Love this no spin, no hype format. Articulate, simple delivery. I have subscribed.
Appreciate you!
Yes and I second that, this fast becoming one of my new favourite UA-cam channels, well done @Disruption Theory
Means a lot 🙏
Don't we wish more channels had such delivery
Agree. No fluff. Clear. Articulate. On point
Took a chance watching this from the recommendations, am not disappointed.
:)
I too am here on a recomendation. Glad I clicked... and subbed.
I don't see why it's significant or why it took so long
Thank you for not asking for a like, comment, and sub. Here is a comment for the UA-cam algos
This is mind-bogglingly huge.

I 100% agree, and have also just subscribed. Thank you for the lack of hype.
Appreciate you!
So exciting to see how much sooner than predicted these breakthroughs are happening
This was the ‘un-achievable’ holy
grail of molecular nanotechnology
back in 1993, according to K. Eric
Drexler, Marvin Minsky et al ...
... or at least it was when we
all shared a Chinese meal at MIT )
I have Drexler’s Engines of Creation but yet to read it to be honest... did you say you actually met him along with Minsky?!
@@DisruptionTheory back in ‘93 I threw myself into nanotech after ‘engines’, I was well-connected in Boston, and networked with Drexler and his wife - dominated the alt-nanotech newsgroups... those were the days... then, by 1996/7 I found the rabbit hole ... SCI-Fi-level of Air Force / DARPA compartmentalizations and an eye-to-eye encounter w/ an Air Force / SSP / SDI spook (think “men in black” in an Air Force uniform)... I realized I hit the black-budget firewall... and wasn’t invited.

This stuff is way over my head but I’m happy for people who do understand it!
Sometimes I feel as if I was born early...
I dont feel that way anymore now
I genuinely thought something like this wasn't going to be feasible until quantum computation was more mainstream. The fact that they can run these algorithms now on current tech just makes me salivate for what's coming, and soon... for real, people aren't ready for what's coming and how much things with change, even in the next 5 years. What a time to be alive
Same actually, I always assumed there’s a certain limit on the current hardware paradigm, no matter how much raw computational power we throw at it. I can only imagine what Quantum + AI will usher into existence..
@@DisruptionTheory well, one thing I've noticed over maybe the last couple years is way fewer people jumping on the "lol Kurzweil is a dumbass" train
Lol true true. He’s either gonna go down in history as a prophet or a nut
I quit cell biology years ago when I realized AI could do it more easily. Guess what, hehe.
Yes, it is hard to overstate this amazing advancement.
Terraforming is the ultimate goal.
Glad this was recommended- this news is exciting!
I’m gonna binge on your channel now, thanks!
😊
Hope you enjoy!
Clear, concise report on this monumental accomplishment. Amazing developments are on the horizon and it's a pleasure to be alive at this time to see things like this unfold.
Great video! Love the laid-back style. Very clearly explained.
Thanks Tim 🙏
BOINC also has these projects for folding proteins: Rosetta and GPU Grid. AI and distributed computing are really the technologies that will bring the next steps in science. That's why we (Cnergy) as a young start-up are building databoilers, that will bring distributed computing and AI to your home in an environmentally and cheap way.
Fantastic delivery! Subscribed.
Appreciate it! welcome onboard
Great coverage man, subbed. Thanks.

Glad I stumbled across your channel. You hit on exactly what I was hinting at in my Covid vaccine video. The future will come at us exponentially due to the advent of AI. It will be hard for our psyche to wrap our minds around it now and in the future. Great video. Liked and subscribed!

On the scale of the invention of penicillin, of the first heart transplant, etc. A defining moment in the history of Medicine!
We're at the cusp of the golden age, but the true golden age still lies ahead. March onwards towards the shining future.
most of us in our thirties might see this gold age!
I'm a firm believer that we will. And I'm not the most optimistic person
Beautifully said
Boilers and toilets. Toilets and Boilers. T'aint a boiler nor a toilet.
That depends very critically upon *who gets it.* Shall we put this AI at the disposal of Vladimir Putin? Of Donald Trump? Martin Shkreli? Xi Jinping? Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov?
Cool news! Thanks for popping into my suggestions. Subscribed. Be interested to hear more specifics on how this helps.
Thanks for the sub 🙏
First I need to address how much I appreciate discovering a UA-cam Channel where you don't need an obnoxious 30second animated intro, and spend 20 minutes struggling to summarize your thoughts while going off on irrelevant tangents. You are very well spoken, articulate, informative and easy to follow, all summarized in a 5 minute video! You deserve way more Subs!
Really appreciate it!
Good stuff, more please. Thank you.
Thanks, turn on the bell notification to know when new videos drop !
Nice channel.
You got a new sub keep up the good work, mate.
Thank you 🙏
Very informative. Thanks a lot!

A protein that consumes plastic and creates O2
Consumes greenhouse gases. You would not want tye growth of oxygen in the atmosphere. At one point the air would have become combustible.
Great commentary thx

Well done on the video.

