    I found the disc a million times easier than the cup. Messier removal is a small price to pay (at home) for ease of insertion and comfort.

      I’m a first time user of both. Currently I’ve only used the flex disc and the Saalt cup (small, firm). With the cup, I felt pressure against my bladder a few minutes after thinking it was all good. I’m going to try the Nixit disc next. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try the softer Saalt cup. If not, I’ll have to keep using the non reusable flex disc. We shall see!

      Plus you can empty it into the toilet before taking the whole thing out. None of the bare down, break the suction fiddling you get with cups.

    Cups don’t work for me. So I went to CVS and picked up some discs made by soft up, and holy moly! They are amazing and that brand is affordable. Much easier for me and less painful than a cup. 10/10 I recommend trying a disc! They are disposable so that’s a down side but this video is super helpful for reusable discs!

    I’ve literally tried them all, but the disc is my favorite. It’s more comfortable, causes less cramps, doesn’t push on my bladder, isn’t painful or difficult to remove and it is self emptying. I have had far fewer leak issues with the disc than the cup for sure. I am so excited that flex now has a reusable disc option. It’s also nice to know that if I need a disposable disc to throw in my purse or whatever that I have that as well. The disc is a game changer for everything.

    • @spraycandy01
      @spraycandy01 4 роки тому +2

      I agree 100%. I have a cup and a disc and I’ll switch them out depending on the situation. For example I prefer wearing the cup at work because I’m moving a lot and it’s more secure and then the disc at home because it’s more comfortable and convenient.

    • @monkiram
      @monkiram 4 роки тому

      @@spraycandy01 I'm debating between a cup and disc. What do you mean the cup is more secure? Does the disc leak more?

    • @spraycandy01
      @spraycandy01 4 роки тому +5

      Momera In my experience, the disk DID leak more than the cup but that was only because the disk was too big on me. The cup is more of a one size fits all and there’s also more on the market from different to get the right fit. It also uses suction to stay in place whereas the disk you kinda just tuck in. I find if I bear down too hard while wearing the disk if I’m lifting something or using force, it’s enough for my pelvic muscles to push it out of place. It also gave me a lot of issues with cramping because it was too big and would cause me to bloat. I’d never been so bloated in my life I felt like a balloon about to pop, it was soooo painful. After watching this video however, I tried the smallest size lumma disk and it works amazing. I actually like it better than the cup. It does stay in place and even though it’s smaller, I can still keep it in for 10-12 hours. It’s also easier to pop in and out that a cup and doesn’t make me bloat more than usual. So it definitely depends on the brand and size of whichever one you’re getting. If you have a high cervix, they recommend the bigger sizes and then if you have a lower cervix, they recommend the smaller one. It does take some experimentation but the good thing is, most of these brands have a three month full refund policy so you have a little room to try different things if anything. I also recommend wearing a pad or a reusable pad or period underwear just in case there are accidents or you put it in wrong at least until you get the hang of it. Hope this helps, good luck ❤️❤️

    The nixit has been life changing for me! It's honestly worth the price. I bought one at the start of the pandemic (finally took the leap and got over my fear lol) because all my local stores sold out of tampons the week my state started lockdown. I've taken this time to try a cup as well, and the disc has worked far better for me; zero leaks and I get more comfortable with it every time I use it (as easy as inserting a tampon now). Hadn't ever had a leak free period before using a disc and couldn't recommend it more!

