or something new u don’t notice I have seen many new riders were I’m at go around the same corner daily and they crash cause they didn’t see a new pot hole or something on the road because they were going way to fast unless u have been on that road more then 5 times in 30min and test your limits u will more than likely always crash all of us bikers are guilty of pushing new roads we don’t know because the thrill we get but I have always gone up and down a road multiple times just so I can identify the hazards before I test my limits on that’s particular rd
I know the roads I take better than the back of my hands (I don’t really look at my hands too often)
@@lincolnking9039 My man! Idk why people treat public roads like race tracks. Nothing is predictable here
Came around a one lane, blind hairpin corner. Hit the local sheriff head on. We both knew the road "like the back of your hand." We also knew that in a town with a population of 40 people, the odds were that no one would be coming the other way.
What we BOTH learned that day is that just because the ODDS say it won't happen, doesn't mean it won't happen.
Broke left femur, tibia, tibia, 4 ribs, collarbone, and right wrist. (Speed about 20mph)
I think the white truck offered to call 911 since he witnessed the black car road rage against the biker.
Looks like attempted murder to me
@@Jump-n-smashThat was my thought
Dan seeing Irish roads: "Is that a one way road with 80 km/h?" 😅
17:00 I learned to let it go on the streets decades ago, and yet a few months ago, I realized I was being ruled by my ego with the guy who has decided to hate me and once even physically threaten me as I walked by with the dogs. I was determined to continue walking that route because "He's got no right to make me change my course. This is a public sidewalk!" Then I realized that was only my ego. He's clearly got some mental or physical issues that make him react to me this way, I didn't do anything, so it's not about me, continuing to walk past will only escalate the situation, and asserting my "rights" gains me nothing but my own stress increase which ruined that whole part of my walk every single day.
It was so hard to, but I let it go, and I walk a different direction now.
What really cracks me up is that one has to take hard drugs to have sex with a woman, these days. Back then women were not destroyed by race wax perverted sex nor the hate groups of anti bigots, so a man didn’t need to take drugs to make sex. But it’s wrong anyway
Problem is all of these assholes act this way cause they have lived their entire lives without getting shit for their actions. Theyre either law enforcement, which means they get protected eventhough theyre literally criminals, or theyre rich loser snobs that have alot of money but wish they lived life to the max and be happy like a biker does. ITs all out of jealousy in my book.
Watching this vid a couple hours before picking up my first bike! Gotta keep those eyes open out there 👀
And I got it! I kept repeating to myself to check for open lane patterns all the way back home 😆
@@ignaciobarra6407congrats man. Have fun and keep learning so you can be a better and safer rider. :)
Never stop watching these vids brother. They will save your life
Been riding over 50 years. Sometimes, I get tired of hearing Dan say, "Look through the turn," "side of vehicle," and "open lane."
He says it that often because it LITERALLY happens that often! If you only nail down those three concepts, you will greatly reduce your chances for an accident.
Be really safe first and foremost. Speed comes with time but any riding at any speed is SUPER FUN on a motorcycle. Slowly learn your controls, leaning, trail braking and low speed techniques. Take your time and you'll have a ton of fun learning and being safe.
Been riding my whole life but thanks to you when I catch myself getting tired and complacent on a long ride I start to tell myself “look through the turn “ over and over
Hope we get to see that gold button someday! Appreciate all the livestream classes!
Still blows my mind to this day that people will not at THE VERY LEAST use gloves 11:47
Any kid has wiped out in gravel and got rocks stuck in hands and knees. Seems logical to wear some gear on a motorcycle.
Rode my new CR250 15 miles down the riverbed to a buddy's house when I was a kid, hoping to show off for the three hot sisters that lived next door to him.
On my third pass riding wheelies down the street, my handlebars came off the bike. I knew I couldn't put the front wheel down, or I'd launch myself over the handlebars. Decided to bail off the back, and just ball up and roll. Didn't go as planned.
I landed on my ass and immediately flipped onto my face with my hands in front. Open face helmet, so I lost skin off my nose, but without gloves, I lost most of the flesh out of the palm of each hand. Wouldn't call home because I'd have to explain where I was and why I was riding on the street.
