I don’t tell people this often: but I was a heroin addict. I find it extremely predatory that someone volunteering at a shelter was there to try and recruit EXTREMELY vulnerable people. My piece of advice if you want a job as a felon: serving and bartending. Even if it’s not you’re thing, it’s a start and you’ll make pretty good money and sometimes great money depending on the place. It’s my current job and I only work 3-4 days a week and make about 75k/ year. No place I’ve ever worked at has background checked and only cared that I could do the job well and have a good way with people. I’ve seen many addicts do well at this job because usually our people skills are good and we aren’t shy anymore. In addition to this there are many other olaces that are legit that will hire felons or just not even background check. Get your CDL or something. My friend is currently a GM at a retail place and he has a record. These jobs are out there. Don’t let these too good to be true types interfere with your success and recovery. After all the stress of an MLM could easily lead someone to relapsing.
I'm also a recovered addict, heroin/ fentanyl. This story was awful and reminds me of the drug dealers that hang around the methadone clinics and NA meetings to look for potential customers.
Also following it up with “I don’t want to do that, so I won’t,” makes it clear that there isn’t just some difficulty that they could ‘help’ you clear up. Even if it’s the most valid and non-negotiable difficulty, they’ll always have a rebuttal. “I don’t want to” and “I will not do that” aren’t up for problem-solving. They’ll still argue at you, and that’s the point at which you go “okay thank you for the conversation I-gotta-go-bye! :)” and just hang up or walk away. Ignore them if they continue to pester. If they are literally in your face act confused why they’re talking to you, since the conversation was clearly over. You can say all these things with a gentle tone and pleasant affect so that you don’t feel uncomfortable crossing your OWN boundaries of what feels “socially acceptable.” Because it’s better to get the words out of your mouth, and it’s honestly more effective to be oh so genteel and let their aggression and pushiness shine against your calm tone. Say what you had to say and don’t beg them to demonstrate they heard you. They’re now the “hysterical and out-of-control” one in this situation. And if it’s a phone call, just click “end”, you don’t owe them anything =D Edit: some advice I’ve seen for how to speak to pushy people who talk over you and won’t let you get a word in edgewise- speak in a firm, polite tone in an inside voice (do not try to shout over them) and steadily say every word you had to say WHILE they talk over you. Then move on as if they heard and understood you, because you were talking and they should have been listening. You’re in control here. They’re desperate for something from you. Don’t give it to them.
I’ve taught my daughters to respond with, “I do not support MLMs” or “I do not use credit cards.” I find it works better than just saying “no.” Many salesmen don’t accept a no, but telling them you don’t support their business let’s them know you won’t be talked into whatever their selling.
I’ve always apologized for telling people no. Whether it’s MLM hun, someone collecting signatures, someone who is homeless, some stranger asking for a cigarette. I always make up some lie : I’m not registered to vote or in a felon lol, Oh I just smoked my last one , oh no sorry I don’t have any cash. And it sucks that so many of us feel like we have to explain ourselves to literal strangers asking you for something . Like a simple no thank you should suffice
DO NOT INGEST ESSENTIAL OILS!!! I highly recommend chubbyemu’s video about an real ER case report of a kid who drank his moms wintergreen essential oils
I'm a personal trainer but when I watch your videos while exercising I can exercise forever. I've never seen results this fast. I should start hitting up my friends like "Want to see results like me? Just watch these videos while exercising and the pounds will fall right off. No need to join an MLM or buy their worthless products."
This description has me so angry! 🤯🤯🤯 Women who are in shelters do NOT need more abuse...and MLM's are abusive! They lie, gaslight, word salad, guilt & shame, bait n switch, neglect, use financial and sometimes spiritual abuse etc as well. Going to a woman's shelter is so incredibly awful....my head is about to explode!
I am in a 12 step program for alcohol abuse (think AA). One of the more prominent members has been involved in several MLMs. She has done recruiting in and outside of the rooms of AA. Often (myself included) many of the women have gone through years of addiction and are either homeless or unemployed. She targets these new comers as a way to sell her pyramid scheme! Edit: Oh man!!! I wrote my comment before the story about Sheryl and IT Works was even brought up!! I had no idea this was a problem outside of my own experience in addictions recovery!! 100% I didn’t even get to this part of the video when I wrote my comment!!
Ughhhh. They always pick on the people who are in difficult situations the most. But I want to say congrats on entering the program and I'm wishing you luck. You've got this!
