This makes me sick to my stomach. I use Pioneer Woman's dishes daily and give them as gifts also. I have way too much of her dinnerware to ask for refunds but being aware of the potential hazards of using them and also the people I have sent Ree Drummond's dishes to many people as gifts and thisjust aggravates the devil out of me. Yes she is a millionaire and to think her products are so unsafe. Everyone should be told of this and she should pay dearly for using faulty dishes.. OF ALL THINGS DISHES TO BE UNSAFE TO USE!!!!!!! BOO HISS PIONEER WOMAN, Ban her and her products!!!!

Thanks for the info, Ms Vickie. I will think twice before purchasing any of these dishes. It is a shame, they are so pretty. There are kits you can buy to test your dishware for lead levels. I haven't used them myself but wanted to let you and fellow subscribers know. Thanks again.

I have hundreds of Pioneer Woman dishes and every appliance she has out. I also did my research and 99% of all dishes have equally as high lead content as Pioneer Woman. Older dishes/china is often double the amount. Corelle and Pyrex often rate higher lead content as well.

Ms. Vickie, thank you for sharing this information. It's a shame that when someone endorses a product, puts their name on a product, that they don't do their research on who is making it, and whether it can make someone ill. I'd say, shame on the Pioneer Woman..... Enjoy the New Year! Catherine

All of her colorful dishware/kitchenware items are gorgeous and tempting, but I've resisted buying them and I knew immediately what you were about to tell us about them...because I know that those intensely colored glazes usually contain a lot of lead. It's such a shame. :-( As you said, tho', they can be used with caution...all that you've suggested, of course...but also: do not put any acidic foods into them for that will leach the lead, too. :-\ Thank you, Vickie, for the heads-up on a very important issue. Happy New Year!! :-D

Omg, I just threw out all my corelle due to lead concerns and I *almost* bought a set of Pioneer Woman dishes to replace them! SO glad I didn't! However now I'm worried about the Clay Art dishes I did buy as replacements. Lord!! What dishes can you trust now?

  • @primrozie

Thank you Vickie! I've been concerned for years about dishware coming from other countries. Some of my coffee mugs have worn and look to be close to leeching. I hate to get rid of them but I am. The Pioneer Woman items are so popular.
I saw that spaghetti sauce video. Sounds like it would have a deep rich flavor. I haven't canned anything that takes that much time to prepare but think it's smart to make a lot of it!
I put up pinto beans after I did the chicken. Now I have black beans waiting for me. The Farmer's market had ground chuck this time on sale, nothing worth buying 20 pounds of, so I ended up doing some freezer meals. I'm pleased with the glass containers from Amazon. They go in the freezer, microwave, oven and dishwasher. I'm doubling up on servings for our meals and I'm freezing the left overs. Years ago , when the kids were home I did twice a month cooking. I saved money and time. I'm looking to get back to it and invest more into my pantry.

I love pressure canning! There are so many ways to make shelf stable meals, and meals your family will love. I recently made some puréed soups for a veteran friend having surgery on his jaw. I made something that he was able to eat, but he also greatly enjoyed. He was so appreciative to have something that tasted good!

Lordy mercy. I think just about everything has something that’s bad for us in it. I’ll be 60 in a few years and I can only imagine all the chemicals and heavy metals I’ve been exposed to in my life. I’m sure it’s a large part of the reason so many develop cancer these days. If we really knew what was in all of the things around our homes we’d have to throw away 80% of the stuff. It’s nuts.

    • @VickiesCountryHome

I believe you are right. I used to think (many years ago) that the government was looking out for us. They told us they were, right? Well, now I know better. It is a constant learning experience. I spend a lot of time reading articles to educate myself on dangers I shouldn’t have to think about! And yes, I believe these unknown risks have a lot to do with the prevalence of cancer.

    • @whatscookinnashville
      @whatscookinnashville 4 роки тому

Vickie's Country Home my Mom, her Mother and one of my Moms sister’s all three had cancer. My Mom survived but both my Grandmother and my Mom’s sister and another aunt passed away from their cancers. You’re right we shouldn’t have to worry about if something is safe for us that’s produced for public consumption but unfortunately I think it’s all about the money to these companies and the people in the government who are supposed to look out for our safety.

Vicki, we all can worry ourselves to death about something becoming a potentially dangerous thing in our life........car? furnace ? after this morning's church shooting in Texas - possible fellow church member? And so on.
If you think this is a serious issue for you; try to return them to the big box store. Most large companies will take products back that pose a potential health risk. Otherwise just throw them away. From the sound of things you'd beg happier without the dishes you paid for dispute the possible loss of money.
After mentioning they came from a big box store, I doubt we're talking a significant amount of money, like a department store purchase.

Thanks for sharing. Our dishware is a mismatch of different ones we were given. Our first set was on my brother's ex picked but his current wife didn't like so it was given to us. All of the bowls except for one broke. Dad cleaned out his outdoor storage building to turn into in the workshop awhile back. He was getting rid of all of the items in it and let us have first pick. We got a few bowls and plates. My favorite ones were made in Japan but my most favorite is a retired design. I trust Debra Lynn Dadd's toxin free list of safe products. She has multiple chemical sensitivities and I have some myself so I trust her recommendations. I also love the Still Made in the USA list. Just have to read those descriptions. Lee also bought some cheap silverware since a lot of ours went missing. Household items are lower on the priority list as we're planning on moving to our own property so I'm waiting until then to get those type of items since it will just be more things to pack and move. No matter how careful I am something will always break.

Wow, good words of warning. I have mostly plain white dishware and bakeware for daily use going on 40 years. It is combinations of Corning, Laughlin, and assorted bone china. We have salads on clear glass plates. You got me thinking I should check for lead on all of the dishes. Our pastel Fiestaware set, McCoy collection, and Roseville pieces are display items, and mainly just seasonal use. I better check those, also.

Like another subscriber of yours said, Pioneer Woman is a millionaire from her kitchenware,
you'd think she'd take more pride where it's made, not just worry about the money made!! It's exactly the same here down under, we don't even make our own souvenirs!!? ...yep china again! how embarrassing!!

We have several and the first thing I thought about was lead but just assumed that Pioneer Woman was a name I could trust even after using the bowl for years and having chips. I should have known better. I know that you can buy lots of things made in other countries that have lead in the finish. Ceramics not fired under extreme heat can leach out lead when used with acidic foods and I never use them for hot dishes. I know that any shiny paper that is used to keep grease from going through is widely used in fast food and has very dangerous chemicals that leak out with heat - like paper plates, french fries, etc. We have grown up thinking that the government will keep us safe but we are our own best safety patrol!

Mary w, no likes on your statement is heartbreaking! & very scary that people are so closed minded, even with so very much coming to light.
It is not only the products from countries, other than the USA, & many of these companies use their manufacturing plants in countries, like China in order to get around a bit "stricter"(? think wide spread bribery) oversight, like cosmetic companies, who "say" they don't horribly torture animals! Look into popular, brands around for many, many years . . . . .
Yes, I do know because I research beyond articles. First trying to authenticate them & then, also, trying to disprove them. Both methods are important . . . . . & time consuming.
Please, listen to those of us who either do this research or are credible sources, who pass it along.