Between my buddy and the girls, we got my hands bandaged, the bars bolted back on, and I rode home back up the riverbed.
Lessons learned that day: ALWAYS wear gloves and NEVER show off!
Was riding my ebike and i was progressively braking. Then on the thrid squeeze. The front slipped on loose gravel. I wasnt going too fast but it knocked me off my bike thats for sure.
In front of a construction girl too. And shes like. Are you okay? Lmao
Recognized the bridge where the guy got rear ended. It's on the Jamestown side of the ferry across the James River in Virginia. It's part of a popular loop ride out of Richmond called the 5 and Dime. Asked my Richmond fb group who it was and got a response within 2 minutes. He had no idea he made the DDTF video 🤣
I went down on wet train tracks about 12 years ago, still have shoulder pain to this day because that was what stopped my slide. My shoulder hit the curb I still can't sleep on that side for more then a short period of time.
One thing that always baffles me, is when a biker, a new biker, usually, instead of getting out of the way, and walking away (or, rather, riding away) unscathed, says: "I had the right of way, and I wasn't going to yield it!" right into a bad crash... That attitude is a lot like drinking and driving: one day there's going to be one hell of a wreck.
Its the same attitude, like some bicicle driver. Yeah you right, but dead. Beeing right , isnt always right.
The automatic Harley is actually a Honda 1100 rebel T DCT…
When I am doing the back roads, I still repeat to myself, look THROUGH The turn. Been riding for 25+ years. Just a habit I have.
The ONE time I did not do that, glanced at the rock wall to my right (left hand turn) and the bike took it's queue, stood up and started heading for the rocks. Pulled my head out of my behind just in time to save the turn and not gather any scenery on the side of the bike.
Only takes a moment of inattention...
Semi trucks need more room especially around a curve.
that was a crazy curve
Definitely. There isn't much semi drivers can really do about it. If they don't take all the space they can, the trailer goes in that ditch, and does damage pulling out, or gets stuck.
the "harley automatic" was actually a rebel 1100 with a batwing fairing
I ride a rebel and thought i was going nuts lmaoo
One of my first rides as a newer rider I had a yellow jacket land on the right side of my chest and thought I was having a heart attack until I looked down. I had to stop quickly with several cars behind me and pull off onto a shoulder full of gravel as to not get hit and took it as a sign to get some gear.
i had on gear and somehow...somehow a wasp ended up INSIDE my helmet! a full face helmet. I was wearing my glasses underneath and this sucker was trying to sting my eyes. I pulled over and took my helmet off! That said, i was screaming my head off over a wasp being in the helemt and the local farmer i stopped in front of thought i was nuts for a minute LOL
The online jungle store has an item “The Extractor” that is small and easy to keep in a back pack. It sucks out the venom and stinger. Immediate relief. Worth the $20
Definitely bailed out on that guardrail clip perfectly !
Man..ty for all the good content..
"I don't know if he meant to push you", Dan, come on man that was clearly deliberate...
5:35 Salmon Falls. Someone has been spray painting a giant CIRCLE on the rock in that corner for 30 years. U look left to take corner, then see something unusual out of the corner of your eye and target fixate. That giant spray painted DOT causes more accidents than it prevents.
i been binging tons of you videos lately. i really dont like the dull safety texts and jargon cause i see it at work ALL day but it works for a reason, i feel like my riding has been improving!
I just got my first bike and super excited, can’t wait to start riding and learning. Love your channel man been watching since first came out. Now I need to join 👍👍
Good luck! I should be joining you for my first time in a week or two!
"I'm going to ride like a douche and get mad when someone else drives like a bigger douche." - Every clickbait instatok rider, doing it for the gram
Love the channel. Lifetime rider of 59yrs and it seems that more of us need to leave the ‘no one will do me wrong or else’ attitude at home when on the bike. If someone is showing me that they are pissed and they are brake checking, swerving, etc, I’m going to pull over or slow down so much they will disappear; or I will safely pass and leave them. Either way, trying to ‘make them pay’ somehow for whatever happened is something that is pointless. But it took me until I was 50 before I finally learned that lesson and I could care less now if someone wants to show me how tough they are on the road.