This makes me so angry. 😠 These people are VULTURES. I hope your recovery hasn't been set back too much by this. It's unbelievable to think that this has even permeated recovery programs. I wish you the best. ❤️ Addiction runs in my family, and I've struggled with it myself too. I hope you have a good support system despite this mlm nonsense.
That's so unfortunate that a safe space was turned into an MLM predatory situation. I wish you well on your recovery journey. As a recovering alcoholic myself I understand the struggle.
Nobody should be "prominent" in a recovery program, but I know personalities get in the mix and they can do real damage. Seriously, there's a reason for "principles before personalities." Anyone who uses a program for personal gain is flat out doing it wrong and should be called out for it. At least you can warn others away from this person's undue influence. Keep doing your program and growing!
I got a call from a Mary Kay rep after trying on dresses at David's Bridal (Hey! Don't fill out your contact info for them! They give it to all kinds of vendors). She wouldn't shutup about me "winning" a facial party and I just wasn't interested. She wouldn't accept "I'm not interested" and I ended up just hanging up. I felt really bad, especially being a Southerner, but in the ensuing years learning about MLMs I'm glad I just hung up.
My husband a sweet sweet man, saw someone with Mary Kay on their car. He goes I wanna get something for my wife. I luckily was with him and i went NOOOOO
Sooooo you don’t wanna buy any from my friend who I told to get lost after pitching to me for the third time last week? Keep in mind she claims they’ll help me not need my feeding tube to keep me alive anymore 😂 I told her get lost with that crap
I lived in a recovery home and went to meetings daily, etc. It really angers me that this lady was pitching outside the meetings. That was one of the most vulnerable times of my life
My friend did a Mary Kay makeup party when we were about 11. We just thought it would be fun to learn how to apply makeup from a professional, and the rep was friends with the mom. The rep zeroed in on me for some reason - she kept telling me how pretty I was and how talented I was with makeup. She pointed out a few different products I should buy, and I really fell for it. The problem was I was ELEVEN and my family was also poor, so I couldn't buy the products. The rep then told me I could borrow money from my friend's mom to order the products. I have always hated mooching so I refused to do that. The rep seemed annoyed but also gave me her card and encouraged me to have my own party, because I was so talented with makeup. Needless to say, I didn't choose to host my own party. Also, I have always been terrible at doing my makeup.
The story of the snake oil rep telling a teenage girl in ED recovery to literally poison herself every day to lose weight… literally makes me want to scream. What an evil thing to do to someone.
We've had something similar when I was at a women's shelter. Lipsense had a rep post adverts to the shelter and our key workers (women who helped us secure housing and helped with other aspects) had no idea that its a predatory company. As soon as I saw the advert on the living room coffee table, I took it to the team lead and expressed my concerns. She apologised and said that they'd be on look out for similar ads in the future. Absolutely abhorrent behaviour from reps.
Pro tip: toggle the cellular data button so it says “call failed” for the other person instead of hanging up. I hate talking on the phone but I’m still toxically polite (working on it). EDIT: I’ve heard of military using prep H (a vasoconstrictor) with Saran Wrap to make tape/pass PT. It’s temporary. I wonder if that’s how the it works wrap works too.
I own my own company making soap, body oils, etc. and yes, I tell my customers this all the time. Peoples skin is so different, not every product is for everyone and even though I’m a tiny business and every single sale is important to me, I would absolutely refund anyone who had a reaction to my product. I might encourage them to look at the ingredients and consult with their doctor about if they might have an allergy to one of the ingredients just for their own information going forward, because that’s something you want to know as you’re looking for something else. But yes, immediate refund and encourage them to find something else from another company that works for their skin, sheesh.
I remember when a MaryKay rep tried to convince me that Burt's Bees lip products were "addictive." She claimed my lips would develop some kind of addiction to the products from being dried out by the tinted lip balms. I remember telling her that I've never heard such a thing and that sounded a bit ridiculous, but she emphasized that it was true because of the ingredients. I never bought any of her MaryKay products, but I stayed away from Burt's Bees because of her "advice" for a couple of years. I just recently bought my favorite Burt's Bees tinted lip balm again and guess what? It's not addictive. I actually use it less than my other lip products and I don't feel like I must use it or that my lips are developing some kind of withdrawal 😅 That whole claim was just so weird...
