YZ 250 is a great bike, what year is that one and does it have the Triple S suspension on it, would be nice if you could put some kind of headlight on it but that would require a re-wound stator, I built a 97 RM250 enduro bike and an upgraded stator to run a headlight and it was fairly cheap, it kind of looked like an RMX but a much better bike, it would be really nice if you could run the latest style of body work on it, maybe have the frame vapor blasted.
I built an 02 Steelie YZ325x complete with triples and forks off of a 14 YZ250f, YZ450f swingarm, ESR35 cylinder, Panthera e-start and a whole list of other goodies. While I still love the bike, the one thing that you can't get around is the 2 - 3 spacing on the gearbox of the X model. 2nd & 3rd is to close together, and 4th is a big jump when you're riding deep sand. Liked the standard gearbox better for tight single-track, but sucked on transfer roads. If only Yamaha would of came out with a 6 speed and factory e-start, they could of took a big chunk of the market away from the pumpkins.
Id sent the top end to tom morgan personally. Best 700 youll spend. Also, those ebay radiators are quite good. Super stout, mig welded and hold about 20% more coolant. People will bitch, but i promise they are way better than the cheesy OE. Ive used the win racing brand a few times and never a single issue. Perfect fitment too.
@@highlandcycles yeah, I get that. I never ran guards with mine, but they seemed to hold up quite well. For $100 i wasnt too worried about smashing them The extra coolant was worth it in my case.
@@highlandcycles I’d say you should do it and review it, but that’s a lot of money to try to test something, plus I’m selfish and don’t want to try it 😉
Definitely keeping YZ gearing. Mainly because it’s being built as a race bike and we like close ratios for that. I have a head coming but you have to stay tuned 😉
Kudos to you for working with your son on this instead of just doing it for him! Him learning from you is invaluable experience.
He has built motors and everything. My kids always get blown up bikes that they have to fix. Makes them take way better care of them.
YZ's are GREAT BIKES! About 20 years the same...not "cutting edge" but, pretty DAMN GOOD! Can't beat the easy parts avalibility.
Aren’t there certain years of YZ450f swingarms that people swap onto those? If so, maybe that’s a better solution to the swingarm problem…🤷♂️
In all honesty, it was kind of a boner-killer when I heard you were going to put an e-start on the YZ, so I'm super stoked you decided against it!
White boards are a must have, helps keep me on point 👉!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘💯
Just lace an 18in rim up show us how you build a wheel? It would be kool

It’s a 13
Love this series already!
Fix Ruth’s ride! She is a great mom and wife! Make Ruth Famous!!!!
Stay tuned!!!
Hope you can do a YZ e- start on another bike. Would like to add one to my yzx but would like to see a review from a trustworthy mehcanic first ?
I tried the Panthera and it sucked.

Awesome, keep up the good work …. lol 👍
For those with some hearing loss, can you consider lowering the volume on the sudden explosion of music?
I already did. I would recommend turning it down and turning on the captions
Been waiting for this, kept checking every few hours for the yz build since you first announced it
Cool stuff👍👍
If you get the 09+ yz250f/yz450f swingarm and linkage it’s a direct swap and saves about 2 pounds. Saw it in mxa or dirt bike magazine long ago.

My biggest issue with those is fitting BPD guards

@@panic-revv85 For sure.
Kids almost as tall as you now. I remember how tiny he was when he was dancing for one of the yz125 videos. Doing parenting right
Just weld up the bracket on the swingarm. Sop
I don't have the bracket though. If I had the bracket I would definitely do that.
@@highlandcycles doh! 😁
I love my white board and YOUR HOME GARAGE!!😁 Enjoyed the video.
Give the 250 away I'd love to win that machine
Up to the kid
@highlandcycles yep I see how much he likes the yZ it's not Much of a question. Lol smart kid
Are there even any other electronic start kits that aren’t panthera?
Yeah. There is a new one. Fische Moto I think

Looking forward to this series. Also looking forward to the KDX refresh.
great job again lad showing your son the ropes as well next video please
Should be awesome!
Have you considered, since I’m assuming a complete motor tear down, doing the 250x gearing and lower compression head?

Digging these videos. New editing styles etc…nice!
Gonna be a great bike 🤘
Barnett clutch basket
That’s a great idea
