M6 in the Lake District: The most scenic motorway?

- When you think about the M6, your first thought is usually about all the traffic, the endless roadworks, or how ugly it is.
But head a bit further north into the Lake District, you'll find one of the most scenic stretches of motorway in the country!

I had 40 years truck driving and this section of the M6 and the A/M74 over Beattock were guaranteed to lift my spirits.

Roads don't always have to be destructive. If built with consideration to the landscape they can certainly add to it.

Only nice in good weather, try driving from jct 40 to jct 36 in torrential rain and 70 mph winds, then it becomes very scary, same as in winter snow is common at Shap. Yet otherwise far nicer than the overcrowded and stressful road you have south of Preston, so long as the weather is good.
Why not do the M6 again. The M6 passing through the Lake District is spectacular and breathtaking. Even travelling on Avanti West Coast up to Glasgow Central is also incredible.
That part of the M6 is not too far from the Scottish Borders
Definitely one of the most scenic parts of motorway driving having been on the M6 up to Carlisle.
