You didn't mention that the ego has 2.5 times the energy storage though. The reason the ego batteries are so much bigger is because they have more cells. The dewalt batteries are 6ah at 20v while the ego batteries are 5ah at 56v. Dewalt is 108wh per battery (108 watts for an hour) for a total of 432wh or 432 watts for an hour. The ego batteries are 280wh per battery, for a total of 1120wh or 1120 watts for an hour.
To be fair I would still go for dewalt over ego (even though I'm actually a makita guy). I just feel like the video says "hey look 5 vs 6! and 6 is cheaper!"

If the comment from another is right the Dewalt fried a laptop and some other appliances. So the Dewalt is just for tools where the EGO can do both with longer run times. So if all you are going to do is cut and use a vac maybe the Dewalt is the right choice. I would buy the EGO over the Dewalt preferring run time VS just less money plus power outages the EGO huge advantage to power appliances.
Not to mention that pulling 3600w from those relatively small DeWalt batteries is going to absolutely punish them, leading to overheating and reduced battery lifespan. While the EGO has less peak power, it has far more total capacity to provide power for much longer, so long as you aren't running powerful tools that regularly trip breakers anyway, you will have a much more useful device with the EGO, as well as one that will not self-destruct its batteries.
I have the dewalt and I run it with the new 12 amps flex volt batteries and it runs my mini fridge for 8 hours, my small 110 v mig welder at 65 amps max for about 2 hours , my full size house double door fridge for 4 hours among other tools and appliances such as washer and drier. I love everything about it. I spend about 1400. 4 12 amps flexvolt battery at 250 each on sale and about 300 for the unit. Yes is more expensive than a generator but the portability with out noise and fumes is priceless.

Remember people in the video he is using old and weak batteries , as I mentioned before I’ve use this unit with 4 new 12 amps 60 v flexvolt so is a bigger battery than this guy is using. Yes I agree that Dewalt may not be good for sensitive electronics but for heavy duty tools with my set up is fantastic, like I said I run a small mig welder at 70 amps for a little bit welding thin steel so yes to me is well worth it to work out in the house fence or wherever for a quick small welding job where there is no electricity.
In the beginning of your video you provided stats on the Ego power station on 3000 W peak and 2000 W continuous. Dewalt stats were 3600 W and 1800 W continuous. The tile saw draws 1790 W and assuming the vac is 120v at 10.5a (I couldn’t see the model in the video but I looked up the specs of a similar model), therefore the vac draws 1260 W. All three motors are drawing 3050 W. Of course the Ego would overload, it’s drawing over the 3000 W peak that you provided in the video and it’s why the Dewalt started but overloaded half way through. Both power stations seem like fine equipment but it’s about applications. Ego will give you longer run times but if you need more than 3000 W but under 3600 W peak than your solution is Dewalt. But the Dewalt will overload because it cannot sustain the power demand.
Some things you forgot to mention in your comparison... The Ego with 4 5ah batteries has 3x the run time of the dewalt, and does not need all 4 batteries to run. You can hotswap the batteries when any start to get low. Or just but one battery, to make tolerance cost and runtime the same as the dewalt. The ego is a pure sinewave inverter, so it can run more that just motors, and with less heat buildup in your tools. The one thing thebdewalt does better on is it can change all 4 batteries at the same time, while the ego charges one at a time until they are all full. For your cutout test at the end, it you turned each motor on one at a time, the ego probablybwould have worked, as it has a much higher continuous power rating, but a lower startup surge.
Nice job on the comparison, but you left out one feature for the EGO. It is Pure Sine Wave AC and the Dewalt is Modified Sine Wave AC. Modified Sine Wave can damage sensitive electronics.
That is a HUGE difference. For strictly power tool/construction Dewaly is the way to go. BUT if you have any intention on other prepper/camping use, Ego should strongly be considered and is on price point for similar off-grid products.
If you did run time testing you'd see the Ego would last far longer than the DeWalt. Ego's batteries have far more capacity, and that's where the money is going. That power station will work with any number of batteries from 1-4. and you can also buy it as a kit with two 7.5Ah batteries for less money. No denying though that the DeWalt electronics can supply higher peak power. Impressive.
The dewalt is *6* amps only in 18/20 volt tools. It's actually 2 amp hours in a 60V tool. The ego is rated at 5 amp hours at it's 56v rating, if there was an equivalent 18.6v rating the ego batteries would be 15 amp hour batteries, hense the crazy size.