There was a rumor that lip balm (any type) was addictive when I was in high school in the mid-90s. In the early 2000s, someone else told me that medicated lip balm Carmex was addictive. I never believed there was any particular addictive ingredient- BUT I have noticed some people (myself included) can develop a compulsive habit when it comes to using things like lip balm, hand sanitizer or whatever. So it's not the product/brand itself, just my own brain getting hooked on repeat behavior.
When I was a kid the chain letters were literal letters! The anxiety I feel at the idea of contact with an MLM, comes from how freaked out I was by that bloody letter.
This scam took me back, too! Mine was an email chain for dish towels. The guilt I should feel was clearly laid out in the letter if I "broke the chain." But what would I want with masses of dish towels at 13 years old??? I just didn't understand how I had been roped into it....
Just wanted to let you know how much i love the way you talk/read. It's so calm and soothing. And it's so easy to listen to as someone who isn't a native english speaker. I think you mentioned once how you weren't sure if people would watch non AntiMLM content of yours, but i totally would!
Yeah I have like no experience with MLMs. I found her randomly and I’m obsessed because of her voice and the way she does her videos. Any and all of the other anti MLM UA-camrs , I can’t get into to. I can’t handle it. I just can’t . Especially I think the most popular one
Hannah…. You are the ultimate puppy whisperer…. I started playing your vid and my puppy calmed down almost immediately. She is still very new to us and being left in the pen while we eat or clean… thank you
I went to a Mary Kay consultant house for a makeover. Within 7 minutes of her finishing, I had hives, hot skin, and incredibly itchy. I didn't even make it out of her cul de sac. She acted surprised. Then offered to do a botanical product on me next time. I was confused because I told her I had sensitive skin so why not do that in the beginning? I was so done. I was miserable for days and had to get steroid pack.
OMG, the letter about the chain letters really took me back. When I was a kid we only had "snail mail" but those letters were a real fad. I remember one hilarious prank- letter my dad got called the "Fertilizer Club", in which you were supposed to go to the address at the top of the list and poop on their front lawn. That way, the letter pointed out, everyone would have a lovely front yard come spring, and nobody would have to put out good money for fertilizer. I remember how startling it was to try to imagine 216 people coming to take a dump on your front yard. "
Agreed. When I was in doTerrible, I took some oils internally (naive and following my friend's advice). Bloody hell, I was really bad afterwards. My stomach felt like it was set on fire. The AIA (Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy) do a self report thing every year where people can talk about side effects they've experienced with essential oils. It's a fascinating read.
When I was about 7-8 I was at a sleepover and one of the little girls had brought Mary Kay night cream and such because she thought it would be grown up to do a nighttime routine. The next day when my mom picked me up, she asked what on earth I got into because my face was significantly broken out.
The best detox is to drink a lot of water and let your kidney's do their job. Once again, the only essential oils you should consume (for example peppermint) can be best bought in grocery stores.
I loved stickers as a child and my mom didn't do a chain letter per say, she made a stapled sticker book and mailed it to a friend. Each page was only big enough to fit 3 or 4 sticker. Anyways, she mailed it and asked that person to mail it to someone else and when it was filled, our address was on the back so we could get it back. We got the booklet back and I loved looking at the stickers. Thinking of that now, I wouldn't want to send my address out like that. I don't think people thought like that though, when I was younger. Like when people gave out homemade food to trick-or-treaters. It is good to be careful and I am glad there is anti MLM content to help warn us and keep us safe.
1. You don't need to apologise if English isn't your first language, you should be proud of yourself for knowing more than one language 💕 (I'm still working on not telling people "Sorry, my Swedish is bad, can we please talk English?", but then remember that since my professors were able to understand me, others should too 😅... but just FYI, English isn't my 1st language either 😅😂) 2. My aunt once heard from a friend that there's some tree bark which you can make into a 'detox tea' and how great she's been feeling since... it wasn't from an MLM, but anyway, my aunt and grandma have tried it but realised that 'detox' basically just means throwing up and diarrhea so they stopped. They had ordered like 1kg of it which has just been lying around for like 2 years before getting thrown out
I just remembered something--when I was thirteen years old, I went to a sleepover at a friend's house and a friend of the friend's mom gave us a presentation about Lia Sophia, which I'm finding out from Google is a now-defunct MLM. She handed out catalogues and encouraged us to ask our moms to buy products for us. Thankfully there was no talk of recruitment, but still pretty weird to pitch to a bunch of eighth-graders, in my opinion. I don't think we partygoers were told about the presentation in advance, either; I just remember that not long after our respective parents dropped us off, there was a lady in the living room setting up folding chairs and a table with products and catalogues. I thought it was a bit odd but didn't recognize the insidiousness of it at the time.
