Lots of people getting into Summer Tubbing thanks to the Aquarium Co-op channel and Master Breeder Dean. It would be really awesome to see summer tubs (150 L to 800 L) made out of recycled plastic, to show off various plants as well as the fish/shrimp that are being grown/bred in the summer tubs. Thank you!
I sort HDPE into 3 categories by their viscosity: -Thick, or blow molded as you mentioned. This includes things like milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, and most household containers. -Thin, or injection molded as you mentioned. Which can be anything from paint buckets, hard hats, milk and soda crates, Ice cream containers, and even some large storage totes. This also includes Type #4. LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene.) Which is more than likely what you're bottle caps actually are. And this also includes MDPE medium density polyethylene (Sometimes labeled as type 3 because the resin sorting system just awful) MDPE can be found most often as a packing material. It's melts beautifully too. -Grocery Bags. These get their own category because of additives that make them even thicker than blow molding and also fibrous. They melt really well, and the thin layers let you do some neat tricks. Unfortunately it CNC's with a terrible finish, and hitting it with a heat gun makes it worse.
You guys really ought to try my press. It has all the benefits of direct heat, actively clamps during the process, and can be set to the side while cooling so your oven can roll right into heating another press. It's monumentally less labor. And you're only using $8 in springs instead of an entire bottle jack.
@@MaryAnnNytowl That's a nice find but can still only handle one at a time. Since my devices is both the press and the clamp I can pull them out of the oven to cool and load up the whole new set. What they lack in size they make up for in speed, ease-of-use, and a consistently lower price without getting lucky.
seeing you twist the molten plastic reminded me of candy pulling. I wonder if it's possible to do plastic pulling? It would probably make the plastic much weaker, as the point of pulling candy is to introduce air bubbles but it would be interesting to see if it's possible.
A candy hook might be a good tool for the stretching and twisting of the combined plastics. Lofty Pursuits does this in a lot of their videos (except with molten sugar).
Good to see ya'll still at it . We expanded and have a line of jewelry made especially by volunteers and regulars that come to have fun turning garbage into treasures . I would really like a cnc machine to make products but you know as well as I do there has to be an end to the amount of tools you own lol . Otherwise you wouldn't have any room to work . @@BrothersMake like I said I used do this myself and never understood why some hdpe would be more molten/melt faster than other bits of hdpe. So it definitely helps that type of insight/knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
A jar with lid would be cool with food grade plastics for storage like beans or even bathroom use like q-tips. ANother cool idea would be spoon rests or soap dishes, ash trays (lol), lamp shades, pet food dish or bowl holder, knife block for your plastic knives, trash bin, office supplied organizer to name a few
Hey guys, can you guys please do a video on the different types of plastic and what their number is. And how each of the plastics will flex or not flex. That would be nice. Thank you for the great videos. Forrest
Where did you get the shredder? I've got two high school students working on a project to reuse 3d printer filament failures/rafts/supports and they could use a shredder.
Thanks for your videos, could I share them at work we are reducing our plastic waste and your ideas and videos will help with getting more staff to recycle and because of how large our organisation is you will get alot more people watching. I would like to see if you could make a kitchen tidy I have a lot off cereal boxes and bottles of bbq sweet chilli and yoghurt mint sauce and need to stack them up neatly as I don't have a lot of cupboard space. Glad I found your channel! My meds bottles are white No, 2 plastic. Sadly, the old microwave I was going to use for projects finally gave up the ghost. The microwave won't go to waste, though. The inside has plenty of room to hold items out of the way while the paint or glue dries.
An idea: produce a download of the pattern you made for the CNC. All of your designs are sellable. I think your wine carrier would be a great Mother’s or Father’s Day gift. Also perfect for celebrating engagements, weddings, anniversaries or Valentine’s Day.
Where can I find a plastic shredder like that???!!! 1:35 I want. I need. My family thinks I am crazy for saving recyclable materials( they take up space).
I'm not seeing this as a consumer product. But maybe a trade item. It could be adapted to serve a bottle of wine in a cafe or restaurant and presented by wait staff and branded for novel touch.
Have you guys thought about trying to work with plastic bags? I've seen some people make rope out of plastic bags, some people even make plarn (plastic yarn) im thinking about getting into the recycling business and thought maybe plastic bags would be a good start. Love the videos though, keep up the good work🙌
Great CNC machine.... you can plan to cut items from a whole sheet to reduce time and effort wasting...example... cut a wine carrier from the middle and a couple of keychains bearing your logo from around the edges all in the one setting.
Could you add glitter to any of your projects? I have old glitter (back from before we knew about the evils of plastic and glitter) and I'm looking to use it in a way that won't let it escape into the environment and thought maybe it could be melted in with a project.
If you stay within the temperature guidelines of HDPE Is it still not safe to use your regular kitchen oven in order to melt some of the plastic? Thanks for the videos I love them.
A question, why the hdpe is not used on interior floor tiles, is it toxic, very delicate, too much work or another reason ???, greetings from Santiago of Chile.
Hey guys really love this channel. I really enjoy watching what you've done and you've inspired me..But how do you figure out how many bottle caps is going to take to do a project? Maybe I'm too new to your place here. But as a newbie, how do you know how much you need? Do you know by weight? By approximate number of caps? Just hope you can spare me from the.. "Learning the hard way" bit. Regardless, still love what you do whether you answer me or not I'll still be a fan. Thank you anyways.

A bit late to the party as I just discovered you guys this past makers secret santa, but you want to be careful cutting out whole pieces on a CNC machine. Loose pieces can catch the bit and either be thrown or break the bit, its safer to leave tabs on it and cut it out manually.
Sir/ma'am, 1st of all 3d printer are expensive and 2nd of all, if they don't work with HDPE then that would be a total waste of money. These 3d printer filaments are already made by some companies professionally and I would also like to see this two brothers experiment with that but they probably won't.
Is't it possible to make filament for a 3d printer (1,75 mm) from these materials? The meltingtemperature is low enough to adjust this printer to and the colours would be amazing.
Hi Guys. An important question... How easy would it be to scale to produce for example 10,000 wine carrier or any of your products for that matter? What would be the greatest challenge? Would the costs for machinery be high or what would be the most costly part of scaling?
