🇳🇱 [HDR] The cutest NS railway line during autumn: Utrecht - Baarn SLT 11/11/2023
- It is autumn in the Netherlands and that is clearly noticeable. The tracks are slippery again today, so driving on time is virtually impossible. Waiting for a delayed intercity at Blauwkapel, sliding through an autumn shower from Bilthoven to Den Dolder, choo-chooing over a carpet of leaves at Soestdijk. How late will we arrive at Baarn? Enjoy watching!

#cabview #cabinerit #cabride #ns #trains #machinist #traindriver #führerstandsmitfahrt #slowtv 5500 overvecht bilthoven den dolder soest zuid soestdijk
I went to school in Baarn along the railway, I use Soestdijk as a station, my parents are buried in Soest along the railway, I live near Soest Zuid, I go shopping in Den Dolder, my mother lay in state in Bilthoven, I went to school in Overvecht along the railway plus I studied in Utrecht using this train. This line is my life.
Same.
I was born in Soest-Zuid, went to school in Baarn only by bicycle, but from 18 yo, studying in Utrecht, I used this railway during winter. In the rest of the year (only without rain) I used my bicycle to go to university in Utrecht.
We had friends near station Soest at the Middelwijkstraat so we sometimes took the train from Soest-Zuid to Soest which covers 1 kilometer without paying for a ticket. Two minutes of anxiety but never caught by the train conductor.
@panlomito Nice story though.
I usually take this line everyday when I'm going to school in Utrecht. (At Utrecht Science Park)
Even though its a bit faster if I would go by bus, I like going by both train and tram as it travels comfortable for me.
Sometimes when I have to go to Amersfoort I always doubt how I would get there as going by public transport to Amersfoort is not the fastest way for me. (I live nearby station Soestdijk so yeah)
And as I'm too lazy to cycle to Amersfooet I mostly take the train towards Baarn and then exchange for the train to Amersfoort or I take the bus/train to Soest-Zuid and then the bus to Amersfoort.
Beautiful little line. I love it. By all means, keep posting rides like this, the rain was nice.
Happy Holidays and all the best for 2024 from Canada.
Thanks, you to!
High video quality, speedometer, background statistics, this is on the same level as Don Coffey's videos in the UK. Top notch. The moving position on the route is a nice touch 👍
I have to agree. This was a nicely done video all around.
I love riding through the small towns or areas to drop off the people you guys have a gorgeous country thank you for sharing your friend Cindy ❤
Thanks Cindy!
More rainy rides please! Thank you.
I second that!
I agree!!!
No! Sunny!😮
Trains have to run in all weathers, so I think that it doesn't matter if the view is in the rain or in fine weather. What matters is showing an interesting driver's eye view train run. Thank you. 🙂
Great video. Wish we had more like in the USA. No problem with the rain. Have a great New Year.
Thanks!
This has always been my favourite part of the Netherlands railway network - it's a very compact line and away from the big cities. Some great videos again this year, Vincent. Keep up the great work. Vrolijk Kerstfeest!
Thanks, merry Christmas!
Ek hou van die trivia soos by Soestdijk. Wil meer daarvan sien.😁
Hello from a British driver!
That was a nice run. :)
I have to be honest, I was waiting for the extremely slippery bits and wondering where they were... I guess you have an expectation of better leaf-fall track quality than we do!
I mostly drive class 170 DMMUs, which are atrocious on damp rail - most of those stations, I would have been struggling to get more than notch 2 (~25%) power from a stand without wheelspin and more than step 1 brake (~30%) would have been guaranteed wheelslide. Unfortunately it's not possible for me to make an equivalent leaf-fall video as on my company it's been made very clear to us that even having our own camera in the cab is a sacking offence. :(
(Any UK cab-view videos posted on UA-cam have been taken with the company's agreement, likely by a separate cameraman who's accompanied by a driver's manager and so on. They're not the driver-using-their-own-equipment that we see from mainland Europe. If they haven't then the driver's either no longer working for the company concerned or is in big trouble if they get caught.)
Happy New Year, have a great 2024 - and stay safe! :)
Hi, thanks! This SNG has a superb anti lock and anti spin system. Our Virm and Icm also are a disaster to accellerate during these conditions.
Happy New Year!
@@CabviewHolland I enjoyed the video. I think that I heard some occasions when the motor increased speed faster than normal for just a moment before settling back to normal acceleration. Were those wheel slip or my over-active imagination? Cheers from Australia.
@@roadie3124 Correct, slip.
Nice train journey 🍒🍒🍒
Bardzo ciekawe techniczne informacje na dole ekranu
Hey, my daily commute! Though I'm not sure how to feel about UA-cam recommending me this video out of all of them. Somehow they know...