I'm just now remembering the hairbow chain letters and the book chain letters when I was in elementary school. My mom used to *make* hairbows for me, so the hairbows we sent out on this scheme were for sure better quality than the dollar store ones other people got. I don't think we ever got anything back 🤣
Been sober for 21 years and I’ve been to recovery meetings in many places, I know of some where you might get your ass kicked for peddling your MLM to people fresh out of treatment
My mom has recently gotten into the vitamin mlms and it's really worrying me because she's starting to think she won't need to take her medication anymore. I've been watching your horror stories, and seeing how people of mentioned their family members passing away after stopping medication because of some miracle product has made me so anxious the same thing is gonna happen to me. I've tried gently explaining, but she is so sure that organic and natural is better than doctor medication. I'm keeping an eye on her just in case there is a day she stops taking her meds.
The same chocolate bar pyramid scheme happened to me in high school, only it was with underwear! How weird is that? I never got a single pair of underwear back and I was so mad!
No way! I participated in that one too!! But I got cute ones back!!! Not as many as I should have, but still! This was over 20 years ago in college. I think I only got rid of the last ones a few years ago! So weird!!!! I love this story!!
If someone will not stop talking to you on the phone and you’ve been polite and made it clear that you’re not interested, it’s not rude to hang up. They’re being rude for continuing to monopolize your time and for pressuring you. We should never Support rude behaviour, and continuing to be on the call is telling them that what they’re doing is okay, or at the very least acceptable. I think that in this situation hanging up is actually the appropriate response. If they were yelling at you and swearing at you hanging up wouldn’t be considered rude, and in my opinion this falls into the same category.
I was at a conference and there was a booth for "It Works" and she did a wrap on me. The woman did all the measurements on my abdomen. She redid the measurements and said that I lost 2.5 inches off my waist! Wow!. She did the measurements very quickly and I didn't get to see the number myself. I however could not tell a bit of difference in my clothes . . . You would definitely feel that much inches lost in your clothes. What a lie.
I found your channel a few weeks ago! I’m a first time mom and I’m loving binging the anti-MLM content while pumping/breastfeeding. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Becoming a mom has been one of the most beautiful and special things of my whole life. I hope it is for you as well!!
Hannah! I hope your pregnancy is going well☺️ I found your channel a couple weeks ago and started binging the MLM horror stories. When I came across the video of you announcing your pregnancy and saying that all you’ve ever wanted was to become a mom, I cried. It was just so beautiful to hear. I’m a first time mom as well, my son is 7 months. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done♥️ I’m so happy for you and wishing you and your family the best new year!
My grandma used to give me young living wolfberry oils when I was sick. They always made my throat hurt worse and made me nauseous. All these years she said it was "ninja juice" and had vitamins to convince little kid me to drink it. It haunts me now knowing that it was from a pyramid scheme and now my organs are probably permanently messed up
I remember this girl I met wanted to introduce me to It Works, and claimed that my loose skin from my pregnancy would be fixed with a few wraps. I didn't know better at the time so I said yes to "a trial wrap" she wrapped me and then tried to get me to pay her $40 and I refused to pay her because she said it was a trial and prior to meeting never told me I'd have to pay. She tried to Weasle her way to $40 and I wasnt having it. Never spoke to her again. And It didn't even work!
I was really proud of myself a few years back when I convinced a friend to back out of a “book gift circle” at a time she was going through a rough time and wanted to provide for her kid. Anyone can fall for these unrealistic promises.
My understanding for chain emails is to collect valid emails to sell, like to scammers and what-not. I could be wrong but that is how it was explained to me by an IT guy I used to know at work.
I'm old enough to remember chain mail/letters (USPS snail mail hand written letters), and the request was to send $1.00 and pass the letter to the next person. You would use the white pages to find random names and addresses.
I remember being in middle school and a girl would walk in with envelopes and hand them out to 10 or so girls, each envelope contained the chain letter and maybe a dollar, with instructions to copy, add a dollar, and keep it going, with the obligatory curses if we failed. Hearing you say you first got these in email at 10, makes me feel that I'm a lot older than I feel sometimes. Still a fun thing to remember.
