- On our small holding we grow a lot of our own fruit. Fruit is the expensive to buy so we have spent a a lot of time making sure we grow as much as possible.
Our currants have outgrown their protective cages so we need to create a new fruit cage of a larger size for little or no money.
Part 2 of this 2 part series deals with constructing the frame and netting over the new currant bed that we created in part 1.

The fruit cage looks great, Hugh is right that you’d never guess it wasn’t purpose designed as a fruit cage. Also it’s really refreshing how honest you were about the labour involved, it was hard graft and you didn’t cut it down to 10 seconds of fluff! Thanks again for another great video

That's sweet. We've got a massive old frame in the allotment that we think about covering with netting every year but never actually get round to it.
I've seen it in your lockdown videos - imagine the currants & raspberries thst you could grow!
We have a gazebo frame and scaffold net as a fruit cage, cheap and has been up for three years so far.
Brilliant! What a great idea. That will look so much better than my polytunnel frame and net!

Seems it would have been much less work to plant the currants inside the hoop cages in their original position!
I very much doubt that they would grow well when shaded out by trees in dry soil amongst tree roots.