By clicking it you make it worse ;-)
Fr though! It keeps somehow getting back in my recommendation, help. (Maybe that's why this video has so many views xD)
Hele fijn dagen toegewenst.
Dankjewel. Jij ook!
sir may i ask which camera and model you are using?
Soest 21:50 178 passengers a day: must be a contender for Least Used Station in the Netherlands
Surprisingly it isnt.
It is "only" the least used NS Station but there are more stations whixh are smaller. However, they are being operated by other companies.
Probably the only reason the station is still open is that it's the only place for trains to cross. During weekdays, there will be train coming from the other direction. And if the trains have to stop and wait for each other anyway, you may as well keep embarking and disembarking passengers.
@AbiGail-ok7fc Yep, exactly.
In the weekends and in the evenings the train drives only 1 per hour so then it's not necessary but om regular weekdays then indeed yes.
(I might as well have tomorrow to wait one hour on Utrecht Central Station due to annoying school finds it funny to have an exam till 8 pm 😐 and then there are barely any buses too.)
Fun fact: Line 70 is the only line which drives through my town on Sundays. 😂 but the good part is that they drive now 2x per hour again since December.
Super nice Video!
Railtrotter ( France) has some way to go to match your quality, clarity of picture and information about the route. Don Coffey in England comes very close and is good on line-side interests worth mentioning as well as the advice to drivers by their trainers on prudent techniques when following the line..Marvellous opportunities for recording when the rail system is so comprehensive with a dense population to make use of it.
I regret the loss of long distance trains which took the ferry passengers land at the Hoek van Holland across Europe as far as Moscow.. Now only a suburban tram line it seems.
beautiful video. the rain and driving conditions are so completely authentic and interesting. Would like more of it!
Just filmed one, Amsterdam to Arnhem, soon to be posted - if you don't mind the window fogging up along the way for a couple of minutes (new to these filming conditions..).
would be cool if you could show the real time ATB-EG speed limit in the video
Hi Vincent. The scenery was beautiful in its autumn colours. Rain is OK, but the wipers need to be cleaned so that we don't get the scraping sound. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Xmas and all best wishes for the New Year.
Thanks Paul. Merry Christmas!
enjoyed the rainy content a lot, it reflects what the Netherlands can be like and also shows the nice autumn day very well.
Those fluctuations in the speed of the driving wheels was really obvious too.
For sure a slippery track!
Mooie video!!
Dankjewel!
trains are so cool man
Beautiful video, gorgeous colors. Thank you for sharing this lovely video.
Thanks :-)
Dankjewel. Fijne kerst!
Bombardier--Siemens SLT
Max. service speed 140 km/uur
Max. design speed 160 km/uur
Prachtige rit!
This specific line is sometimes an absolute life saver when I need to go to Utrecht/Baarn without my parents. Love it so much, to the point I've basically memorised when a train arrives at the SZ station XD
(live really close to the Soest Zuid station myself)
Thank you!!! I think electric trains is the most ecological type of transport and it needs to get more popularized!
Beautiful video. Otoño, la más bella estación.
It’s so cool to see the quality of these videos. When I see it on my phone the brightness and colors makes my phone look like the rest of it is dimmed
I hope you don’t get punished for being delayed by that other train!
Prachtige rit langs mijn ouderlijk huis in Soest. Naast de overgang voorbij station Soest. De Molenstraat. Dank u wel!
Leuk!
Damn, I never knew that the track speed is so low on that line. Most of the time it's 40 or 60. I thought the "Kippelijn" was slow.
Beautiful autumn colours, even if the weather causes wheel slip 😕. What an attractive station Den Dolder is 😊
Good afternoon. Another beautiful ride. Merry Christmas to my favorite driver video creator. Thanls
Thanks! Merry Cristmas to you too!
The state of the railways in the Netherlands always seems do much better than in the uk. Most of our local stations seem to have an air of neglect and decay and the main stations inadequate.. Many are no more than a 'bus shelter' with the original buildings sold off or demolished.
The rain/storm videos would be great to see how engineers deal with less than ideal conditions.
Salutări din România Dragi Prieteni 🙋♂️🙋♂️🇷🇴
Veel extra informatie!😊
Such a beautiful country.
Rain is a natural process we would be extinct without, with modern cameras it's effects on light levels is not so great. More interesting is the track slip which is more of an issue of the time of year. I'm surprised that on electric trains they don't deploy deploy high speed rotating brushes with bristle mixtures of brass/bronze and carbon fibre to clean and abrade the track head for better traction, followed by sanding heads deployed on traction bogies all only in the direction of travel once initial wheel slip has been detected. Surely it is a retrofit that if tested and then promoted to the public would reassure them and might increase an increase in ridership. Here in Britain we deploy individual track cleaning trains at considerable expense. ua-cam.com/video/grDP8dKejEw/v-deo.htmlsi=d8kc-I5GAyWFv9BZ
We have several trains spraying the tracks with Sandite. Nice shot, great machine!