I never catch these this early 🥰🥰 commenting to boost it for the algorithm. Love what you do, Hannah. Thanks for keeping me company while I’m writing 💕
The gift scam..... Reminds me of this basket thing that was going on in my local free group on Facebook. We put our name on the list and then someone would pick us and we would put together a basket of stuff for them. Each person shared what kind of stuff they liked. It was like $25 or less. I did my person's basket and then waited. The person that got my name was the person that started the whole thing. When it was finally my turn, the person that got me suddenly had "health issues" so she couldn't do me. I was the only person that didn't get their basket. It didn't seem like a scam until I really thought about it lol
I had an allergic reaction at a Mary Kay as well. My face broke out in red, blotchy dry patches that didn't go away for days. There's no way of knowing which product was the problem because you slather your face in so many products that those parties!
It raises so many red flags that MLM sellers often refuse to acknowledge or minimize allergic reactions. Having a reaction to a product doesn't make the product necessarily bad, but if someone is saying "you can't be allergic to this" I am gonna trust them LESS
The MLM structure is so so toxic and it's so scary. In my interaction with a Mary Kay consultant she said some quote along the lines of "Women make their best decisions in 1 hour." That may not be exactly right but that was the idea. Looking back I can see that it was totally a marketing ploy to get me not to think too hard about joining. So glad now that I didn't.
Some of those chain letters really upset people because they think they will be cursed & I have a vague memory of an agony aunt saying that someone could forward it to her just to put her mind at ease. Which I thought was really nice. I think they just start from people being malicious -they like the idea that they're upsetting other people
Story 4: Dangling money in front of desperate people is an unforgivable sin. Having said that, it's possible that the rep recruiting ex-cons had deluded herself into believing she was helping. The mind is capable of incredible feats of self-delusion.
When I was in the Navy, I was always at the top of my weight and so I’d wrap myself with Vicks and cellophane wrap whenever it was weigh in time. It’s not a permanent solution. The thing is to dehydrate yourself and not eat as well for at least 8 hours before so the skin on your stomach shrinks so you can meet weigh in. It’s not healthy at all and I don’t recommend it.
If someone phone-hostages you, you are within your full rights to Phone-run away from the phone-kidnapper. :) I also find it helps me when I do Kind of a goodbye: "I've told you what I think, I am Not interested, Thank you goodbye", and then IMMEDIATELY hang Up, basically as a Part of the Last sentence, with No breath in between, No Chance to chime in, No waiting for a Feedback. It makes me feel Like I said more of a normal goodbye instead of a hangup.
Wow! These stories sometimes sound unreal, but having met people it doesn’t surprise me. It’s shocking how manipulative some “Huns” get with their “businesses”. Ugh, it’s sickening that so many are blinded by the opportunity of money.
All the oil reps push drinking them. I hate it, because essential oils can be good for some things when using them correctly. I fell for it when I was a young mom. I ingested EO for probably around a year.... It made me so sick.
If ive said no several times and the person is still going on, on the phone "im going to hang up now because ive said no" or in person "im going to go now because ive said no"
My mom was a part of this literal chain letter that had a list of 5 people on it she had to send $1 to. She then updated her name on the bottom of the list and sent that letter out to 600 people who would in turn send her $1 too. Lol...she never got a penny.
My husband's aunt had rheumatoid arthritis and was convinced to get ozone treatments to help her. She felt they helped and used it for years and they kept trying to get our small family roped in to help our daughter with cystic fibrosis. We politely declined and said that the program that her doctors had put her on were quite effective and she was doing well. I don't know if it was tied into an MLM or if they were going to a "doctor" to get these treatments, but it seemed an outlandish claim so we steered clear. I doubt it actually did any good--and I have no idea if it did any harm. She passed about 10 years ago.
Before chain emails, there were chain letters. The ones I remember would tell you to mail a dollar to the person who sent the letter in addition to mailing the letter to ten people. My mother tried it once and never got any money back.
As a nurse, that is the first question we ask, along with the pain scale. Is there blood in stool or urine, then what new have you ingested. As soon as we hear mlm product. Yup ok.
Also the safest way to ingest these type of plants is to just go to the source. Grab a lemon and a few peppermint leaves and brew some tea. Or buy ready made teas with said ingredients. You can also find concentrates like tablets and such. I used to take a ginger tablet for a while for a similar reason to hers. I have been diagnosed with chronic gastritis last year and last year it got really bad really fast. So the doctor prescribed me ginger tablets that has some vitamin in them on top of ginger extract to calm down my frequent nausea after eating or drinking. They worked great for my brother when he was hungover. He said he felt a lot better after just one. Lots of brands make this type of products.
