You can dodge (press left or right) when the gold saint start to saying the name of his attack. The time you press the button must be precise.
I think it is the same mechanic of attacking choice, that sometime the gold saint can block your attack (as the successful attack choice is random). So the same for dodging, either left or right if you make a correct side, you can completely dodge the damage.
However, this is TAS, he just save&load the shot that his attack/dodge is successful.

this is TAS, otherwise attack is ineffective until you follow the set procedure.

I was wondering the same thing.. I remember I used to mash the right or left button until it moved, I guess you're supposed to dodge in the right moment just after the golden Saint finishes talking before an attack... I should try that again