However, I don’t like how it feels when inserting. It almost hurts. I also am not a fan of the shape and inability to easily clean. I figured a quarantine is the perfect time to test new menstrual products. lol My experience with the cup was AMAZING! The ONLY problem was I was getting a full cup every four to six hours. I don't really want to be emptying it so often in public but at home is perfectly fine. So I thought I would order the Lumma Unique in Large. The had a flash sale that day and I got two for the price of one. Today is my first time using a disc and this video already got me feeling good about it. Thank you so much for the trials and tribulations of trying new things for the rest of us. You are SOOOOOOOOOOO appreciated. The realization that if toilet paper becomes impossible to get what happens if tampons are the same.... spurred me into action. So I finally decided to do what I had been considering for a while. My first thought was to save on waste for the the good of the planet but I was not truly motivated to do it... then I had to wake up at 5 am just to get to a store to buy TP and it was scary. I have an 8 year old son and a four year old daughter, they need momma all the time not me stuck to a toilet because there are no tampons left. LOL So I did it and I will never go back. I mean that's definitely a reality! I usually use cloth pads, and I'll continue to use them. They're comfy and feel really good right out of a dryer because I get very achy. But I only get two hours at best out of them and that isn't even because they're not high capacity, I just have a quick and gushy flow. 3 hours is PUSHING it. 4 hours would allow me to change in the middle of a shift at work and at the end, which would definitely be an improvement!!

    I purchased a small box of disposable discs a few months ago because I have always had abnormally heavy and painful menstruation and wanted to try and find a better alternative for having to double up with a super tampon plus a heavy absorption pad, which I was certain wasn’t helping with my cramps. After two months of looking at the box across from me in my linen closet as I went thru my normal “period routine”, I woke up this morning having started my flow and finally without thinking grabbed one, put it in and went about my morning. Now I must say, before I bought them I looked into I just a tiny bit and the “beginner” fears kept me from taking the plunge and using them. I did it the way I do everything and just pretended as if I were a pro and had been doing it for years, and start off with the upmost confidence to try and avoid the new-bee mishaps and hesitations. Like everything else I do that way, it went well and so far have been having a good experience. After I put the first one in I immediately went to the internet and started researching. I’m now looking into reusables and can’t wait to buy my first one! I found that I have gotten the most useful information from these particular videos, thank you! I first tried multiple cups, since people said it was so easy, but none of them worked for me. Even folded up, they were way to big and were painful to insert. And even the one or two times I was able to insert it, I couldn't make sure it was open all the way (since I barely got the cup in and definitely wasn't getting a finger in beside it), and they were painful/hard to take out. Then I discovered the disposable discs and it was so easy, I wish I knew before I wasted money on the cups. I do have to say though that the Flex reusable disc was the best for me since the rim height was similar to the disposable. I tried the Cora and Saalt discs, but the rim heights were too high which made it painful to try and insert. Just wanted to save people some time and money incase they have the same problem I had.

      I tried Nixit because my cup was putting pressure on my urethra like you described and I wanted something that would sit all the way up at the cervix, out of the way. It was so soft, such a nice material - and way, way too big for my anatomy. I ordered a Lumma in small because the Nixit felt so huge and ridiculous, and while I probably could get away with a medium one, the small works beautifully and I have no regrets. Now I know that it wasn’t leaking because it wasn’t set right but instead was auto dumping. They should really put that in the instruction pamphlet in the box. Such great info especially the visuals. I’m 20 now and started using cups at 14. I liked them for all the benefits but realized my monstrous cramping wasn’t worth trying to get a cup in every month. And by the time my body didn’t mind me fidgeting with a cup in there it was already the end of my cycle. Fast forward a couple of years to last september I bought Nixit. The Nixit Cup was a beautiful introduction to the world of menstrual discs. Just when I thought the stereotypical "cup" was the only option, I found Nixit. * Everything was perfect. Until I used it. Inserting was not a problem, nor was "tilting downwards" to place correctly in the fornix, a place I personally have never explored or knew existed. I absolutely love how soft it is and the softness actually helps. I strongly believe the flexibility of the cup should never ever change as the fornix doesn't flex or contract the same way the vaginal canal does. What could definitely use a little tweaking is the diameter and overall size of the cup. The thing is, the firmness (or lack of firmness) is a very useful trait but can only go so far if you have a small fornix. The cup is very malleable and flexible enough to fit in a *slightly* small fornix but I personally was only willing to push it so far before I felt like I tore straight into my rectum. I left it in where it could fit and on the first try, I felt absolutely nothing which is very encouraging and different from other "cups". Since cups reside in the canal you have length, width, and firmness to worry about. Then after that, you have to make sure you are inserting properly or its very uncomfortable. As a virgin, I think I am especially very sensitive down there so all the fiddling wasn't really for me. With the Nixit it, the insertion was so simple and easy. Even on my first try. My only problem came from the fornix issue. I have a very prominent pubic bone but a small fornix. The edge of the cup would push on the skin of the bone, like tug or drag it a little almost because my fornix wasn't large enough to fit the whole cup (even squished) so although there was no pain, there was a weird indescribable discomfort. I tried to keep it like that for a while but the dragging of such delicate skin was beginning to cause me discomfort. It also honestly left me unsettled thinking of how irritating it must be and how it must look on the inside with the skin being pushed (or pulled whatever) in such an unnatural way. While taking the cup out I made sure to dramatically keep it tilted in the same direction it was when I inserted not even to prevent spillage because I was in the comfort of my own bathroom, but to avoid it bumping my cervix which hurts. I don't know if it was the first or second time I tried the Nixit but it did happen, It grazed my cervix and it wasn't disturbingly painful but I still felt it nonetheless.
    * Overall I my fornix may be the issue. It may be on the smaller side and this cup has made me want to look into menstrual discs and mentally am more excited to try other versions. Maybe sometime in the near future I’ll try the lumma medium or small.