Hey hannah! If you saw my story in your email, the subject line says MLM "SUCCESS" STORY 😄😄😄💖 I only call it that because I successfully avoided an mlm! I hope that you read it eventually. Love your videos.
I always say start with Clinique if you've never used makeup. It's not the best ever but it shouldn't create problems. Almay and Neutrogena are ok drugstore. Work up to Rare Beauty for a better quality.
I remember the chain letter going around among Kelly Family fans. You were supposed to send a picture to the top person and then you would get six pictures back. No one ever sent any pictures. They just put their name in there and expected pictures to come to them. I actually did send a picture because the person on top turned out to be one of my penpals. She was so surprised to actually get a picture. She only got the one from me, and she wrote me and said she hadn't sent a picture to the person on top when she had the letter.
I also got approached while stile getting high trying to get sober! It was itworks! They had me sign up my uncle and only when he died two years ago did his fish oil supplements end! So sad they tricked me at the ultimate vulnerable time and I roped my poor uncle into. He lost 100s of dollars. It works targets drug addicts/recovring people
Hi from the uk, new to your channel so binge watching everything at the moment!! Thank you for the way you are informing everyone about the nature of MLM’s x
If I ran across someone trying to recruit people at a recovery meeting, I would personally confront them with bringing in an outside issue and using the program for personal gain, both of which are out of bounds. It doesn't matter what specific program this was; that kind of thing is NEVER allowed.
If you have nausea, drink peppermint or ginger tea. Those can help with nausea. EOs are in all herbs we consume... are often added to recipes in the form of zest from an orange or lemon or lime... but consider that it takes several POUNDS of zest to make one of those tiny bottles of oil... which need to be diluted in a carrier oil.
Peppermint oil can be helpful for ibs related symptoms which is why you can buy it in the correct amounts in gastro resistant capsules so it actually gets to where it needs to go. And it is incredibly important to swallow them with a *lot* of water because if they get stuck and the oil comes in contact with your throat it will burn 🔥. The fact that oily huns take a small grain of truth and then cover it in dangerous levels of bullshit makes me absolutely furious as both a pharmacy professional and ibs sufferer
Back in the 80's I participated in a recipe chain letter. I only received two back. What made me pass it on was, it said no curses, etc. But please pass on the fun.
The only time I have ever seen a real medical professional prescribe, or suggest an essential oil was the time that I had a dry socket from having my wisdom teeth removed, and they soak a piece of gauze in Clove oil but they said it was a specific type and that is food grade and I was told not to swallow it if I could help it, but it did immediately take away the pain, so that’s the only time I’ve used an oil like that and I would not even trust myself to be able to do that properly and find the right kind of clove oil let alone someone who has no training and wasn’t an oral surgeon.
Clove oil and clove essential oil are 2 different things. Clove oil is oil like olive, almond, etc, infused with cloves. Clove essential oil is what comes out of the cloves during distillation and is super concentrated. It takes thousand of pounds of plant material to get a gallon of essential oil.
I feel like if you tell somebody no multiple times and they keep talking over you won’t listen to what you have to say that it’s OK to hang up on them. It’s your time you’ve already given her a chance to pitch her team you don’t owe her anymore then that. You didn’t even owe her that.
Oh my god, I made the mistake of giving my grandmother my email address ten years ago and she used it to send me chain emails all the damn time, particularly ones that had a strange Christian lean. 😂 My favorite was the one that could basically be summed up as "Look at all the wonderful creatures that God has made!" and it was just images of cool looking animals, which included a gorgeous, pillowy white fighting fish with long, flowing fins, which are a 100% man-made domesticated version of an animal that looks nothing like that in the wild, and a picture of a yellow tang with an elephant's head photoshopped onto it. I'm so glad she seems to have forgotten my email in recent years, either that or chain emails became less common.
I participated in chain postcards, but it was done in a way that you are sending one and recieving one, and at least for me it really worked as planned! But the main difference seems to be that noone was trying to get a lot participating a little, it was just an honest exchange.
MLMs are AWFUL. I have had a few reps offer to “pay” for me to start while I was on my maternity with my son (context: next to 0 income, single parent, relying on my mother for help until I could return to work and getting a small stipend from TANF). Like no. Stop.