Education with humor....yeet!!...oh jeezl😅 thanks Dan always a good watch👍
Thanks for what you do Dan!!!
Just these video breakdowns are a public service.
You have made me a more conscious rider. Thank you
Thank youz very much for all that education stuff.
@2:48 I use to be a trucker and i can explain why the truck is like that. You notice how he is in the left lane, but the back of his trailer is in the right lane. They made the turn too sharp during construction so in order to make that turn without having the trailer roll off the road you HAVE to go into the opposing lane so that your tandem tires stay on the road. There is no other way to take the turn. 0 options, and 0 flexibility aside from not being there at all. Biker was going too fast, and truck thankfully stopped.
Coming from a semi truck driver, Ive been in situations like this. Unfortunately the only way around that corner is to get wide and take up both lanes. I will say he didnt have to get that wide but most definitely had to take up atleast half of the upcoming lane.
Watching you videos helped me deal with a racing go kart accident at my local track. Fortunetly the driver was okay
As a trucker myself: there was absolutely no reasons that truck needed to be in that entire oncoming lane.
@8:59 - Isn't that the Rebel 1100T? Old VFR touched up by new Rebel. Mind your DCT.
It's my video and yes you are correct
Lol I remember that ride, that's me on the MT-10 pointing at your gloves you dropped
@@diyhometheater4199haha how you been!?
@Hooligan_Vlogs I've been good! You going to bike night wed?
@@diyhometheater4199 not Wednesday but I'll be at the Tuesday bike night! Do you have instagram?
What they do in Europe (Spain at least) is honk the horn before hitting a blind corner so oncoming traffic knows you're there. Might be an idea for us to adopt and it makes sense.
I`m an older rider and My thought on noob riders is 1 don`t have a headset talking to your buddy. Have a ride plan and wait till you stop to talk. 2 all the riding gear and safety stuff won`t help if you shouldn't be on a bike in the first place. 3 GoPro`s are good but not if you are unsure how to ride, it`s just another thing to worry about and distraction. If you want to record your ride all the time to be safe and incase something happens then get a Dash-cam set up. One switch to turn it on and never need to touch it all day.
This reminds me of my buddy who was doing over the road trucking for awhile. One time when he was in Eastern Tennessee he tried navigating around some freeway traffic, and unwittingly eneded up on Tail of The Dragon.
You got it! Subbed.
around 9:00 it's not a harley, it's a Honda Rebel 1100 DCT
I'm sure I've seen this video before or am I going crazy.
9:03 That’s a Honda Rebel 1100T DCT . They are an automatic 6 speed dual clutch transmission bike. My wife has one. A new rider could potentially get jammed up rolling throttle and brake and the bike will push through the brakes. Happened to my wife on hers when she had a cramp buster on her throttle. Her hand bumped the cramp buster as she adjusted her hand while braked and bumped into a utility trailer in front of her. One of the downfalls of an auto.
Same thing happen to me on my first bike, had a semiautomatic bike and usually they have a lot of torque on the first gear; so you can imagine how that went down, lol 😂
I remember you saying sit in the middle and while out riding today I was shown why we don't in the UK, that's where gravel builds up because of the road surface they put down
I think that's his preferred spot for turns. I don't quite agree with the message, but I see where he's coming from. I try to avoid middle because that's where the oil leaks live.
Awesome Starcraft refrence! You won a subscriber.
hope you get ur gold play button. your videos provide great education so i thank you.
18:37 Judging by the hazard sign on the _left _shoulder, this was probably filmed in Australia or Britain - where we ride/drive on the left.
The rider @14:40 is just cruising right at red line? Why not just shift up a gear
prolly was just in shock.
Starting the vid at 0.5 playback is fricking hilarious!
14:25 I've seen before that people will carry rocks or coins in their cupholder to throw at other cars or bikes in a road rage situation. Happened to me once.