    I must be a weirdo. I havent gotten a cup yet because I used soft discs for forever now and a cup seems complicated and messier.
    Now that they have reusable discs I'm trying to figure out which one I want to try.
    Ps incase people don't know but your healthcare flex spending account covers period products now.

    Is their anyway we can purchase one of those clear female anatomy models? If so, where? It would be very useful in teaching young girls.

      I don't know about that exact model, but if you google "clear female anatomy models" there are companies that supply doctor's offices, etc.

    I just got my Lumma discs (medium & small. They had a buy one get one sale!) I’m excited to try them! I tried the soft cup and it gave me cramps (I never get cramps) so I’m hoping for these lummas to do the trick!

    Something I just want to mention bc the video did not: since the disc is not in the canal area (correct wording?) and closer to the cervix, it does not get ~squeezed~ like a tampon or cup does. This is actually why I chose a disc bc a lot of my cramps come from that area and the pressure built by the tampon. My cramps have nearly gone away since using disc. This obviously isn't the case for everyone, but it was a deal breaker for me!

    I like the flex disc because of the way to break the suction. Instead of needing to pinch you pull a tab at the bottom. IMO it’s easier and less scary

    I just went from pads/tampons straight to disc. My first day, my first try... and no leaks!!! It's not that hard, and I think it's possible to remove it almost mess free, I'm slowly getting there. Just try different things. Don't be afraid to try it even if you never used a cup. I find the cup to be so complicated with the suction and the size and the folds, so I never tried it.

    I have a box of old Instead SoftCups that I bought years ago. I've been using the regular cups (Diva and Lunette) for about 12 years now, but I kept the box of Insteads... honestly, for period sex, lol. However, neither my husband nor myself liked them... so the box is just sitting there, unused. We used to use a diaphragm as my form of birth control, so I know we can deal with somethin' "in there", we just didn't like the Insteads (now they are named Flex Cups). That said, I'm really interested in getting the Nixit for my intended purpose. I know it's the most expensive, but the double rim and the softness of the rim sound appealing to me. Great video!

    I wanna see a review of the reusable flex disc!

    I am a lover of the FemmyCycle menstrual cup but hate that they don't have a bigger size for extra heavy flows other than 'regular'. I have tried the NixIt and had a horrible time trying getting it inserted properly by the softness of the rim. The Ziggy on the other hand when it first came out, you couldn't tell the front from the back and I personally would need to lube the front (whatever side I thought was the front) for it to insert. I'm glad they have now made it clear which side is the front and which is the back from so many customer complaints. As my go to is the FemmyCyle I cringe when I see that theirs are out of stock quite often on Amazon. I'm excited to try the Lumma and see if it'll be easier to insert/remove and if it's a better option for women with a heavier flow.