This is a tremendous accomplishment of historic proportions. The recent progress in biological and materials sciences is astonishing. It will make it possible for tremendous positive changes, solving urgent problems for humanity, the health and sustainability of our planet and all her life forms.
To be honest, with enough computing power, this was just a matter of time and refinement.
Thanks gamers for pouring billions into the gpu industry and making processing power dirt cheap!
Agree but it’s a bit unfair to frame it as pure computing problem. Algorithms play an enormous role
The game of Go and protein folding are not readily solved by brute force. You do need massive compute power to run most advanced Ai models BUT it is not enough. The algorithms and the feedback learning loops are the real breakthroughs and the developers shod be recognised for their insights to make it possible
Processing power is now defined by # of qubits.
Like Dwave Advantage...5000Qubits
So far the most powerful Quantum computer
You're welcome
this is the most exciting and promising news ive heard in decades! AMAZING.
I never expected it to be solved so soon. I've known about the protein folding problem for over a decade now and it has always interested me. When they developed CRISPR-Cas9 I was super excited because of what it is capable of, but now that they've solved protein folding as well... man, I can't wait to see what they do with it. _So_ many possibilities. Like telomeres that don't degrade 😃
Same man, it’s exciting
Excellent content
Thank u!
More AI stuff dude! I'm a sucker for those! Great video.

Gaming the algorithm is a slippery slope... of the trend catches on, it will have significant unintended consequences that would be for the better to avoid.
Your camera position is slightly awkward but the content was gold 🥇
Great video! I already shared Deepmind's own video on the last achievements of Alphafold, but I'm sharing this one too. Yeah, the rate of discoveries is accelerating. Maybe we're already into the technological singularity...
The singularity is way far off in the distant future, i think
Appreciate it! Where are you sharing btw?

I downloaded the fold at home program as well. I figured it was going to be our trump card for at least the next decade. AI surpasses all expectations once again.
@Mister Meeseeks I’m no AI but I see tank man and 1989 so probably.
Great report! I wonder if AI will also make advances in protein-substrate binding behavior,
maybe predicting protein motifs with a high (the highest possible?) affinity for a particular substrate (e.g., DNA sequence) and,
conversely, what substrates (e.g., a small, inhibiting molecule) would have high affinity for particular amino-acid sequences.
Brilliant!
Truly awesome.
AI is humanitys last invention
Awesome!
Fascinating
AI is a force multiplier for virtually every field it touches. Not only does machine intelligence move ahead to the next level, but it carries other research along with it. In this case: AI plus biology, medicine etc.
Well put!
Sweet!!!!
Science on!!!
The law of accelerating returns at work, beating all analyst predictions. Great work DeepMind!!
yup yup
deep mind will solve the old age issue as well and we will be bk to living 10,000 years again :)
Again?
Excellent
Geometric deep learning is booming within AI, writing my thesis on it right now
Can you elaborate??
Honestly. Having tried to build a novel protein myself. This is a game changer. I hope they open source it for public use. People in the DIY bio community will be thrilled.
Can you share more info about the process?
the future looks more scary than ever, imagine somehow making a drug or some shit out of this technology and making a human suffer in a special chamber where they are essentially immortal, everyone can die now it is inevitable, but imagine not being able to die in a prison of endless suffering, there is a good reason why this universe has a great filter installed
I feel like we'll make type I civilization by centuries end. Thanks to the inevitable AI.
Hoping you’re right
@@gmhero24 If AI doesn't turn out to be the (or a) great filter.
Well that was interesting. I as no idea of the significance of protein folding until reading about CWD recently and it looks like I need to delve deeper.
And check out some more of your videos...
Appreciate it!
in 20 years humans will be out of this world, maybe inmortality? this is insane
AI will be a blessing for resolving complex problems.
The ' experts ' predicted we were " 10 years before electric cars are viable " while Tesla was rolling its' first 100 cars out of a factory. Don't trust experts to estimste when things happen without thinking of original series Star Trek and Scottie saying " it'll take hours to repair " while they were in combat.
So even if experts predict when a technology will arrive, they can’t predict market forces or historic events that may delay it. Electric cars were technically viable 30 years ago but it took the market until recently to bring him into existence
I was trying to explain this last week. Yes, protien folding could be huge for AI and Quantum computing( Qbits model biochemistry's quantum nature, better than binary) Deep Mind's self learning would be most likely if sufficient Learning Database was available. AWESOMENESS !! Medicine could LEAP forward !
@Norm T Good point. It seems to me that custom gene therapies and even DNA repair (CRISPR) can be now done on specific individuals for specific cases. Such custom gene therapy would require a team of top experts and a multimillion dollar facility. But when a person is a multi millionaire on their deathbed, money is no object. Just keep it all VERY quiet and the research will be funded...
This is incredible
I can't wait till we can use an advanced version of that plain text to code translator
That's gonna be sick
Thanks
Great news!
We were all waiting for the next "Einstein" ... then we made one... LOL
You did your intro=bit.. I was like:"They did what now?!??!" (in my defense it was autoplay.. I didn't read the title.. ) Wasn't expecting that... Wow..
