Another smash!! I loved everything about this movie! Acting, story, suspense, production, storytelling, cinematography, and the directing was some of the best I’ve seen in a long, long, long, time!! I always forget that when you see one thing in the beginning of a movie, 9 times out of 10, your going to see it in the end. That’s how good this movie was. I love the build up to each seen, not knowing what direction it was going to go in. Here we are thinking she was the alien and in fact it was them trying to guard their home! Brilliant!! Great job on this one! Hollywood needs you really bad!!!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

John lamar _I wondered how the teenager didn’t know to boil potatoes? But then I was thrown off and distracted by the close relationship between the brothers. When the boy and girl both messed up with corn harvesting, I didn’t know what to think. I caught on at the very end, I mean during the “radio broadcast” end - but that gives me a reason to watch it again_

"The [native] species is extremely hostile"... This is easily the best line in the film, and it has all the appropriate layers of irony to make for excellent science fiction. The human settlers of the "Homestead" project have all but wiped the natives off their own planet going back to 1972, as human settlers have historically done pretty much everywhere. Only in this case the usurped native species aren't the pushovers the settlers originally think for 1) being able to adapt far better than the humans expect them to and 2) exacting the same types of vengeance we would have unleashed had it been our planet being taken over.
Her begging for mercy as she knows he is about to walk in and find his children massacred is probably fitting as many of these species likely begged for mercy and didn't get any when the humans settled and tried to obliterate them. The audience of human beings likely feels torn here, at least a bit in this conclusion; our desire for self preservation wants her to survive as a fellow human being, but we also know she is about to get what she deserves for the pain she has unleashed on this family. Perfect ending, really.
    Great stuff!

  • @asp3ra
    @asp3ra 4 роки тому +7

SPOILER ALERT. Sorry, but that movie is either severely flawed or far from self-contained. We have 973 "alien" colonists on a foreign planet that are presumably a threat to the native species - would require some superior technology, wouldn't it? But where is it?
Why do the siblings live in a house that looks 100% human? Why do they behave human, learn human history and religion, even their language and even *look* like them? To hide from one of the last unarmed and frightened humans remaining on their own planet?
Ok, the humans thought they had "killed them off", causing them to fear humans; but then why didn't he slay her with his axe right in the beginning as he surprised her (like other "natives" obviously do)? Anyway, how was it even possible that humans almost "killed them off" lacking any signs of that superior technology? Also compare this to the morphing skills of the "extremely hostile" natives. It's obvious who has the advantage in this colonization game.
No matter how I turn it, there are always broken links. Yes, the plot twist catches you. But I can't see that it's rooted in the story's setup.
If I missed something essential, please correct me, since I found some sentences hardly comprehensible, i.e. where their father went, what their father said about their home or the radio call in the end.

That is normal in a country setting. People traveling break down along the way and your house is the first house they can refuge in. So allow them in or let them kick the door down or break the glass windows to get in. Travelers spend the night and continue on their way the next day. Remote bush cabins are the same way. Using the facilities is O.K.. Leave split firewood for the next person that may need this as a refuge. Many people who travel RESPECT those simple rules. Not abiding by the rules, ruins it for everyone. You would not be able to use the OUTHOUSE so you got to take a dump on the ground like an animal.

What you are referring to actually has a name. It is referred to as “Chekhov’s gun” and is a dramatic principle that states that every element in a story must be necessary, and irrelevant elements should be removed. Elements should not appear to make "false promises" by never coming into play. Eg. "One must never place a loaded rifle on the stage if it isn't going to go off.
"If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise don't put it there." In this movies case it was eating raw potatoes which got the call back.

Pretty clear, the manifest destiny quote and the biblical quote attributed to Jesus, forgive them father for they know not what they do made it clear the indiginous aliens were peaceful, it was the invasive human colonists that were violent. She tells the story of her mom screaming while the invasion occured, it is clearly not earth so if she's human she would have been the invader. This must have been a story the young was told. I'm not sure if this was a mistake in the story or meant something. The children have been manipulated with stories. I'm not convinced she's not an alien as all colonists are said to be lost. The overall theme is solid, but I think for the twist to be extra excellent, the story writer sacrificed some details in the story that didn't make sense to keep it hidden until the end.

There was an outer limits episode that at first seemed like the stereptypical alien invasion except humans were the invaders with the advanced technologies.
There was a Star Trek Next Generation where the Riker was injuried visiting this alien world disguised as one of the aliens. The aliens were humans although they do have different facial features. Again, we were the aliens with the advanced technologies. That world's military advisor was paranoid about an alien invasion that will wipe out their world. So, eventually the leader of this world decided to cover the existence of our arrival. He then acknowledged that there is going to rumor spread of a visit by aliens and of course, a government conspirancy to cover it up. But, he felt their world is not ready. He also said he was forced to put the scientist that have seen our technolgy under house arrest to protect the public. Ironically, she does believe in the existence of extraterrestrials from other worlds. She volunteered to travel with the Enterprise D. So, it is the standard alien arrival story except it was flipped around. We were the alien vistors. The human inhabitants of this world were us.

No, she was human. The transmission we hear at the end likely happens sometime after she is killed, when the last (or only person) at the meeting point figures out no one else survived to reach him, and he's about to be killed.
And if she was one of the lizard people, why didn't she help the older boy after stabbing him? He did a *chirping* noise (the same one little brother did in the bath a minute later) that was totally non-human. If she was one of the Natives, she would've known right then and there she hurt one of her own.

Good ending, just before she walked into the trap it looked like there was something 'wrong' with her left eye, just a flash, that had me wondering. The sun glasses were a bit of a give away hiding the eyes, it might have been better to have his face obscured by light contrast, with strong sunlight behind him until he leant down for a close look at the girl. Sorry for the nit picking, this was one of the best recent releases on Dust.

The two brothers are originally not human. They are just adapting, talking, behaving, and taking form as human, since their planet had been invaded by human. The only human in this video is the girl herself. The older brother and the girl began to suspect each other, when they mention "weird" story about not cooking potato first, praying, and how to grow corn in farm. At the beginning of night, he also read bible so awkward, like learning how to read for first time.
The native species in this planet maybe like a lizard thing, who can change skin and transform into different species. You know the hints, by seeing the younger brother feel unwell (maybe dehydrated), telling the girl that his little brother needs to use the bathtub so long, so she has to use another bathtub outside. And at the end, you can clearly see the younger brother's half face turned into originally form (lizard face).
The story is about human invading and colonizing this planet, but it went bad when the natives strike back, so the colonization mission is failed (listen to radio transmission). The girl probably is just one of rest human survivors who barely escaped. That's why the older brother is in dilemma, whether killing her (using axe) or not, since they are enemy on each side. But he didn't do it, maybe because he likes her and thought she is a good human. Unfortunately, not for the girl. When she is certainly know that the brothers are the same species with whom attacked the human colonization, she killed them all.
The older man in the end, perhaps the brother's father, because he has different eyes.
