@@bijendrakarki1860 You can't compare an off-spinner to a leg-spinner. It just isn't right, because the challenges are different. Leg spinners by default (since it is wrist based) get a lot of spin and variations but struggle for accuracy, warne was an accurate leg spinner. Off-spinners by default (since it is finger spin) have a lot of accuracy but struggle with amount of spin and variations. Muttiah could really spin it even though he was a finger spinner, and could also bowl a legal doosra so had variations. So, both are GOATs in their respective arts.

    • @harshal9368
      @harshal9368 3 роки тому +1

With baseball batting is much more difficult though. The cylindrical bat greatly reduces the area of proper contact with the ball whereas with a flat cricket bat there is a huge amount of area on the bat to have a proper connection with the ball. I live in the US and have tried a baseball bat and its very very difficult to get a good shot out of that

Very unscientific to even suggest. So why is a cricket batting average of 40 to 50 or higher considered to be successful whereas the benchmark for a baseball batter is 0.300. that is averaging to hit safely just 30% of the at bats. Your reference is totallly irrelevant.

Great to hear your genuine enthusiasm for leg spin. This tutorial is a treat, Warne being a true legend and master. Leg spin technique obviously goes further than this, you could liken it to a golf swing. One very important thing that Warnie has mentioned for the leg break is that the ball has to come 'up' and out of the hand on release. I would highly recommend focusing on this to novices learning leg spin. Flight is everything to getting a batsman out. If you can achieve the revolutions combined with speed, flight that goes above the eye line of the batsman is very difficult to face. By the way, you nailed the Aussie accent at around 10:30, specifically, Victorian accent where myself and Warnie are from.

@Rick: Most bowlers have to develop each delivery to disguise under same action, so that batsman won't know when they bowl it. So batsman might play wrong and might get out.
Developing means learn to execute those deliveries with full control, right line and length (where you pitch the ball). It doesn't necessarily mean they invented it.

He is the second highest wicket taker of all time, while playing majority of his matches in unhelpful conditions and competing for wickets against legendary bowlers in his own team. No other bowler compares to him in terms of what he has achieved in a long long career. Also, as demonstrated late in his career and now in commentary, he has a great cricketing mind too, contrary to his "Hollywood" image from his younger days.

12:05 in cricket the batter has a bit more time than baseball, so they will usually have a shot in mind for each type of delivery bowled at them depending on the fielders' positions. They try and identify "read" the delivery quickly and then get into position to execute their shot. It is about repetition of run scoring rather than looking for that 1 perfect ball because you only have 3 strikes.

Learning spin bowling is like learning to finger whistle. When you don't get it, it looks impossible. But once you get it, it's feels amazing.
In baseball, air speed is the only thing to keep in mind. But in Cricket, along with air speed, the 22 yard pitch also plays a big part, because different stadiums have different types of pitches which behave differently for the ball at different times of the day too.

Warnie had very strong hands and fingers. He could do things with the ball we mortals couldn't. Fielders close to the bat, short leg or silly point, say they could hear the ball hum as it travelled through the air. An old leggie meself, Warnie was the master, he was a bit better than me. In my own favour, I used to signal to the keeper when I was going to bowl the wrong'un or toppie, the flipper was after my time. I particularly enjoyed bowling to left handed batsmen, expecting the ball to pitch and come into the body, only to see it leave the body, that look of consternation was always fun. Had you yanks delayed your departure from the Empire/Commonwealth for a 100 years or so and got to field a Test team, cricket would really be fun.

This is 1 out of 2 types of spinner. the leg spin. there is another type called off-spin. which opposite to the leg spin. Off-spin goes left to right. you watched a video of R. Ashwin few days back, who is an off-spinner. Shane warne is an leg spinner (turning right to left)

Yep wow when talking about coming out of the back of the hand, thats why very good wrist spin bowlers are as rare as hens teeth, lots try but to get the accuracy takes a lot of skill and practice. If not accurate they get hammered by the batsmen.

One aspect that you may not have noticed is that right behind the bowler just outside the boundary, there is a movable sight screen (just a plain white one). This is there to help the batsman see the grip, the point of release of the bowl, the spin, etc. The screen is actually moved when the bowler is bowling from the right or left side of the stumps. Sometimes the batsmen can stop the game and make sure the sight screen is moved to the exact location he wants.

Two things make Warnie the GOAT spinner over Murali. 1) Warnie didn't try to conceal his bowling hand in his run up. 2) According to some of the best batters during Warnie's Test playing career, including Brian Lara, Murali's confidence would wane if he did not take early wickets. But Warnie would become more confident as the day progressed.

Guys there is a basic difference between how “Pitchers” bowl in Baseball and how “Bowlers” bowl in cricket. The most essential difference being that in Baseball, the Pitcher when delivering the ball, throws it straight at the batter. The ball DOES NOT come off the ground after bouncing, before the batter tries to connect with it. In cricket, the cricket ball invariably hits the ground once before reaching the batsman. So a cricket ball can be spun/swung/deviated off the pitch (ground), when it behaves and follows the trajectory of the spin that the bowler (like Warne), has imparted on it prior to release. Having said that, in cricket you can bowl a full ball at the batsman without making it pitch (bounce) in front of the batsman, just like pitchers in Baseball do. In cricketing terms, it is called either a Full Toss or a Beamer depending on the height it’s being released from by the bowler during delivery (Delivery by a bowler in cricket is equal to Pitch by a pitcher in Baseball). So, for “sliders” and “curve balls” that the pitcher pitches in Baseball, the trajectory of the ball depends entirely on how the ball spins/deviates/moves through the air as it essentially arrives at the batter without bouncing off the ground. In cricket however, depending on the ground condition, bowlers may generate additional movement / trajectory change off the ground too, so in cricket, the cricket ball can “spun”, “seam” or ‘swing’ in the air and off the ground as well. Good to see ya Yanks loving cricket. Cheers from Bangalore.

Observations and corrections. Firstly, a pitcher does not "throw it straight AT the batter". The interntion is to register a strike by having the pitch pass through some part of the strike zone. There are waste pitches in the game. Seeing that you regognise the cricket ball bounces off the wicket you would recognise that some velocity is also lost which means a ball released at the sme speed will reach a baseball batter quicker. Add to this the fact that a pitcher's stride lessens the distance travelled and it is clear there is less time to react in baseball.
Full tosses and so called beamballs (actually BEAN balls because they are thrown AT the head / bean) arre not the same. A full toss can arrive at the batter anywhere above the ground whereas a bean ball is named such for a reason.

Leg spin is more difficult to control than off spin. And yet Shane Warne didn't give away too many loose deliveries. And to make matters worse, he spun it a mile 😂😂 That made his googly even more lethal if you couldn't pick him.

In baseball it's about knowing the aerodynamics of your pitch .... one has to master the speed and the aerodynamics which control the speed of the ball . In Cricket , because the ball hit the ground first one has to control the spin with respect to the ground and how the ground will behave .
So in baseball is all about aerodynamics while in Cricket it's about controlling the ball based on how the ground will behave .