@7:00 the rider looks down. Try it yourself sitting at your screen at home. Look up, sit up, look to the right or left. Now relax and look down. Your head sort of self centers. Same here, head drops, centers to look towards the front tire. Blam, off we go on a hiking trip. So, say to yourself, LOOK UP, now look to the exit. LOOK UP. Not the sky, dummy, up the road. It's why I don't like training with cones. They encourage you to look down. Try using boundary poles with bases and flags, if you have a truck or car to carry them in. You can get lightweight ones real cheap.
Here where I live we have to do mandatory training before doing the ride exam. One part of the circuit we have to accomplish has 8 cones we must zig-zag - it is soooo hard to not look down at the gaps and ending up going off the course!
I think they do on purpose since if you touch any cones or go off the boundaries you fail and have to pay another exam to try it out.
Cheers!!
it has been eight years since the cool kids said yeet lol
That Bee 🐝 was having fun!! 😂
Just missed the sale...first time watching...when will it be on sale again?
15:07 I heard a little bit about those LoTR rumors, but honestly I dunno how i feel about it. Maybe I will give it a try, but nowadays I have low expectations for any movies😢
I'd rather rewatch LoTR a few times per year 🗿
And as always - thank you for a great work! ❤
I’ve started riding with a group. Almost none of them wear helmets or even boots! Newish riders. Makes me nervous. I never ride an inch without a helmet, leather boots, and motorcycle gloves.
I broke my thumb crashing today cuz I rode exhausted. So inmnstead if going slow, I rushed to get the the store half a block away to hydrate. I had 3 hours to get there before it closed... Im ashamed of myself
I love watching your videos my dad has a harley
TNX
Can yall recommend a first bike for me? Using it for commuting, 80 miles round trip, and I’d like to go at least 2 days (160mi) before I have to fill up so I’m not getting gas daily. All highway too with plenty of up and downhill sections so probably something with some decent power to get up those Utah mountains
1:30 wearing “full protective gear” means PULL YOUR PANTS UP!
I've never heard the lug nut rule. I always go by Right of Weight
My only real complaint about DDFM is no link to original vids
He's reviewing compilations. Does he link to those ?
@@TheCdubbleyoo anything helps
25:20 , as someone who has been in a accident with several delivery riders already, I hope the companies can filter those who are actually good riders and have them do the deliveries, even though I shouldn't hate them in general, I do now, sorry for those who are actually good and respect road rules, im pretty sure there are still some of you left.
8:55 No Harley its a honda CMX (rebel) 1100 and the automatic is DCT
How can you be okay with someone doing a wheelie "with full gear", then totally losing control and ending up on a path that people could be walking along? Or even turning back onto oncoming traffic? It's not okay to put the public at risk of life changing injury. People need to stop doing this on public roads.
2:53 well i try to never ride faster than my brakes cluld stop me but sometimes just beeing reminded that the undertakers chokeslam is just around the corner is helpfull
6:21 .. gotta see the turn on a snowboard too 👍
I've felt myself target fixating then immediately switched my view to a point further on the road and it saved me from going off. If it saved me, maybe it will you too?
That automatic bike was a Honda rebel with a fairing that hit the other biker
2:05 The trucker moved out to keep his trailer from off-tracking into the shoulder/hill. He might have moved out a little further than necessary, but still an essential move. Trucks don't react well when you have 34,000 pounds leaned way over because one side of the truck is riding a hill. Better he uses the whole road for a minute than rolls his truck and takes 4-5 hours for wreckers to get the road cleared.
Sure. But if he has to go into oncoming traffic to make a turn he shouldn't be on that road.
@@jocon6656 lmao! so your town is located in an area where all roads in and out, look like tail of the dragon.
is your town off limits to big rigs, because they take up the entire road, to supply the stores in your town.
arkansas has trucks like this on every road, log, chip, shavings trucks. low boy trucks moving equipment from
one job site to another. very few roads here are straight. get over yourself.
@@jocon6656 Lol, that's not how that works.
