Revealing Narcissism In The Pentecostal Pulpit - S01E55

  • “Pastors”; the CEOs of Big Church business. And narcissism at its finest. Why is it always about them? Why do they get to be pampered and waited on, while also being harsh and mean? Justin and Tiffany discuss how NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) is rampant in the modern church’s leadership, and then contrast it to the eldership and shepherding of the New Testament church. You might very well be stunned at the gulf that lies between.
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. - Philippians 2:3 ESV

Thank you for helping me (& others,) identify narcissistic behavior. I've been attending a healthy church for 18 years now after leaving a UPCI I had been in for 15 years and there is a huge difference.
No shaming, no domineering behavior and never once has the pastor demanded or made a comment about a lack of response to their preaching/teaching.
    Great job.

So true! Lack of empathy, mad about stuff they required and created, you nailed it all!

I can call out my former pastor/preacher/bishop/elder/deacon etc on here. Is that fruitfull? Would that help bring anyone to Christ? Yes. It does.
Stay away from a upci affilated group. Read the WORD of GOD, get grounded in Jesus Christ!
Justin and Tiffany - exposing folk to the false doctrine of this cult, draws a line in the sand. Thank you for your work, helping the many people that have been caught up/deceived by these groups.

I left the UPCI about 7 years ago now. The pastor was very narcissistic and controlling. He was apart of my childhood and adulthood trauma. He knew my parents are abusive and him and his wife did NOTHING!! I was shattered from them, and my parents, plus other church members. I was never good enough, always in trouble, and supposedly rebellious. I had no support or help from any of them. I refuse to go to any church because of the crap I've been put through. Thank you soo much for saying and showing the things I've felt for over 30 years. Keep exposing these people!! God bless you!!

🙋🏾Yoo-hoo over here on the second row pew. I absolutely did not like going to church because of the treatment by elders and church folks. I seriously have been treated better by people not in church! I use to think to myself I sure hope heaven is not like church culture. Apparently your feelings are null and void once you get saved and your supposed to accept any treatment because...( We can't let that spirit of offense in.) 🙄

The narcissism trickles down as well. Many with a position or title in a church seem to exhibit this.

Absolutely fascinating!!! I was never pentecostal but have been curious about this subject of institutional narcissism in closed religious communities.

Matthew 23:15 - Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
I was the young proselyte in the upci, 1997. January 19. Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

I had to learn about narcissism from Tik tok since psychology had no place in the church. Found out it was because they didn’t want us to see how bad they really are. Our pastor we grew up with has the worst combo of narcissism and ocd. My friend said a devil worshipper at her job told her our pastor was “very selfish” and told her she would see it one day. Turns out that person was right.

But we UPC people have been conditioned to believe that the pastor is ultimately the head kahuna in all things. I’ve heard preachers tell people to not worry about anything just listen to what your pastor says and do it!!

We had a pastor who liked to use abject humiliation as an object lesson for Sunday morning services as a way to get people to submit. The whole i not gonna name names bbuuuttt... we were part of the ministry board. And we met twice a month for ministry/mentorship training. We were required to read the book the armor bearer. And it wasnt long after that that we left. The book is toxic!! That pastor had people cleaning their personal home and landscaping their personal property as part of serving in the ministry. Total abuse of authority. It got to a point that i would have panic attacks at church. They twisted scripture so out of context that they were dividing families intentionally to groom the younger more impressionable children. I still cant sit in a church service without anxiety.

We left a church we been to for 22 years because of a narcissist controlling pastor who’s only been there 3 years. We left this past Christmas and 5 months later, the pastor mails us a letter saying he took us off as members. That felt like a last ditch gut punch. We didn’t tell him to take us off roll or we have joined another church. I just about don’t want to join another church because I like the freedom of going where and when I want. We do go once in awhile to churches to have some fellowship with others.

1:02:17 it’s crazy cause sometimes they won’t say it out loud but what they will do is treat you poorly and publicly praise someone else for responding quickly. They will address you about it in a indirect way.

Unfortunately when my husband got saved he started listening to this nonsense and began treating me and our five children with such contempt. He’d have long late night 3am Bible readings yelling at us just like this. When I said enough is enough he’s playing these sermons all night on full blast causing us to have little to no sleep. I really had to fight these demons and fight isn’t over yet!

In my opinion (and I am unanimous in this) those kind of preachers weren't called by God to preach. They were called by their own egos .

You all are spot on. How about when they refer to themselves in the third person as "pastor", that one gets me everytime. I was raised in the UPC. I was raised in MI, N. Wilson was my pastor in the 70's and I was in that church until graduating high school in 1986. Moved to TN and left the UPC for good in 1997. I still have family in so I don't comment alot but I just wanted to let you know I appreciate your video's.

Is this the reason why some of them will preach against you listening to radio preachers

I know almost everyone of these men. You need to know their heart. These are some of the most humble and GOdly men. Some of these clips are taken out of context. Have Been in these FULL CLIPS. That one of bishop Holmes is so far out of context if pitiful. Non of them are that way. This world can take a 15 sec clips. He was encourage saint that might not have as much at their church. Bro Holmes was preach against narcissistic people. I'm sorry. I come from a very small church and bro Holmes with the church his size showed up when my son was born. I watch bishop pick up a young preacher walking in his car and he walked the rest way.
Bishop Holmes has washed my feet even when I didn't go to his church. I love these men bc of the men they are

The clips are not taken out of context, I can agree that Joel Holmes is humble. However he did say that If he can weld these young people to the “man of God” you’re gonna be alright. That leaves people open to a lot of failure. Men fall men fail. And we must be welded to Jesus Christ. He spoke nothing of Jesus in that clip he spoke of people being with “him” referring to Joel Holmes then he said those precious people won’t stay with him or his son. I was a part of this organization for almost 30 years. This is not out if context this is what it is. When your out of the bubble you can see it from the outside and see it for what it is. Great video great exposing what is being said.
