In the 80s when I was in the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, a bunch of us "volunteered" to go down to Coronado Island and run their O course and do some rappelling. The course in the video is pretty much as I remember it. The hardest O course i ever did. I didn't run it anywhere near as fast or smooth as this guy of course but it was a cool thing to get to do.
I have to watch this again. I have never in my living life seen anything this intense, and I have seen some amazing athletes in action and trained with some incredible individuals. It's as thrilling to me to see people perform like this as it is to watch Olympians in action. But the difference is THIS is about life and death, not athletics.
I didn’t realize the tower is that far into the course. I can’t imagine doing that with fresh stomach muscles and core but having to do that with the stomach burning and on fire. That’s outrageous!
Wow that looks harder than I remember it back in 1976. They added more obstacles. I can't believe I used to do that. Not as good as that guy but respectable Hoo ya class88
Tough thing. I am thinking how fast I would pass it if I got a chance to. Looked for the video of o-course as well after having read the book Lone survivor. Cool, thanks for posting!
Awesome Video! sure you can figure out who i am from my email addy. Yeah this guy is like one of the smaller guys in our class and crushed all of us everytime through buds! he does a lot of crazy free running and rock climbing and stuff, Speedfreak your crazy! see ya tomorrow.
You can actually do that in multiple different ways, he chose this method, I might choose the method where I hang upside down. But keep in mind, these men are training to become SEALs, I am pretty sure that they don't feel that due to the other pain proposed to them earlier on in Phase one.
I would have been winded by the third obstacle! LOL. That rope ladder is high! If you slip and fall from that you're fucked. Same for that "slide to life"
So looking at the 10:30 they expect you to do in third phase, this dude is kicking some major ass! Is 6:00 common? What is the course record if you don't mind me asking?
I noticed some comments asking if civilians are allowed to try this course. Please try to understand that if civilians were allowed to try that O-course, the Navy would be swimming in injury lawsuits within a week. Even if the civilians signed waivers, the Navy would be sued for negligence for not placing pads or pools of water underneath every obstacle.
I'm guessing you're pretty much proper screwed if you take a dive off that huge vertical net? I heard somewhere they said that the obstacle course helps to "expose indecision." I would probably stand as the base of the net staring at it for 10 minutes before I was told to get my ass off the course.
Just read at socnet (dot) com in one of their threads that 5:30 may be the record, but who really knows. It did say that 6 to 7 minutes is about average though.
@speedfreak2080 So first phase is just inspections and hell week, THEN second phase is the obstacle course? I don't know i'm a bit confused because i'm going to enlist in becomming a Navy SEAL once when I become of age and earn my bachelor degree.
Seven Twenty & Ten Second's he is not a Navy Seal at the time of this video but he is in a buds class which is the class you have to take to start your journey to becoming a seal. You can see he has a brown shirt which means he passed hell week already and most people after hell week graduate or get rolled for medical reason and then graduate so more likely than not this guy is now a Seal or became a Seal and retired since this video is old.
Training and repeating it 4 to 5 times a week or more. The first few times you have to go slow and get the technic then you go faster once you are familiar with the course. That tower is the monster.
how high up does the cargo net go? Is it easy to keep your grip on that one or not? The slide for life is the scariest? And the spider wall must be a bitch?
If civilians were allowed to try that O-course, the Navy would be swimming in injury lawsuits in one day. Even if the civilians signed waivers, the Navy would be sued for negligence for not placing pads or pools of water underneath every obstacle.
I understand why some trainees fall and break a bone or 2 and are out of training. This is the most dangerous O course I have seen and I have seen Marine and Army and Naval Aircrew in Pensacola courses (I ran Pensacola for the Aviators and Aircrew) but this is the most dangerous. That Tower is real dangerous, you fall down you will fall down on the sand not water and you will break something.
Most OCourse have water under the rope slide.. we put a net back in 99 but more guys got fucked up when legs, arms and necks got entangled when they fell.. it only last a year or so.. most guys fall feet first (sand dart) but usually walk away.. some break legs and a few necks
Under 6:00 minutes is hauling ass.. most likely a Third Phase student.. your top performers for the class would be 5:15 to 5:30.. most of the class would be in the 6:00 - 7:00 range.. max time for Third Phase is 9min
Congrats on completing Hell Week, Brown Shirt!

