      You know I was having a bit of a bad day but I've just read your comment and it really has put things into perspective. You are completely right and I now feel humbled, silly and feel better in myself and about my life. Compared to these testimonies and their life experiences I live like a queen. Thank you for your comment, it has helped me so much.

    Back in the mid to late '70's, I worked construction for my Dad.We were working in an apartment complex that had a fairly large number of Jewish people living there. This was in Indianapolis, Indiana, in an area where there were several Synagogues. We were working on the roads, getting them ready to be repaved. It was summer, and the temps were over 90 F. Hot, hot, hot. An older lady, probably early to mid seventies, came out to us, and with a look of sorrow in her eyes, she said, "You young men look so thirsty...", and had a pitcher of ice water and some glasses for us. She also had a faded tattoo of blue numbers on her arm. A survivor of one of the Concentration camps. Probably either Auschwitz or Bergan- Belson. The other guys on my crew didn't recognize the meaning of the tattoo. As a somewhat serious student of WW11, I did. When I explained it to them, there was dead silence for several minutes. This woman, who had gone through more hell than most people would ever experience, had compassion on us. I suspect that seeing us out there brought back memories of her "Work details", and touched her heart. I pray that she received the peace she deserved.

      When my mother was a teenager in the 70's she used to work on tobacco farms. She said her favourite farm was owned by a family who always provided their hired hands with refreshments and a full lunch that they would lay out on tables near the house. No other family she worked for did that, and the cost was never deducted from her wage. She said this family had come from Hungary (I believe it was Hungary) after WWII and during the war they had all been interred in forced labour camps. They were not Jewish and were not sent to the death camps, but they performed slave labour in these work camps. I think that's why they valued their workers so highly and treated them so much better than surrounding farms.

    my grandmother told me that after the war she worked in a bookstore in New York city and that she had met or observed several people come through who had been tattooed on their arm with the numbers. she saw young people and older people alike. i will never forget what happened nor will i forget the humanity of the survivors. its our duty as the new generations to learn this history & speak to our older relatives about this time so we can make sure this will never happen again and so we can know the warning signs of fascism. my grandmother is all i have left of my grandparents but she has so much wisdom. i wish i would be able to speak to my great greatparents about their lives in Germany.

    It used to really disturb me that they named a commando after my country Canada. But then after watching many of the survivors testimonies, I realized most of them survived because they had worked in Canada, where they got better food and better treatment. they were able to steal small items to be traded for food, etc and they had better clothes and footwear than those who didn't work there. They were able to survive the death marches better.

    It's far to easy to "hate" a group, but I find it unimaginable to hate any individual person without great cause. A long list of reasons could be given for hating Jews, but how could you possibly hate any single one of these fine human beings. Hate is a powerful poison, and I think it poisons the "hater" more than the "hated"... Let us NEVER forget and May God Bless Israel!

    2/2 I saw little old grandmas weep for their loved ones and grandpa missing body parts. I saw very educated women sceaming in the night crying for their mothers and a blind women yell all night for fear of what she could see only in her minds eye. I don't know about numbers and stats, but I know what they experienced was real. I saw their wounds and listen to their lives and saw the pyschological impact on thier minds. Talk to a few. You will know in your heart what words can't express.

    Klaas good observation. They did have the blue ink tatoos on the arms. We had over 100 patients in the home and the surviors had all different types of exprience. Some women were tested for reproduction and had scars and marks thier breasts. Some were blind from the eye test conducted we also had some who had demenitia that would relaspe back to the events.
    Our center encouraged us to talk with the residents who lived there so we know about their lives. I would watch them as the speak ...

    It sounds like the 1st interviewer is Australian. Reminds me of going to stay in Melbourne beachside suburbs- Black Rock - school holidays from our farm in late 1960s-70s. There used to be a lady who rode her bike around & fed the cats & was known as the cat lady. But her name was mrs Pilinger. A very handsome woman, tanned n vivid green eyes. She wore a scarf over her head n she told us she lost her hair in concentration camps, it never grew back. Sge had a tattoo number. She told a story of having to bury her sister who died of typhus, using a sardine can to dig. I think she mayve been Hungarian. Im in my 60s now & still think of her

Thank you for your replys Klaas I think we will simply agree to disagree to the reality of the situation. Germany should still be ashamed. Actually, Europe should be ashamed. Global colonialism always involved mistreating native people for European gain. America did the same thing. Hopefully our young people will learn from history and learn to value all human life.

    It was actually a home for the aged and we did have some dementia units with patients that had bad memories. but many we had patients great memories and numbers branded on their bodies. They were not all from the same countries. Some spoke Hungarian, Spanish, Polish, German however they all spoke English and I cared enough about them to listen to their lives. It's not very difficult for me to believe no more then it's diffuclt to believe the slave trade in USA or the muder of Native American.

      Paul, please watch the verbal testimony of an escapee from that Era. She clarifies this misconception at 1:12:45, she states it was easy to leave, however you were not allowed to take ANY wealth or valuables with you, and every border was closed to refugees. The requirements for USA at that time, during the Great Depression, was a $5,000 sponsorship from a relative already in USA. Getting out was not a problem, resettling anywhere else was.

      Marci Sunshine people do that, not God. People who don’t truly follow God and understand his word do things like this. You can’t blame a religion. It’s the people that are doing it.

    • @marcisunshine18
      @marcisunshine18 4 роки тому +3

      Brittany yy actually..you are contradicting yourself. Yes people do this. People who twist their faith. There have been so many..too many..wars based on religion. I do blame people. People wrote all forms of religious writings..no matter what god or Messiah they believe in. If we all just believed in one world..one peace..one love..us. You. Me. No separation of religion just love then that would eliminate most wars period.

    • @brittanyyy8838
      @brittanyyy8838 4 роки тому

      Marci Sunshine you’re completely right that people who twist their faith do this. However if people actually followed God and His word the way that it is written, then this could be prevented because there would be no twisting of faith. It’s when people twist His word to fit their narrative or when people done have Faith in Him that this hatred happens.
