    Those cubs are sooo cute! That marsh area too cool! If you put sunflowers in your hand and extend your arm out and stand quietly the chickadees and nuthatches will land in your hand ! 😊

    Everything’s coming to life! Love your videos, man, love those bears but Momma bear can be protectively dangerous, and hungry this time of year! Awesome again!💯

    I always worry about the dogs around bears, or on those walks with them in areas where they are, especially this time of year when the cubs are around

      Yes, we are as well. Interestingly usually more worried about the coyotes but a mama bear and cubs is concerning as well.

    Here in the north Georgia mountains we also have bears. I came face to face with one, we both froze and stared at each other for ten seconds or so and the bear turned and slowly walked away. This was in my back yard, he was beautiful.

      Hey Lucy. Last summer I had about 20 bear encounters on trails last summer here in Tahoe. All very good interactions. I made some noise they moved off to the side or ran away and we both went about our ways! We have spent many summers hiking and backpacking in Glacier so we are familiar but not experts with how to try and read black and grizzly bear behavior and how then to act yourself.

    Hi, I had a questions about all the paved Bike trails around Tahoe City area & go to The Palisades "Squaw Valley", are they still covered in snow? I come up about six timed a year & stay in Tahoe City just to ride all the great biking trails. Have you driven passed any of them by chance?

    How is Lake Tahoe(The Lake itself) doing as far as filling up? Projected to be 100% full this summer?

    • @tahoemountainlife
      @tahoemountainlife  Рік тому +1

      Hey David! It is definitely filling up! I am not sure the exact % at this point in time. We are hopefully going to do some paddleboarding this weekend and that might help us understand a little more.

    46 years in Tahoe starting in June 1972, missed the winter of 1969, when they were tunneling 2nd story to second story in that abomination and ecological disaster called "Tahoe Keys" Went through the winters of 82-83 when we lived on Arrowhead in Meyers, shoveled snow every day in January 93, no snow plows for a week and power out for 5 days had to have 2 sets of chains on the 4x4 to get to work and back! 3 ft of snow on the roof = get your butt up and shovel it off, twice! Had a 16 degree below temp one night, no wind chill. Did the winter of 92-93 in Town living across from Ledbetter/Moshier meadow on Winnemucca Ave, 12 feet in town (24 ft or more out in the county) and more coming, had the roof shoveled that year twice, cost was about $600 each time not the gouging people saw this year. I Nordic skied those meadows and marshes back in the days of having to wax your skis. I'm sure you'll be filming the Kokanee Run in October. Nice to see Mt Tallac and Maggies Peaks! I used to cross up to Fallen Leaf Lake from HWY 89 in whiteout blizzards just for the adventure, sit behind a tree on the lake shore (you couldn't see 100 yds across the lake) have a snack and ski back to Hwy 89, that was when you could still park at Fallen Leaf Lake Road, and HWY 89 and nobody bothered your vehicle.
    I strongly suggest you get copies of "Saga of Lake Tahoe, Volumes 1&2" there is SO much history there the reviled "Flatlanders" don't even know or care about! Contact me if you want some of the real stories as I knew many of those interviewed for the history books, including Bill Bliss Jr. Did you Know the first telephone line in Nevada went from the Mill and Inn at Glenbrook over the hill to the Bliss Mansion across from the Governors Mansion in Carson City. Did you know Fountain Place has paranormal activity? Did you know the Forest Service in the 1970's was wanting to bulldoze the buildings that eventually became the Tallac Historic site?
    Cubs are cute until you meet Momma face to face, ask me how I know, those are her fresh crop having kicked her 2 year olds out. We had a pack of coyotes we watched all year long in the meadow, bears, squirrel, raccoons etc and of course "Henry" the Garter snake that would show up from across the meadow at times., The rabbits didn't migrate up from Carson Valley until after 2000. One morning I went to let my dog out in the back yard and there was spoor little Henry he got caught out in the cold and couldn't move, so I picked him up all still in S curves and placed him in the sunshine next to the neighbors house so he could warm up and be on his way.