Its a 6 minute obstacle course. Not really that intense.

That dude’s a stud. Hell yeah. Congrats on killing the O-Course.
It’s been 21 years but, I remember it like yesterday.
this deserves an olympic medal!!!

Good tecnique and good fitness level mate !
Lots of good memories in Coronado.

Анатолий Бубибу , я б умер где-то на половине )) Пацан-красава!
Legend has it that Don Shipley's hair finished the O course in 47 seconds
Shipley's hair is an O course. And no one has ever completed it.
I felt my lactic acid build up just from watching this guy.

Watching this badassery in 2020 🇺🇸
That course is a good work out, been there many of times...
Is this the same one that was talked about in the book Lone Survivor?
Awesome. As soon as he mentions it in the book, I just looked up this video because I knew I wouldn't understand what he was saying
So is the whole second half of the book
Just wait. Just fricking wait. It gets intense. I didn't even know war was like that in reality. I thought it was another exaggeration movies make
BandGeek Productions the course looks different from the one I saw in 2000 maybe upgrade but not the same
Paul Ramirez were you at Coronado then?
Oh man! This guy is good.
i would love to practice this on my own time
truly impressive.
Screw the course, I would have gotten tired from holding the camera. ..
In really good shape!
This looks like fun than anything else....
Great video as well as a very low time. The way he climbed that tower was interesting. Got anymore videos of the course?
BEAST MODE!!
Hell week grad! What class was this?
CathayGuy upper 200's maybe
Very Impressive.
I can do that, hold my beer
i don't think i heard a "hooyah" over the hooyah logs!
badass my friend. can't wait until i get my shot.
Gosh dang nice! What a stud:)
Damn. I would like to see what that looks like. If I had the balls to go out for the Teams, breaking that record would be an obsession of mine.
LOL, that's funny as hell but I can sure imagine them saying that
what happpens if you won´t get over the obstacle?
They kill you.
Very interesting. Thx for posting.
Dat obstable course id beasty!!

Blizzardtaint did you do it?
Holy dog poop.just running on the Burma bridge.
is there a day where civiline can try this course for fun?
Mr. O-course?
Do you honestly think he can answer that if he is on one?
This guy i think is relatively short just like me but,Is he a seal already or just trying the course He's pretty fast tho

70% chance he graduated.. most likely a Third Phase student during video
did you guys have to get permission to run the o course? is there another branch of the military that runs that very course?
Hell ya that's just encouraging right there. If he can do it....I better step up my game that's all I'm saying.
I always wondered if someone has ever died from falling off the tower or something.
BTW, how hard is that flip move to get up the tower?
Does anyone know the actual record time for the O course there at Coronado?
Is this on base? if so, If I can get on base can I do this?
In Soviet Russia, O-Course runs YOU
Damn he making this look easy

Wonder if he became a Seal? He passed hell week already because of the brown shirt
god damn, looks fun but idk if i could finish that in 6 minutes lol
Looks like fun
Is this a BUD/S student practicing on a weekend?
Where’s all the colorful soft padding just in case you fall? 😂
how high up does the cargo net go? Is it easy to keep your grip on that one or not? The slide for life is the scariest? And the spider wall must be a bitch?
If i ever do this that high net and slide to life will be the hardest but swear to god i will try my best on it even if i fail
Can anyone go on the O Course or do you have to have a military ID?
If civilians were allowed to try that O-course, the Navy would be swimming in injury lawsuits in one day. Even if the civilians signed waivers, the Navy would be sued for negligence for not placing pads or pools of water underneath every obstacle.
After you finish that O Course do you immediately move on to the hard O Course?
You move on to P Course. Duh.
The hard O Course is at the Third Phase “Island”
@WOWskarphace active duty, check in with the quarter deck
and go for it.
what is this for?