I played it back at double speed, I was afraid the train was going to derail it was going so fast.
A slow, sliplery drive undeed !!
Could clearly hear the motors protesting about the lack of adhesion 😂😂😂
I don't say the rain spoilt this run, just a part of your job !!
I'm not only a fair weather viewer, so bring on the rain please!! 😁
And Merry Christmas to you Vincent, your family and fellow followers 🎄😃
Thanks Alex, Merry Christmas!
Das mijn route! 😊
21:45 that station has to be in the top 20 least used in the Netherlands with that few passengers !
I am a retired streetcar motorman. Rainy days were my favorite days to work. I just found it to be relaxing, not just for me, but for the passengers too.
Just like me then, the ticking of the raindrops remind me of the days as a kid, in a caravan at vaccation.
The rain wasn‘t disturbing so make more if you want to
Beautiful train ride... perfect weather.. :) :) Subscribed..
Welcome :-)
A bit of rain sometime, that's the Netherlands :)
Love the rain!
1:15 - OK, you arrive at the end about 1.5 minutes late on a 25 minute or so ride. Video is 30 minutes. 1.5 minutes for intro and outro still leaves 1.5 minutes for which we must account - with a late arrival as you slide into the station. That estimate does not allow for starting late or anything like that. 1:35 - yes, you started on time.
No problem here with rain. It happens. It's part of your driving experience. Why try to be artificial about it?
{^_-}
thtrivedi enjoyed this vedio 5.1.24
Jalur rel trak yang bagus suasana musim gugur, fokus ke usia stasiun nya sangat tua tahun segitu negara saya belum berdiri
What do those bells that frequently go off in the cab denote? I've been trying to work out if they correspond to signal indications
It’s a watchdog system. When the bell rings the driver has to press a button within a few seconds, if he fails to do it the train will go into emergency brake automation. The bell rings every minute or so.
Fake news. The NS only functions between 10 and 23 celsius. They don't in autumn as their trains don't move when there's leaves on the road.
Haha!
Nice video. I found it perfectly okay with the rain. Brings some nice colours into the video. Cheers from Germany, Roland
De regen verpestte het zeker niet! Gewoon zo doorgaan
I notice that the signals between Bilthoven and Den Dolder have four lights instead of the normal three. What would that be for?
To show double yellow, the old version of yellow with a number. Not in usr anymore. Very well spotted!
They should build Louis Brennan's one-rail line with gyro-trains running on it. This self-balancing beast is big brother of bicycle.
Or just leave the tracks like this and run two of these magnificant trains at the same time!
I really like the scenery, especially the Dutch Mountains as portayed in this particular video. I have visited here a few times and tripped over one when I wasn't looking...
:-)
Actually, in Soest, to the left of the track, there is a Dutch mountain called the "Engh". That's why the line makes such a bend to drive around it. When I was a student and had to cross it twice a day, it really felt like a "mountain"...
If rain should be a problem, we never got any videos from the Netherlands or the other countries with a similar climate.
I love your snippets of 'touristic information'.
Is the Soest station hidden behind a fence of low bushes?. bonito recorrido gracias por el video.
Yes, it has no public function as a station anymore.
If the rain is not so heavy as to hinder visibility, the only negative is the noisy windshield wipers. Very scenic overall. The texts are informative and add a lot.
Love the netherlands.lived in den haag do 2 uears.ws verysad when i had to leave.love the peoplegod bles'em all!!!!!😊
Prachtig baanvak
Still nicer when you bike around in these neighbourhoods and discover hidden gems in abundance of all kinds.
Thank you for the great video. Such a beautiful country. Since I live in a desert I love to see the rain!
Realy enjoyed watching this with all the little bits of extra info. Wonderful! Thank you!
Most enjoyable. Thank you. The Autumn colours were beautiful. 😀
What a beautiful line. I would love to be train driver there :) the entire country is so beautiful its like im on another planet.
A very nice video, beautiful scenery, captions were very helpful and the rain did not spoil the video
I enjoyed the ride. The autumn colors and Dutch countryside were beautiful. The sprinkles along the way kind of added to the atmosphere. One question. I noticed an occasional chime, in the cab, between stations? Is that some sort of notification to the driver? A great video! ❤😂
Chime indicate that the conductor is closing the doors. The ATB ttain protection system also uses chimes to indicate speed limit changes.
@@CabviewHolland- that explains the chime I was wondering about. Thanks for your reply.
