i watched her rebuild at the musem of transport. i saw her when i was a little guy, she was display saw her get a makeover i was a little older saw her run the rails numerous times but not enough then i see her back where she came from she wants to run!!!! if iwin the lottery OH YES 1522 back in action. awsome videos
@joshmeister4449 - Three words, my friend - Head End Power. With out it, the entire train is left without electrical power for lights, heating and air conditioning. That's why Amtrak diesels are seen on every steam powered excursion train... (except for those trains that have their own HEP cars, like UP's trains)
Was this clip from the Saturday run? I chased her both days that weekend and Sunday she was running late heading back,it was almost all the way dark coming into Sullivan that night. It still looks like a lot of light left in this vid which makes me wonder if this was shot on Sat.
You cant even compare reading books to getting out there and feeling and seeing history in action. The fact that you want to cut something like 1522 one of a dwindling number of working steam locomotives is a sin. They are marvels of engineering there is, and like i said before if they went and destroyed 1522 or an other steam loco you cant replace them they are gone for good and a piece of history would be lost forever.
To those who want #1522 gone I'd say watch yourselves. The ghost of one of its classmates, clinchfield #311 formally Frisco #1513, may find you and take you
It rely is to bad that it was put back into storage 1522 is an amazing piece of history. Also you should look back into the early days of diesel locomotives it was not uncommon to find a steamer pushing diesel locos up steep grades. Why should they be melted down? Its important that we preserve the history that built America, is it not? Like other people said the Amtrak loco is only there to provide electrical power to the coaches.
It is spelled Amtrak...... The Amtrak engine is supplying power to the cars for lighting, snack car, outlets etc. If you knew anything about Amtrak or trains in general you would know about how HEP works. If you really want to make a point go to school first. MAYBE you would learn that trains are continuously building our economy and are a necessity.
You can see and interesting image of Frisco 1522 and BN 1506 at the following link: antiques-relics.blogspot.com/2018/04/normal-0-false-false-false-en-us-x-none.html Presumably this was done to commemorate the merger of St Louis-San Francisco Railway and Burlington Northern Railroad, but not even BNSF appears to know anything about this image.
You have no respect for history, you don't understand the thrill of being able to experience it first hand rather than just in a book. Yes America was built on the steel rails of the rail road, they allowed us to move resources more efficiently in order to power industry. They move iron ore from the Great Lakes to the Pennsylvania steel mills, than the steel to the cities to build up the infer structure they allowed for mass moment of people westward to settle and build cities.
I know what it is doing. The steam locomotive is black market commodity when sold of in pieces! The rest cut apart & melted for new manufacturing products.
Trains are not building anything. It is just a transportation tool. I know how HEP works & it is required for the new coaches which no longer use steam heating. Thank you for your concern. I do have a Master's Degree so I don't need any further school. Yes, trains are necessary for a while longer, however, the steam locomotive is not! The machine should be cut apart, melted down & poured into molds for new products! Junk all remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!
Good to know this thing is off the system, never to run again. Then again, it needed an Amtrack genesis unit to push it! No wonder the railroads got rid of them! Now, to get them cut apart & melted down for scrap iron!
Thank you for your concern for my boat! It floats every time I put it into liquid. When all the steam locomotives are gone, there will be other machines to scrap which have good value. Airplanes have plenty of good high value scrap. Old cars, buses, trucks, first generation diesel locomotives. Structural steel is good. Appliances are fair. There will always be something worth the CASH! That is business! Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!
Another reason to junk the steam locomotives. This train needs 2 locomotives when the one Amtrak diesel would be all that is necessary. Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!
On the contrary my friend, I've seen one steam locomotive do the work of multiple diesels by itself and not even strain itself. But Railroads don't see it that way. All they care about is money. I look at steam locomotives the same way Wilbert Awdry did. Every locomotive has personality that we can't understand. I don't know whatever came of #1522's classmates but I can only imagine how powerful they were back in the day on the FRISCO
We want Frisco #1522 back!!!!
Well, at least we got 1630 at the IRM
Maybe the St. Louis Transportation could trade #1522 to the IRM for an operational diesel, or an inoperable steamer for a display.
Erich Diebold
Maybe it could, probably not though.
It would probably cost more than $100,000 to restore #1522.
@@nssteampunk4865 you dont know that. We cant give up on her. Everything about her breathes🚂🚂🚂😠🚂🚂😭🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

I personally like Frisco 1522's whistle
same here, kinda got a thing for deep toned whistles
Whatever floats your boat. What will you do when all the engines are gone though?
@joshmeister4449 Its also for insurance! Railroads dont want steamers blocking the mainline if one where to fail during an excursion!
I saw this beautiful beast go through Dixon, MO. What a fine crafted train, made in the USA by men who cared. Bring back the steamers!
On 2 day farewell excursions.
what the hell is with the p42?

Amtrak Diesel engine is on the back train.
Maybe the ORHF could possibly ask from up to restore the 1522 and it's gonna be 90 years in two years
Wow. I don't think the ORHF has room for that. I work for the ORHF as a volunteer Greeter and Docent, as well as a Car/Party/Building Site Host.
i was on that trip too
1926-2009 long live the frisco
1926-2002

Its not pushing it, learn before you comment.

Of course you know I just told you.

It would have been all over for that foamer at 5:51 had he tripped.
I guess none of the Frisco 4-8-2 locomotives will run again

The locomotive is fine on handling the consist on it's own. The diesel was probably on just to provide electricity to the passenger cars.
