I have an R740 (second gen/Cascade Lake) in my home lab. I understand Intel Optane memory is pretty cheap these days. My server has 6 x 64GB DIMMs installed. How can I add Optane memory to bring the server to 512GB or more? Do I have to add another 6 x 64GB DIMMs first? Do you carry the correct type of Optane memory?
Intel optane you can install 1 per memory channel and then use 1 LRDIMM in other slot on channel. Put in first DIMM slot within the channel. And that's about it. Pretty simple overall.
Probably should have more about. I talk about it more in depth in one of our R640 memory videos if interested... and would be exact same for R740 as R640. Good luck.
Any time. Here to help. Some of the main Intel Optane points... 1 per memory channel. Which means you can install 12 + 12 LRDIMMs. 512GB Intel Optane plus 128GB LRDIMMs (12 of each) would be the the max (spitting from memory here and need to go back and look at our teams evaluation but pretty certain that was the absolute max). Also important to note Intel optane needs to go in first DIMM slot of each memory channel. And again important to note 1 per channel. Smash smash smashishditty smash that subscribe. Lol.