A lot of small windy roads ban large trucks like this for this exact reason. The big rigs can stick to the larger straight roads and vans will be used on the windy roads. I say it’s not better he uses the whole road when he almost killed somebody.
@@willb3636 here in arkansas, i dont know of any state hwy that bans big rigs because of twisties. yes some small bridges have weight limits, forcing big rigs to find another route. i followed a swift big rig north on 27 out of mt ida, up to i40. he used both ditches in the twisties. i was pulling a 35ft trailer, taking both lanes at times. as a rider, i was watching and waiting for a rider to pop around a hard curve.
I always call it the bigger bumper rule 😂
When I first started riding on the road, I had a wasp go inside of my helmet (MX style with goggles) while riding in traffic at around 60KM/H. I sure was glad that it was a dual sport and I could pop up the curb and stop in a park almost immediately. Though not quite fast enough as it managed to sting me in the hairline twice before I could get my lid off.
This video gave me some horrible flashbacks. Now my heart rate is 135
i have a class A cdl, i work on farm equipment, i also pickup, and deliver that equipment.
farmers tend to live on narrow twisty roads, if i'm in the 5500 ram, pulling a 40ft trailer,
i might need the whole road, i may need to park on said road, to unload, or load equipment.
if i'm in the big rig with the 50ft tilt trailer, i'm going to no all the road, ditch to ditch, when
delivering, or picking up equipment.
i also ride a motorcycle, the public roads are not race tracks to test your skill on.
ride smart, slow down on twisty roads, you never know what is in store for you around that blind curve!
could be a crash, a stopped, or slow moving vehicle, might be a construction zone, or a big rig coming at you.
it might even be another speed racer on a bike, who cant hold his/her lane!
SLOW DOWN!
10:19 I KNEW that was going to happen as soon as he landed hahaha
it blows my mind how many people ride above their skill level while also wearing no gear, or even clothes that cover your skin. I legit saw I post somewhere of some female complaining that she couldn't wear shorts on her R6 because it burned her legs. Maybe ride to ride and not show off your ass.
I dont know where that tram track one is but in the UK your specifically tested on tram tracks in the theory test how to go over them im sure I got 3 questions on them and how to go over them like the angle speed breaking all that so you dont do what this guy did. My friend is local to tracks and his instructor and his test examiner both took him over tram tracks to make sure you can handle them. Also what a bad friend at 5:55 taking your friend on his first ride through bending roads like that and not easy local areas for a while.
3:00 dude will NEVER slip on another tram track again
The 114 you mentioned started at 130
"...get this on film...", you just dated yourself Dan!
Second guy locked his rear up despite slipper clutch so he didnt slow down and also when he lets go and the tire spins again it stands the bike right up. I did something like this but luckily i was turning right and no traffic by luck, also i didnt crash.
20:03 it’s a left turn lane… please help me understand… to where? Into the buildings? I’m not familiar with that location…😅
9:00 maybe its a DCT (automatic) Harley furniture???

Lol hey man, you dropped your gloves 😂
@@diyhometheater4199don't worry I got em 😂
I see a lot of videos with riders not making the curve and in some cases it's not even much of a curve at all. I wonder how this is happening? I know high speed is a factor but often times they're not going fast.
Do you think there is a correlation with helmet to helmet conversations and the riders running off the road for being distracted? If this is the case when threat suddenly arises target fixation takes over and you're done.
In a car, my non-scientific theory is that talking to other people in the car is at least as distracting as cellphones and likely analogous to chemical impairment...thus, I think your idea has weight if comms are being used to conversate rsther than communicate.
I agree.
So that red semi in the back roads, I think he may be following google maps and is in an area he really isn’t supposed to be. I learned to exercise more caution when using google maps because if you’re not paying attention as a trucker you will quickly find yourself going down roads dangerous to your, truck, and everyone around you. It could also be he made a wrong turn and got locked in to taking the route because there’s no spot to safe make a uturn
Anyone like me who found the Cardos a bit expensive, I got a Fodsports FX8 air and it only cost $75AUD, and works great!
