Happened to me tonight. Optiplex 980 working fine, reboot and wouldn't post, numbers 3 and 4 light up, Googled it and found your video. Did exactly as you showed, took memory out and then back in and voila, it worked. Thank you so much for your video, you saved my bacon.

I got one of these old systems from a school a few years ago and had it sitting around. I tried booting it up and got a bunch of loud beeps. I reseated the 4 1GB memory sticks and just fired up the system without putting the DVD and floppy drives back in. Success! I reset the BIOS to defaults and disabled the floppy disk. I was able to boot from a Windows 10 USB and install. I realized that the DVD drive was broken when I put it back in so I just just left it and the floppy unwired just to cover the gaps in the front. So far so good.

This stuff is actually so simple. I’m amazed how many people are terrified to do it themselves and pay hundreds of dollars for someone else to do it.

I had the same issue and followed the instructions on removing the RAM sticks, power cord, etc etc and then replacing the sticks one at a time to eliminate the bad RAM stick or sticks. In my case it appeared that both sticks were bad so I put them aside and went about my day. Several hours later, I did the exact same procedure in the exact same order and voila! It booted to Windows! My guess is that there was still some electric energy hanging around and the several hours I spent away from the whole thing must have done the trick. Just throwing it out there, when the PC wouldn't boot I was perplexed because I had used it just a few days before.

The contacts become tarnished over time and maybe the second time you reinstalled the memory it finally made a good connection.

Another common problem you see with this type of issue is the keyboard being unplugged when you start the computer, preventing the OS from booting. You can change this in the bios settings on your computer, so if god forbid you forget to plug in the keyboard, you’re computer will still boot properly.

What does flashing amber power button and 3 and 4 mean for Dell Optiplex 790, I did some research and it said Memory Power Failure, but I dont understand because I tested with many pieces of ram and made sure they clicked, maybe the bottom is dirty or something.

@@jhx2321 At some point the age of the computer is a problem and it will give up it's ghost. My old intel motherboard died recently because the capacitors failed. I might be able to bring it back to life if I replace all the capacitors but these are the problems that happens with electronics as the components age. It is inevitable.

0:28 I did not get a beeping sound out of my computer either and as it turns out, it was a Memory/RAM Stick problem.
2:10 My SFF DELL OptiPlex 740 is the exact same on the inside of your Small Form Factor DELL OptiPlex 745.
P.S. I was completly shocked that my DELL did not suffer any Critical Damage considering how hard it hit the floor when it fell. Saidly though, I fractured my Ankle and I was out for at least Six Weeks because of how hard the Desktop fell on the floor AND onto my Left Ankle! My goodness the pain. . . That was serious. Oh, if you were wondering how this incident was so serious, here is the Truth. I did a Modification on the Side Panel of my Desktop a Few Years Ago by mounting my 17" DELL Monitor on it. Why? Well, why buy an All-In-One PC if you can Make Your Own? So, that is what I did. All WAS well until a Couple of Months Ago. After that incident, I did not want to see that Computer for a while. And just Today, I went solve that problem that I had with it. Turns out, for me at least anyway. That it was as simple as a Memory/RAM Stick Problem. The Error Codes that I got were (Solid/Stable Light) 1 and 3 as well as 3 and 4. The 1 and 3 Error Code that I got I think was the Second Error Code that I got and the 3 and 4 Error Code was indeed the Third Error Code that I got. Whatever the First Error Code I got I have got absolutely no idea what it could have been. None the less, for me anyway, (like I said before) it was, Luckily, Only a Memory/RAM Stick Issue.

Hi, It might be a memory stick problem also. The connectors get tarnished over time. If you carefully remove them and carefully rub the contacts with an eraser that cleans the contacts and reinsert the memory and reboot.
