  • ( tfl-studios.com/ ) Check out our new spot to find ALL our content, from news to videos and our podcasts! The new car and truck market is painful enough with MSRPs rising across the board, but then you have the dealer "market adjustment" to deal with - in some dealers' cases making that expensive vehicle even more unaffordable. We're asking for your help to spotlight the practice, and give some tips on how you might be able to avoid it!

      @@TonyTone84 I hear what you're saying, however, I'm assuming Ontario isn't selling at a loss, since the MSRP has dealer costs factored into it. Ontario is just the not participating in the pandemic price gouging (which I consider raising sales prices disproportionate to any change in their cost) that the other dealers are, just because they can. When / if things ever return to normal, and other dealers stop gouging, Ontario will as always have to remain competitive on price to stay in business. Where I see 'loyalty' factoring in at that point is, if the other dealers are offering a similar deal on a vehicle, car buyers would keep their behavior during the pandemic in mind when they decide which dealer to buy from, as it tells the buyers a lot about what kind of people they are doing business with.

    Excellent topic, guys. Lack of affordability has been a growing issue in the auto market. I don't understand how so many people agree to buy vehicles on a 72, 84 or 96 month loan.
    With regards to the argument that markups are "fair" because this is a free market: dealers always say they want to establish a "relationship" with their customers. But a relationship requires trust; charging a markup moves dealers away from establishing trust.
    I can understand that dealers want to show a markup as a means to hold onto their inventory to avoid having an empty lot. However, if they do show a markup, they ought to make it VERY CLEAR to customers that they can factory order them a vehicle for MSRP, or even a discount, if they are willing willing to wait 6-8 weeks.

      Did you say the same thing a couple of years ago when dealers routinely sold well under MSRP?
      The franchise dealer model is not broken. It works as intended. The MSRP is a suggested price. Dealers are legally allowed to sell at whatever price someone is willing to pay.
      That being fact, while I have long thought the franchise dealer model was good as I have always been able to negotiate a price much under MSRP, the glut of market adjustments, fake fees, and mandated add-ons, as well as the various scams in the F&I office, I now agree laws need to be enacted to allow direct purchasing from manufacturers.

    • @warmonger2500
      @warmonger2500 2 роки тому

      @@scottr2706 The dealer model is only "broken" because it is a "forced" middleman. The dealership laws prevent any other way of purchasing a car and that's what is broken. In that you clearly agree that it should be possible to take out the middleman and allow for direct purchase. If the dealership model isn't "broken" and they provide value they should be able to compete as long as the manufacturer sells their car to consumers at MSRP.

    • @scottr2706
      @scottr2706 2 роки тому +1

      @@warmonger2500 I have come to the realization the franchise model of selling new vehicle is not working due, mostly, to the greed of car dealers. The value of the instant buck over long term sales. Sadly, our elected officials continue to work, not for the people, for those who pad their accounts, the dealer lobby.
      As for providing value, I do not believe a car dealer adds any value to the buying process. They just ad a layer of cost which might largely be eliminated if direct sales were permitted. I imagine, based on current events, the majority of car buyers would like to experience direct sales, anything to eliminate the smarmy dealer sales process.

    MSRP is important since its effectily telling you how much the vehicle costs in labor/parts and RND etc. Dealers would be able to charge well over MSRP and the consumer would never know that they could be getting scammed since dealers just like in the image you showed of the Maverik can charge much more for what is supposed to be an affordable truck that uses cheaper materials vs other trucks like the Ranger, Rigline etc. While I am all for a free market there also needs to be a transparent market and MSRP solves that since you know what the manufacture thinks is a good price for the vehicle based on the above mentioned labor/parts/ and RND. I look forward to the day when its just go to the manufactures site and place an order over going to a dealership have to negotiate and fight with them over everypice of paper. If I can see the MSRP and I agree with the price I will buy it, if I don't like the price I can look elsewhere and yes we should be highlighting dealers that are not marking up vehicles and are selling them at MSRP or less and force the other dealerships to correct their behavior.
