In 2006 I was driven across Northern Ireland in the heaviest rain I can remember to eat at 'The best Fish Bar on the Island' so I was told. My host was making a special effort as it was my first time in this Beautiful Green though wet land. After a VERY long coastal drive it was starting to get dark but we had finally arrived. The short sprint from car to door had already soaked me to the skin, so once inside I took off my coat and was delighted to see a cosy warm restaurant complete with a peat-fire and all within view of the crashing-sea. With the intoxicating smell of the ocean tantalising my nostrils, a hungry me looked up at the menu-board behind the bar to read: 'Catch of the day: Steak and Kidney Pie' In all fairness... the pie was wonderful as was my host.

People dining in ate their food from plates, people dining out had their food packaged in a cardboard box. Seems to be less wasteful than modern fish and chip shops where everything is served in styrofoam.
I'm not British, was Fish and Chips actually considered old-fashioned in the 60s? As far as I understand it's a regular British food? I ate it myself when I was there, it wasn't hard to find.

I had the pleasure of meeting a sweet old carp about 10 years ago, he told me how he was fried into fish sticks here.
