  • Disney had a unique way of beginning their movies from 1953 to 1983 with a 4 second fanfare of music and the Buena Vista logo. Some were simple, some complex. Most were different, but some were repeated. Here is presented most of my collection in chronological order. I have a few more, but would have made the video more than 10 minutes.

    The music from "Nikki, Wild Dog of the North" is also heard at the beginning of early 30's Mickey Mouse cartoons on "Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume 1." Also, the music from "Blue Men of Morocco" was also heard on "People and Places: Disneyland, U.S.A."

    On "Swiss Family Robinson," the logo is so small. Yes, I know it's in CinemaScope.

    Thank You for posting this compilation of Buena Vista intros. Truly! these were my favorites before watching a Disney movie. And i'm so glad that Disney/Buena Vista Home entertainment acknowledges the logo with their features on DVD and Video. You that posted this, is highly ingenious. I truly commend you.

    I heard the tympani drums one with "First Aiders" (on the WDT Pluto 1 DVD) and the Toyland one with "Pests of the West" (on the WDT Pluto 2 DVD).
    And they also kept the Donald In Mathmagicland BV title when that was released on the WDT Donald 4 DVD, released in 2008.

    Yes, the drums (kettledrums or timpani) was used among the most often for cartoons; however I think the one used for "Son of Flubber" was used more. With what Pluto cartoon did you hear the one from "Babes in Toyland" with?

    At 5:33, the "Follow Me, Boys!" BV tune was present on that movie's DVD when I rented it through Netflix a few weeks ago.

    Actually, I forgot that "Switzerland" had a different BV fanfare; and there are some of the People and Places that seem to have disappeared, like "Cruise of the Eagle." I have most of the series on video and most of the BV fanfares are the same. It is interesting to note that the People and Places fanfare and title music was put on the beginning of "Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates" for its foreign release.

    @RandomGenericComment I am afraid there was no music on the Buena Vista for "The Fox and the Hound." I call those "silent" buena vistas. This video does not include any "silent" Buena Vistas.

  • @8to16to35
    @8to16to35  15 років тому +1

    Yes. Those are still unique, but not as much as those with music - to me at least. My next video, Disney RKO and Buena Vista Movie Intros will have some, but not all, of the silent ones.

  • @Kartoonkid95
    @Kartoonkid95 15 років тому +7

    Yeah, but "Lady and the Tramp" and "Sleeping Beauty" had custom logos. "Swiss Family Robinson" had the reagular background and font. That's what I mean by 'so small.'

  • @Kartoonkid95
    @Kartoonkid95 15 років тому +3

    Some BV logos are completely silent like...
    "The Fox and the Hound" (1981)
    "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983)
    and various classic cartoons rereleased in the 50's and 60's.

    I included "The Black Hole," "Condorman" and "Tron" in DISNEY RKO AND BUENA VISTA MOVIE INTROS. Was there something else you wanted? I do plan to make a video with the BVs from 1978 and Mickey`s 50th birthday.

    One thing I've never understood is where those (and other) reissue prints were being shown. Were they playing in theaters during the '60s and '70s with these feature films? I can't think of any other purpose those reissue prints would have been made for, because as far as I'm aware the shorts had almost no television life (outside of cut-and-paste versions on Wonderful World of Disney) until pretty much the 1980s.

  • @8to16to35
    @8to16to35  15 років тому +2

    I think that Disney just reused the music for "Nikki;" though probably rerecorded it. The same music was used for other films released that time. All of the People and Places movies have the same fanfare, except the first: "The Alaskan Eskimo." That will be in my next collection - DISNEY RKO AND BUENA VISTA MOVIE INTROS that I hope to publish by tomorrow night. The complete list of the People and Places series can be found in The Disney Films by Leonard Maltin or The Disney Encyclopedia.

    I have a friend that I met online several years ago who also enjoys the Buena Vistas, and he sent that to me. I`m not sure how it got it, maybe from TV; but that doesn`t make sense. He also gave me 3 or 4 others that I would not have if it wasn`t for him.

    It seems that the aspect ratio changes from film to film depending on the process in which it was filmed. If compared to "Lady and the Tramp" and "Sleeping Beauty" and others in widescreen, they might be as small or bigger.

    It's interesting that Disney, which was masterful at branding, never created or used a standard musical theme for the Buena Vista titles that opened all their films. But I guess the Disney name was the most important part, and Buena Vista wasn't significant enough to warrant its own music.
    Still...the very first thing on the screen is important...at least I think so.

    "Cool! Why don't they still show the Buena Vista logo in the new Disney films of today?"
    Buena Vista was formed to distribute Disney stuff after Disney broke ties with RKO in 1953. Until Eisner took over in the mid-80s, Disney was still a small independent, and wasn't considered one of the majors. Since it's become a giant, "Walt Disney Pictures" now has the high profile and resoures to handle their own distribution, although technically it's still done by Buena Vista.

    Do you have the BV for "Sword in the Stone" that is not the traditional blue background? It must have had the more modern BV for its rerelease in 1983. I`m sure the BV would have been the same as the one on "Winnie the Pooh and a Day For Eeyore."

    Disney is inconsistent. The video for "Lead" has a differnt BV logo & no music. I have video of a 16mm print of "Return" with the psychedelic BV. I also have an intro celebrating Mickey`s 50th birthday. My guess is that all 4 movies from 1978 would have been the same & the psychedelic logo used with the intro. So the psychedelic BV must have been for the 50th anniversary year only.