      Hey ABQRT. Thanks for your comment, your experience and knowledge of the area is amazing and extensive. We have been to the historical society museum and watched part of each saga video but we should get both. I did not know about fountain place. In the summer I bike up that fire road at least once a week. Interesting! I would love to catch up some time to hear your stories and experiences! Send me an email at tahoemountainlife@gmail.com and we can connect. Kind regards, Dan

      @@tahoemountainlife Hi Dan, Well you survived the winter to enjoy the rest of the year as well all did. It was always, "survive the winter to enjoy the rest of the year"! UHAUL used to do a great business at the end of each season! I knew people raised in Tahoe in the 1950's, plus the "Old Tahoe" names, Harvey Gross, Ledbetters, Springmeyer, Settlemyer, Johnson, Dunlap, Bill Bliss Jr, have his autograph on a large line drawing of the Steamer Tahoe put out by the historical Society back in the 1980's after the Tahoe was located and raw video was shown at a meeting a the Bill spoke to us. I was invited numerous times to thier summer home at Glenbrook or the winter home in Carson City. Have you seen the Book about the Bliss Family in Tahoe? Judge Chappell (Zepher Cove) told me he lived in South Tahoe (before the villages incorporated) area when there were less than 10 year round residents. In 1972 there was still a shortline railroad operating from Hwy 50 in the meadow before you get to Denny's and up towards Meyers, part of the old logging RR, the tracks crossing the road into the Treatment Plant were still in the road and the Crossing posts still inplace back in the mid 1990's. It was removed at the end of the summer of 72.
      We usd to board our horses at the Dunlap Ranch at the end of Washington St. The we would ride up Tahoe Keys Blvd, to Venice, then to 15th st, follow a dirt trail, then Cross HWY 89 at the City limits, ride behind Camp Rich up over the ridge to Fallen Leaf Lake and back. The same trail the Dunlap family used when they had the Tamarak Dairy in operation during the summer months to pasture their cows. The last few years we lived there my Heeler and I walked through the Tallac Historic site daily regardless fo weather, knew all the trails from Taylor Creek to the "Estates".
      Factoid: In the 1970's the Forest Service was going to bulldoze all those buildings until a couple of weekends they let the public in to get opinions on what to do. EVERYONE thankfully said SAVE the properties and restore, glad they did listened for once!
      Been fighting an email hack and just ran across these comments, sorry for the late reply. Will get you my email when i know it's safe again.

      @@cherlgolja5402 Find Saga of Lake Tahoe Volumes 1&2, I heard more than one of the stories first hand, and Learn about the history of the Lake! There is a book about the Bliss Family. It describes the Glen Brook Inn. It was a place where a number of celeberaties would hang out/hide out before acceasibility was so much easier. Has a photo of my friend Bill Bliss bussing tables at the old Glenbrook Inn with Clark Gable! Sadly the Inn burned down in the 1970's or 80's. I knew Stan Pomin, Grandson of Capt Joe Pomin of the SS Tahoe, as well as connections to a number of old Tahoe Families. They still did the cattle drives up Kingsbury Grade through Stateline to get up to High Meadows in the 1970's. Kingbury grade was little more improved from the dirt road you can still see part of. Twists , turns barely 2 cars wide. A number of the old Tahoe Families and Carson Valley Familes had intermarried. Jim Dunlap told of hauling lumber by team and wagon from the mills in Tahoe over Kingsbury to the Valley and hauling hay back up the hill for his Dads Tamarack Dairy ( John Dunlap had be the Engineer on the glenbrook for DL Bliss railroad that ran from Bijou Landing up to Meyers Hauling logs down to the Lake for log booms to Glenbrook mill) at the end of Washington St, off Michael Drive. It was and all day trip, putting the rear wagon wheels on skid shoes and basically sliding to the bottom of the grade trying to keep from over running the team of horses.
