  • Recently I reviewed the Amscope MU503B microscope camera. It comes with the AmLite software, which I have found easy to install and use. The purpose of this video is to show you what features the AmLite software has. Additionally I quickly demonstrate calibrating the measurement feature of the software (so that you can measure lengths, area, etc), the stitching feature (so that you can assemble pictures larger than can be seen on the monitor at a given moment), and the stacking feature (which allows you to generate an image that is fully in focus when aspects of your subject are too tall to be resolved by the microscope simultaneously.
    0:45- Overview of the tools
1:05- What is stitching and stacking?

    5:15 Frame rate

Thanks a lot for the video on using the Amscope camera software - I found it interesting and valuable. I have been looking for UA-cam videos on microscope cameras to help me figure out if I should supplement my DLSR camera with a dedicated microscope camera, but have not found much useful stuff. I recently bought an Amscope camera and having watched your video on their software, I feel that I will be fully trained in its use when my camera arrives. Your video also clearly shows the kind of things you can do with a microscope camera and the software that comes with it. Your video makes clear that a microscope camera can do many things that my DSLR cannot. I'm glad I ran across your video and again, thanks a lot!

Yeah, it’s really quite amazing how simple it to do. -click a button and roll focus- I don’t think it could be easier!

@@zoominmicroscopy I've done focus stacking sort of manually with Photoshop (which is kinda automated but seems manual compared to what you were demonstrating). And it works pretty well. But I was truly amazed how easy your software made it. Good demonstration of how it works.

First it started out TMI. Then I noticed you were using an 🍎. Then you got into stacking. Thanx for a great video presentation. I’d like that microscope except not dark field and the centering issues with the diaphragm. 👍

Im on windows, and download the latest version of the equivalent software from the amscope page, but it looks that needs some drivers (directshow and twain), do you know by any chance where can i get those?

@zoominmicroscopy A very good presentation. I'm having trouble finding my recorded videos. I'm also lost in assigning an external SS memory for longer recordings (time laps). If you, or anyone else can help me with these problems I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance and please keep up the great work.

Great video, I learnt a lot. I use the same software. I was wondering if you could show how to make time lapse with it. I use a MacBook, like you but I can’t find how to get the control panel for time lapse up to control the number of images per second. On Windows computers there’s the menus but the Mac version doesn’t have the menus. Any help would be great thanks.

Thank you! I see if I can find out how to do that; I don’t know the answer to your question off the top of my head-I haven’t used the software in over a year, as I’ve switched over to using a mirrorless camera.

Greetings! Very interesting software. It’s a pity that you can’t shoot fast living creatures on video! There is not enough FPS for this ... Or is it possible?

Thank you for your comment! I’m going to find some pond water and check it out, but I am anxious that I won’t be able to film smooth video at higher magnifications or under dark field. I’ll let you know when I have results!!

Are you using an Apple Silicon Mac? I haven't been able to get AmLite working on an M2 MacBook Pro. It worked fine on my older Intel MBP and on Windows. (I even made sure I was using the same cables)

Greetings! Are you going to record moving animals with this camera? For example, Ciliates, Paramecium, Rotifers and others! I want to know how this camera captures fast moving animals!? Quality or what?

    • @zoominmicroscopy

Perfect timing of your question! I just took some video with the MU503B. Unfortunately, it did not perform very well. Its OK under brightfield using lower resolution settings, but at higher resolutions the frame rate was just too low causing a ghosting effect and streaking when moving the stage rapidly. Using darkfield the protist were very bright, had little detail, and the frame rate again was very low (2-5 fps). So, I'm probably going to give away the camera on the channel.
I'm currently exploring mirrorless and dSLRs, and learning a lot about optics and camera sensors. Its a lot of fun, and I'll be making videos soon. Thanks so much for your question!!!

      Hello Andy!
Thank you for your response and the work you have done. For photography, these cameras and their software are great! But only they have a very weak FPS, autumn is slow. Which is why I use Canon EOS 80D. With a DSLR or mirrorless camera, you can shoot fast animals and even quickly chase them around the field and quickly move the table without problems. Even in a bright field, even in a dark field, it doesn't matter. Because they shoot from at least 24FPS to 240FPS. You can shoot great shots in slowmo.

I wonder why there are very few subscribers on such a good and informative channel about microscopes? And on some stupid channel where they talk about nothing all day long, show all sorts of stupidity, there are tens of thousands of subscribers, a million views and thousands of admiring and stupid comments!
