I would like to point out that putting out a video every day is Huge! This had to be very labor intensive and we should all give Ms. Bernadette props for doing a fantastic job of planning and executing this lesson plan! (The more active channels typically put out two a week for example). Thank you once again, Ms. Bernadette for doing this.
I am so proud to see you less shy to sing. Tonight you made me fall in love with your soft voice Ms.B. Keep on singing for us. You are improving every time you do so. 🌹
Wanted to give you an update on my progress. A few months ago, I decided that I wanted to learn ukulele as a new hobby. But, I wanted to take on a bigger project and learn about the instrument and not just learn to play it. I am a bit of a tinkerer, so I went the DIY route (making some modifications and changes to improve the quality of the components in the kit). I built my ukulele without my wife knowing (that took some effort and extra time), resulting in what I have been told by a person who taught a ukulele class at our library is the equivalent of a mid level instrument. I have been practicing when she was not home, all in an effort to surprise her when I was ready. Yesterday, I was so caught up in this lesson that I forgot to put it away before she got home. I explained all and played Piano Man for her which I had just learned that day. She was very impressed with all that I had learned so far from you. She asked about the ukulele and when I told her I had built it she said "of course you did." Thank you! I am going to finish this challenge and keep going.
So sad that this is coming to an end. It passed by so quickly. It's been such a gas! Everyone here is so friendly. Kudos to all of you and a MEGA kudos to you, Bernadette for taking the time and trouble in leading down the magical, trippy fun journey to Ukeland 🎶🎶🎶
Wowwww!!! Thank you so much, I am really humbled by your sweet comment. This challenge went better than I ever imagined it would. Time did pass by so quickly and I'm really looking forward to more fun challenges in the future. Thank you for always commenting your honest thoughts and opinions and for sharing your journey with all of us. Can't wait to see where we will be in a year!
@@BernadetteTeachesMusic I can't wait for more fun challenges either. But have a rest for now. You've more than earned it. We'll still be here uking away.
Piano man has been one of my favorite songs since I was little ♥ The fingerstyle is quite hard because I switch to thumb, index and middle finger without thinking... Ahhh! I have some homework to do... Great video! ♥
Yes, the rare Rock Waltz! Way to go everyone! Thank you for another excellent lesson, expanding our horizon. Adding the finger style version for variety was a nice touch. (And the number of subscribers is still growing, congrats). See you tomorrow for the Grand Finale!

Great song Ms.B. Hear the song, learn the song, FEEL the song! This is in~feel of three~, sounds cool when you said that. Enjoying the finger picking technique as well. Plus easy to remember the 1-2-3 strumming when you taught the "close and short" technique, makes visual sense when I saw that. Music from this time is so poetic and lyrical. James Taylor's first album, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon. We need more days in this month long challenge. Hope you're having a fabulous Friday. Looking forward to what will appear tommorow. 😀
Than you so much. This had been more than just an ukulele lesson for me. It has been an anchor. Eleven months ago I was told I might have breast cancer. It processed into a year long battle of negotiations for how much needed to be removed. Ended up with (negotiable 2 or 3) stage 2 Invasive breast cancer. As the Founder, lead instructor, performer, writer and choreography of the pieces we perform in Taiko I was very resistant to heavy handed surgery but every test discovered more cancer. It was so prolific that they were worried about getting clean margins to do any reconstruction. I ended up doing a complete bilateral masectomy. I am now three surgeries later, completed my recon, finger months no drumming, but so blissfully Happy because of a gift, an ukulele, and finding a source, You! I feel whole and motivated and optimistic!! Please know when I say Thank You, I really mean thank you for Life. Thank you for Purpose. Thank you for a means to Keep The Beat!! 🎶. I am in my last recovery time and looking for a way to blend the two. Lady B, you are an 👼. Thank you!

Mrs. B I love your videos, you are so helpful. I just watched your video on how to change ukuele strings - so funny 😂 I don't know how to embed the link but for all you that love Bernadette please search for it on you tube.
When I was first learning how to keep rythm and understand beats/times, and first learned this one it clicked immediately for me as "OH that's a waltz!" Thereafter this was easy for me. If you have ever taken dance lessons music time is going to be familiar, and if you just remind yourself that ONE-two-three, ONE-two-three is waltzing with your uke, it might make it easier. :)
What a great challenge!!! 3/4 time and some quick chord changes. A great lesson that made this challenge fun and possible to learn in a few practice sessions.
Interesting rhythm. The chord changes are very fast. Practice them slowly and get those changes down. It should make slower chord changes even easier. Have a nice weekend. You Big Brother signing out :)
Sigh. I sooooo need the chord chart shown on the video!! LOL! It is so much more helpful than having to flip over to another tab to remind myself how to play a certain chord! Gah!
Hi Bernadette, I play the Baritone. Would you consider revising the workbook for the Baritone? I have been trying to follow along but at times it has been quite difficult. I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY appreciate it. Also, I printed out the lessons and for some reason the header is about 2" therefore the bottom is cut off. I'm not able to fix this, not sure if anyone else is having this issue. I've been handwriting the portion that is cut off. I just want you to know that I have really enjoyed this challenge and thank you so much for creating it. Cheers to you! Paulette
I love your videos, you are an amazing teacher!!! Thank you so much for creating this community of rookie musicians that still want to learn to play uke!!! I have a question and maybe one of you guys can help me out, I am struggling with switching cords any tips on that?
I know it's been a year now but for anyone who might need help: only way is practice practice practice. For me, it works to get the uke and play the parts in which i struggle in a loop, again and again while I watch tv or do any other thing. If I struggle in a certain chord change, for example c to g, I play it in a loop, even without strumming, but I do the change a thousand times until I can make it with my eyes closed. Hope it helps, good luck! :)
The chord chart in the PDF for D7 in this lesson (29) is not the same as the chord chart for D7 in lesson 27. When I look up how to play D7, it seems like the chord shown in lesson 27 is the correct one. But Bernadette is clearly playing the chord illustrated in this lesson. So what's going on? Is the D7 in this lesson a simplified version? Am I missing something?
Another song that you can practice this beat: look up Rainbow Connection (yes the Muppet song) it is pretty and not too difficult at this point in our journey and gives you another opportunity to use 3/3 time. Aloha friends!
After finishing yesterday the challenge, I'm again here because I really want to learn one of my favorite songs of all times! :) But I have a doubt, for the intro, do we play only once C G F C F C D7 G? Do we play it twice or do we play once C G F C F C D7 G and then C G F C F G C G? I hope someone sees this question and has an answer :) ¡Gracias!
Hey! I’m sorry to confuse you. I will explain this better next time. You can make all of the chords normally if you’d like to. I do this just to keep my chording hand’s muscle memory. But you are correct. You won’t play on String G.
Hi Denise, hope you already figured it out. Otherwise, please only use the bottom three strings, so string 1 (ring), 2 (middle) and 3 (index). Yes! This would work :) good question!!!
What is the next step as far as lessons? Do you have another video course for that?