    Personally I used discs first and they have always been easier to use compared to the cups I’ve used- it’s what I recommended my friends do and they had a similar experience so for anyone concerned I actually think the discs are worth trying if you are starting out, it’s my go to for my period

    I have always been a pad person, only used tampons once or twice, and fully switched over to reusable a couple years ago. I had been considering a cup for those few occasions occasions I want to swim or anything. I ended up getting the Ziggy 2 on impulse while on sale because I like the pros for it vs a cup. Haven't yet had a chance to use it but looking forward to it next month.

    Haha I’d say the cups are more advanced than discs imo. Figuring out the suction was the worst!

  • @JellyBean0776
    @JellyBean0776 4 роки тому

    The firmness... I think I have to disagree with firm being easier and feel compelled to share in case anyone else could learn. I'm still new to reusable but I immediately noticed the softness of the nixit helped. Hated the cups and was ok with a the flex. I liked the flex but it seemed to dislodge often enough that I wasn't comfortable wearing it to work. The nixit, feel like that softness and size help it to conform to my body and stay. I accidentally had to wear it to work my first day wearing it ever and after a 16 hour shift (I know... but I was afraid to take it out my first time at work and had to stay late suddenly) it was good the entire shift!!! I did check it several times and it was a huge mess to figure out how to get out (easy and mess free after the first time) but very happy with it! Feeling around, I think it really did come down to the softness! Had big enough diameter and softness to just wedge itself where it needed to go. One cycle and I've already ordered more.

    I imagine the disc is better than a cup for camping. We camp and fish a lot and just go out for day hikes and outings. I can't rely on the cup as I don't always have access to running water to rinse, or to have clean hands for removal. I've used a cup for a couple of years but am considering trying the disc. For super heavy flow, I imagine it's less work. With a wild toddler that doesn't always behave for long bathroom breaks, I think the self empty would be amazing!

  • @elemonade
    @elemonade 4 роки тому +3

    I don't like the self empty thing because I don't like to have to fix it and get messy while I'm in public places. It's just really disgusting. I prefer the cup because it stays in place no matter what until you are ready to remove it.

    • @Crabby-Abby
      @Crabby-Abby 4 роки тому +1

      It might not self-empty for you, it depends on your anatomy. I haven't tried reusable discs but the softcup/flex doesn't self-empty for me. You might try the disposable ones to see if you like it before investing in a reusable one :)

    As a new Ziggy user, lube was key for me. When I would wash the disc and try to reinsert, it was having the "dry tampon" kind of effect. KY to the rescue!

    Thank you for this. Thats whats needed. Specially the part about the cervix height. I've been trying cups for about 9 months and they ALL leak (6 dif cups). So i was hesitating about the disc because of the mess to remove but its better then pads im sure. As long as its leak free I'm in. Gonna probably buy the Lumma large,but I'm thinking about buy it in Brazil and getting it shipped here (im getting other things shipped) I thinks its gonna be a lot cheaper specially with the dollar rate right now. Anywayz,thanks again ;-)

    I have a crazy heavy flow. I can’t go 10-12 hours without changing ☹️ baby wipes are a public bathroom life saver.
    Got a few moments into the video and a few comments read - left, went to check out lumma.
    They had a sale. I’ll be the proud owner soon. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
    Lumma had size options. Love that.
    I have a ziggy. It leaks. It’s not full. It just leaks randomly. 🤷‍♀️. Hoping. For a better experience with lumma.
    Have several cups. They are great, but don’t hold enough. Super heavy flow. They fill up and overflow within half an hour. It’s stressful.

    Tampons and cups always leak for me when I’m heavy, I have a slightly tipped uterus and a super strong pelvic floor. I tried soft cup and I loved it but when I sat the blood like shoots out, self empty thing I guess but like dang it’s annoying if I sit and I’m not peeing :(