As a legit small business owner these people have such balls. A few years ago a really good friend of mine from college became a Isagenix hun... she is no longer my friend. Oh I forgot to note this: My Mother has lupus and does very well with it. She is on a lot of medications that are life saving. Well this college friend legit told me that Isagenix could help her, that my Mom could go off her meds I hit the roof.
Re: Chain Letter One of my favorite songs is “Chain Letter” by Billy Jonas on his album “Time Has Come” He sings about the chain letter curse, but instead of sending on the actual chain letter, he burns it and sends positivity into the world living the evil in the flames. Go give it a listen.
Peppermint tea for stomach troubles. You can get peppermint tea in any supermarket, cheap as chips. Soothing & yummy and not harmful! Don't eat the oils, no no no.
Oh my god! My parents took me to a naturopath when I was a teen and she had me take lemon and peppermint oil in water too! I don't even remember what it was for; probably acne or asthma. I also don't remember if the woman was an oily hun or not, but her store was empty less than a year later. It was weird. She had me hold a jar of stuff in one hand and grip hers with my other, and if my grip weakened, I needed the oil or pill. Something like that. It was very woo woo honestly. Oh, and the pills gave me heartburn and burps that burned from that aromatic sensation. I'm an inconsistent pill taker, so I eventually stopped taking the pills altogether.
In 2011 I ended up in a shelter for women after getting out of an extremely violent relationship and one of the women there was selling Scentsy. I didn't know it was an MLM at the time, just that it was over priced and not something anyone there had any money for. She would intimidate the women into buying from her, it was horrible. I never bought anything, I just didn't have any money but it still bothers me how she preyed on the others using tactics that the abusers they escaped used.
I did the gift exchange once. Send your favorite book to the last person on the list. Bought the book. Amazon screwed up and sent it to me. I bought it again, $40.00 a pop. Don't know if she got the book. Never received a book. At least I got a second copy of my favorite book, The Count of Monte Cristo.
As a person who owns an ozone machine: it is for cleaning rooms not your body. It is supposed to be put in a room AFTER YOU REMOVE ANY LIVING CREATURE frim the room, plants included becouse OZONE IS HIGHLY CORROSIVE and WILL DAMAGE THE CELLS OF ANY LIVING THING. This is why ozone is used for killing bacteria, mould and small insects like bedbugs and ants. It is 100% used for killing do not get in contact with ozone gas, ever! Yes, sometimes water is cleaned with ozone (because it kills bacteria and such) but i would advise against doing this cleaning yourself at home and also! It only cleans water, it has literally no healing properties or benefits. Ozone is corrosive and toxic. Stay away from it if u can (aka if ur house is not infected with insects or mould)
I watch different mlm videos but I mainly watch this channel! I mean when I watched the drama about Lula Roa, people were making 10-50k a month?! It sounds soooo tempting, I really thought about giving it a try and just dip out after getting good money.
Story 3: I really does sound like it could have been an allergic reaction. I think the real issue is the “friend” or upline/rep’s nonchalant behavior of that happening. An allergic reaction can happen with any brand of makeup or product but near the eye makes it serious. She honestly should have stopped what she was doing and suggested immediate medical care. I’m glad that the brothers gf and her mom seemed to take it seriously.
And if it’s a phone call, just click “end”, you don’t owe them anything =D
Edit: some advice I’ve seen for how to speak to pushy people who talk over you and won’t let you get a word in edgewise- speak in a firm, polite tone in an inside voice (do not try to shout over them) and steadily say every word you had to say WHILE they talk over you. Then move on as if they heard and understood you, because you were talking and they should have been listening. You’re in control here. They’re desperate for something from you. Don’t give it to them.
"No is a complete sentence, and you shouldn't have to explain yourself to anybody." I needed that today! Thank you!
Yeeess!! Chubbyemu rep in the wild!
Women who are in shelters do NOT need more abuse...and MLM's are abusive!
That is disgusting. And criminal!
S
Why because you are a southerner?
Don't worry, you did the right thing and you have NOTHING to feel bad about!
@@mrtempleton5302Because southerners pride themselves on having manners. Have you ever heard of "souther hospitality"?!
Well, I'm not feeling too healthy after the Christmas period but probably better than chugging essential oils for two years...
