I just finished a 2020 YZ250X three months ago and love it. It has Hitliss, Apex head, Fisch estart, TBT suspension (Terry Webb in AZ), full Rekluse, Lectron carb, FMF pipe, silencer, Mako, Fasst bars, Trailtech fan, plastic, Trailtech GPS, graphics, lower and top end rebuild, steering dampener, Tusk wheels, tubliss and all the protection. Hopefully the wife never looks at the receipts!

@@highlandcycles So far, so good. I’ve only had it for about six weeks. Running stock stator so I charge the battery between rides. It works for me.
I have a 2020 yz250x with pretty much everything you do, except the estart! Been trying to talk myself into pressing the complete purchase button on their website 😭😭

Having come off of two completely custom built YZ250s and now riding a Husky TX300......I SOOOOOO miss my YZs. The TX is nice in some ways...but my YZ250s gave me a lot more confidence.

i know you like the RK tek heads, but this would be an awesome platform for a shootout for all the different options on the market (Apex, Phat, RK Tek, etc.). Selfishly, i just want to know if switching from the Apex head I'm currently running to RK Tek will be a noticeable improvement.
Nice! Can’t wait to see it all unfold, been thinking about a hitliss for my 250x, I’m with you on the electric start. Idk if it’s worth it in my eyes, I don’t think you can run a FWW with it although they claim running their stuff is comparable to a FWW
And I kept stock carb and did a Power jet mod by the same guy who puts out Hitlis. Works great!! I have the Fastway heel saver footpegs so I dont make my ankle worse. A few after market tanks and mods will fit with the estart but it gets tight to work on carb. Right now I just have stock tank on but put it back on for longer rides or races. Which hitlis did you order? Still up in air but will see.
Wide ratio trans, e-start, 300 big bore kit. The "perfect" bike.
Fisch Moto does a much better job than Panthera did, I think. Please consider it at least!

Put a 39.5 keihin on it, shave the head or get an aftermarket vhm or rk head, and of course a rad valve or just fiberglass dual stage reeds.

No panthera , Def the best Anne worst thing I did to my yz . I have 200hrs - lucky only starter motors

Why Yamaha refuses to take the few steps necessary and produce a factory 300...is a mystery.

There are 7 other brands that make 300s. Why would they do the same thing everyone else is doing?
Apex head, stock carb (apex jetting), black frame, no wrap arounds, flag type, restyle kit.

Cool man. I started riding on a yz x. It was badass but too much for me then I rode a Ktm and I’m hooked. Bulletproof bike though.
Rather than spend the money to build that Yamaha into a Ktm I just bought the Ktm.

NICE I have a 2017 yzx I picked up last fall and wrenched up this winter. Took it out for the first shake down ride yesterday. Can't wait to see how yours comes togather. Stalled twice thumb was looking for the button. Hope you try the e-start from the other mfg.

Hi Morgan! I owned a 2017 YZ250, so basically same platform and made it a bit more easier to ride for Motocross on slippery hardpack. Some of my mods may be a good base for the Enduro, maybe even take it a step further with some!
Engine: Lower compression head of the YZ250X or similar aftermarket products
Pipe & Silencer: ProCircuit Platinum 2 & stock silencer or ProCircuit 296, super predictable low end
Gearbox: 2nd and 3rd are way too far apart! I only used 3rd from the YZ250X gearbox as I didn't need the tall 4th and 5th, but you maybe want to use the YZ250X kit of (smaller) 3rd, (taller) 4th and (taller) 5th that is available as a set at Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. Especially if you gear it down and want your son to still keep up with the 6 speed gearbox bikes on fast sections.
Flywheel: Heavier for sure! I put the GYTR to not totally kill the two stroke agility. It's a good starting point and fits under the OEM ignition cover. You can always go Steahly & aftermarket cover later if necessary.
Gearing: Stock 14/50 is way too tall. A 13/51 is way better suited for trail riding. I even used it in motocross to ride in 3rd and 4th instead of 2nd and 3rd when I had the stock gear box with the big jump between 2nd and 3rd.
Rear wheel: 18 inch
Tire set: 90/90-21 front and nothing super wide rear, maybe 120/90-18
Handlebars: Personal taste, but I liked the stock oversized Protapers on mine ok, bend comparable to Renthal 602 Fatbars
Suspension: You know your guy ;)

I’d like to but not on this bike. This is an enduro race bike. It doesn’t even have a kickstand 🤘🏻😂🤣

Always heard the YZ was a great bike. Don't know what the engine is like but I put the optional thick head gasket on a 1998 Kawasaki KX250 which made the thing easier to ride in tight tough conditions, at least for me. Stay away from black plastic and such. Where I am it can looked trashed after one ride through the bushes and trees. Peace.
Lots of mods, because I don't know where to start! My 22 KLX300R is hated by the aftermarket, so I have no preferences on your build.
Buy a used sherco get suspension tuned for you.. ride it.
Of course Many of our local pros ride the yz250x. It is a great simple bike.
Although the 4 strokes are starting to make a stronger showing every year
I just built a 05 yz for desert racing.. I agree the Clark tank sucks I can’t wait to change it… with the e start you can’t run flywheel weight so I’d rather leave it kick start… I suggest wr trans swap if it hasn’t been done already, I ran both apex and rk tek head I feel rk tek is way better. I can’t wait to follow this build
Basically finished up my 2006 yz250 last month. The only thing missing is the fastway kick stand. Looking forward to this build good luck
first bike was YZ250 converted to woods bike. Thing was a weapon.
Do something different and contact Mitch at PC and ask him about a cylinder and head for low end power that would make an interesting video
Make it a 300 or if you can get one a ESR 325 kit if the cylinder is trashed anyway.
Love it! Following this closely. My last true dirt bike was a yz250x and I miss it. On a WRR now which is cool but not the same.

They have heavy duty parts compared to kx ktm but I like kdx220 200 just as much

Curious which one you got. Was considering desert but havent heard of any review on them vs woods. I already have a 2017 Husky TE 250 as my woods gnar trail bike.

My suggestions. Apex Racing head with MX dome, Apex racing jetting. GYTR heavy flywheel. Put a 250X stock pipe on it. They have really good overall power. 250X power vakve from 2024. The washer and spring setup on 2024 os more refined to help smooth the hit. TBT suspension. I put the triple from a 2010 YZ450F on mine to help with initial turn in. The closer offset in the triples helps. I would say the triples are a maybe sonce youre out in more open terrain than I am in the Ozark mtns.
Im interested how the Fisch moto estart works for you. I'm on the fence about it since ibe been racing a YZ250FX more than the smoker.
He's putting in the HITLIS doesn't need that powervalve setup

@@highlandcycles Anecdotal I know, I put a 13oz flywheel wieght on the 300 TPI and 8 months later the starter was shot
@@philipsmith6152 hmmm. It could add strain I guess initially but I doubt it. I’ve also seen lots of KTM starters fail. My 125 starter died at 50 hrs.