Lmao
That was making me nauseous just hearing about it. 🤢
i’m dead 😂😂
And New Years😅🤣🙈
Sooooo you don’t wanna buy any from my friend who I told to get lost after pitching to me for the third time last week? Keep in mind she claims they’ll help me not need my feeding tube to keep me alive anymore 😂 I told her get lost with that crap
It’s definitely fine to be firm when someone is disregarding your comfort. Remember that you’re not being rude. They’re being rude. ❤
I swear just when you think those huns can't go any lower. MLM = Minimal Level Morality 😡
I actually use it less than my other lip products and I don't feel like I must use it or that my lips are developing some kind of withdrawal 😅
That whole claim was just so weird...
Same. She was a teacher so maybe that's where it's coming from
Yeah I have like no experience with MLMs. I found her randomly and I’m obsessed because of her voice and the way she does her videos. Any and all of the other anti MLM UA-camrs , I can’t get into to. I can’t handle it. I just can’t . Especially I think the most popular one
@@kadeelacayo4806 oh i agree with you, other ant mlm youtubers come off very snarky or angry from what i've seen
"
Lmao
What the heck 🤣🤣🤣
OMG can you imagine 🤮
😂
🤣🤣🤣💩
Yes, thank you for emphasising the fact that being successful in an MLM is ONLY possible due to exploitating the down line.
How many times must we say this. Don't ingest essential oils.
That my fav murder quote reminds me of the crime junkie saying” Be rude. Be weird. Be mean. stay alive. “
1. You don't need to apologise if English isn't your first language, you should be proud of yourself for knowing more than one language 💕 (I'm still working on not telling people "Sorry, my Swedish is bad, can we please talk English?", but then remember that since my professors were able to understand me, others should too 😅... but just FYI, English isn't my 1st language either 😅😂)
2. They had ordered like 1kg of it which has just been lying around for like 2 years before getting thrown out
Probably Ilex vomitoria or something like that. Nothing that has an emetic effect is really safe to use without expert supervision.
As a recovering people pleaser, saying no, haging up, or walking away is scary...but also so freeing!
The recovery story boils my blood. She was definitely violating some principles it’s not allowed. That’s a new low.
🤣🤣🤣
What a lie.
I can lose several inches off my waist by slouching and pouching first, then standing straight and sucking it in. So meaningless.
I was shocked when I found out people were ingesting the essential oils. I thought they were just using them as aromatherapy.
After hearing “the scam ends with that person, I feel like “the scam ends with me” is a new merch idea for you 😂
Love this idea!!
Sounds like the title of a Colleen Hoover book lol
I'm going to save this one for when I go to bed. Somehow it's very calming to listen to you while trying to sleep. And entertaining too.
I just sat down with a crochet protect and a cuppa, couldn't be happier to see a new Hannah video! 😄
I was really proud of myself a few years back when I convinced a friend to back out of a “book gift circle” at a time she was going through a rough time and wanted to provide for her kid. Anyone can fall for these unrealistic promises.
You're a good friend
I almost bought into that mini-pyramid scheme thing with books! Someone had to explain the "running out of people IN THE WORLD" thing before I stopped
The Anti-MLM movement really Highlights the idea that knowledge is power. MLMs depend on their victims not understanding the scheme.
I also find it helps me when I do Kind of a goodbye: "I've told you what I think, I am Not interested, Thank you goodbye", and then IMMEDIATELY hang Up, basically as a Part of the Last sentence, with No breath in between, No Chance to chime in, No waiting for a Feedback. It makes me feel Like I said more of a normal goodbye instead of a hangup.
Ingesting...oils...two years? Goodness, that's a most unhappy digestive tract T_T
The chain letter one 😂 I remember doing this with stickers via snail mail as a kid. I never got my 36 packets of stickers tho 🥺😂
Hannah bopping zeke’s ears had me feeling like the grinch when his heart grows
It works targets drug addicts/recovring people
How are these companies not sued so much more for their awful “health” claims which could potentially kill you?
I had norovirus for about 2 days over Christmas day, sounds like I had the YL oil drinking experience 😀 hope story 2 doing better
Just what I needed while washing dishes. 😁😁😁
At this point - clicking your video notifications are a reflex haha - happy Monday
Re: Chain Letter
One of my favorite songs is “Chain Letter” by Billy Jonas on his album “Time Has Come”
He sings about the chain letter curse, but instead of sending on the actual chain letter, he burns it and sends positivity into the world living the evil in the flames.
I remember chain letters lol LETTERS before emails were a thing .