The ex-construction worker in me would go for the Dewalt but the current English teacher looking for a strong back up for the house would go for the Ego. Great video!!! A couple of years ago, I was able to purchase a Dewalt Power station (Bare Tool) for $199 (Black Friday sale). I then purchased 4 Dewalt 9 amp batteries for $500 for a total of $699... I have an EGO blower and that machine is awesome but the EGO power station is just too expensive. In my opinion, the Dewalt beats EGO...
Recently ordered the Dewalt power station, eagerly awaiting. Well aware of the differences between modifed/pure sine wave inverters. Certainly throughly enjoyed this real world, practical shootout. If only Dirt Bike magazine had this enthusiasm in the early 1970's. !
I am really surprised that dewalt out performed ego with those huge batteries, they've could have gone superior than the old dewalt. Question for you. Is it safe to use the dewalt for smart tv, router and refrigerator incase of a power outage like 1 or 2 hours?
The math noted in the other comments makes clear who would win the long runtime test. It is also why it takes longer for the EGO to charge. I have the 7.5Ah batteries and they would not modify the demo in the video, only the long run time. I have experimented with a 10amp greenworks detacher. One 7.5 amp hour battery on my EGO power station will do a medium sized front lawn. But four 7.5Ah batteries will last more than 4 times as long under the same load. I haven't had it long enough to know how much longer.
It's a little unfair to call the Dewalts 6AH, because at 60V max (54V really) they are 2AH. The EGO says 54V on it, so maybe it's 5AH at 56V, which would justify the huge size difference.
Had the Dewalt Power Station for 2 years now and running the 9ah batteries. To say the least it is an absolute brute and has powered so many things including be able to run the Hilti TE-3000 jack hammer in areas where there are no power outlets. Right now Blain's Farm and Fleet has the 2 pack 9.0ah batteries (DCB 609-2) for $209😲 that's an insane deal👍
Have the dewalt powerstation and love it. Tried so many ways to get power at jobsites....generator, solar, car batteries etc. The dewalt is so handy especially when you have 30 batteries lol. Makes it nice to always have power. The new Milwaukee is out and that SOB is $3500!!! and is only as powerful as the dewalt and takes special battery that most contractors cant use and dont already have! Stupid move for Milwaukee. I wish you didn’t alter the speed and volume of certain clips because I want to hear how much the devices are straining. Also, it’s not a fair test because the DE-WALT didn’t come with the Amazon basics adaptor so it can’t run three devices at a time unless you separately buy the adaptor.
I wouldn't expect there to be a difference with the tools that were used in this video but I would never plug my TV or computer into an inverter with a modified sine wave.
All you proved was that the DeWalt has a bigger inverter. The power of the battery is volts times amps (P=EI). The Ego battery is 56 volts, the DeWalt is 18V. You never tested to see which system lasted longer which is the an important parameter. People who don't know electronics shouldn't evaluate electronic equipment. We don't know the starting current of the devices or their wattage. Sure if you put a load on a device that's above its ratings it's going to shut down, what did you prove? If you plug a device that draws 20 amps into a 15 amp breaker the breaker will trip. I'm sure you meant well but that was horrible!
Can you run a refrigerator on the Dewalt? If so how long would it last you think? A couple things about the EGO i think people should keep in mind. 1) You dont have to buy one with batteries if you are using the tools already, the bare power station is 499. 2) He says the unti with 4 5 amp hr batteries is 1700, but you can also buy a unit with 2 7.5 amp hr batteries for 1300. Shop around is the point. :)
Awesome demo, I've had the DeWalt for 2 years now and love mine. That's pretty doggone expensive for the other unit. I'm glad I'm not in that platform. Happy holidays my brother
Overall the Ego does cost more BUT if you break it down by cost per watt hour the Ego is actually cheaper because the batteries are much larger and will therefore run much longer. The DeWalt was slightly better in these tests but IMO nowhere near enough to make up for the small batteries and lack of pure sine wave resulting in the possibility of damaging sensitive appliances. I believe the DeWalt also requires all 4 batteries and the Ego can run on only 1. I agree thought that for construction jobs DeWalt may be the choice but other than that Ego is tough to beat.
Math fail. You are comparing apples to oranges with the batteries. The Ego 5 AH batteries are 5 AH at 56V. The Dewalt batteries are 6 AH at 20V. Ego 5x56 = 280 watt hours of energy. Dewalt are 6 AH x 20 volts = 120 watt hours. That's apples to apples. #science
Great shootout! I have had my DeWalt DCB1800 for a couple of years now and It gets used mainly during power outages which can be frequent in the winter and has never failed to power any corded tool that I have used it with. The cost? Well, I have a brother who works for S/B&D so the unit was criminally inexpensive ($150Cdn) at his employee price. All of my cordless tools are DeWalt...can ya blame me?
Bottom line, in simple terms... The EGO is perfect for a weekend of camping or a temporary blackout at your house . The DeWalt is more for everyday contractor / construction use . Hence “ all the bells and whistles “

The ego batteries have a lot more capacity like almost 3 x and the watt hours are what shows that. Ego's got the 7.5 amp batteries as well and those are only the 5's. Ego wins in the battery generator world against dewalt. I don't care if dewalt can do 3 seconds of cutting before it shuts down and protects itself.
mike lucas careful, the dewalt fried my fridge in the camper.. and a laptop.. it was too late till I found out it’s modified sine wave, so sensitive electronics are at risk. Ego is pure sine wave so it’s better for camping and charging electronics. Dewalt is good only strictly for power tools.
@@mikelucas4247 It's not just amps. There is more power in 4 5 amp Ego batteries than 4 12 amp Dewalt batteries because Ego batteries are 56 volts vs 20 volts. Sounds like it has worked for you but it could cause damage.
@@mikelucas4247 If you are using the Dewalt Flexvolt batteries (20v / 60v) that just means that the voltage changes in the battery depending on the tool you use it with. When voltage changes the amps also change. 20 v with 12 amps or 60 v with 4 amps. Bottom line is that no matter what voltage is used the total power the battery provides is still ONLY 240 watt hours. The Ego 7.5 Amp battery has 420 watt hours and the 10 Amp battery has 560 watt hours. To my point Dewalt batteries fall far short of the available power in an ego battery which means less run time.
Great video. I love the side by side comparisons. One thing you missed was the conversion of battery capacity. Dewalt batteries are 6AMP at 20v (18v really) EGO batteries are 5AMP at 56v The EGO batteries should provide about 3 times the runtime of the Dewalt batteries. This runtime would be a great thing for you to test in a future video.
Yes Ego would be better. A lot more power with Ego and this video only used 4 5 amp Ego batteries. Throw on 4 7.5 or 10 amp batteries and there is no comparison in how long the run time would be.
Thank you for noting that if you are already on a battery platform it makes no sense to switch brands. I have a couple of EGO tools I use for my lawn service. I didn't buy the power station to be a power station. I have a gas generator for that. I bought it to be a battery charger. I already had batteries and was able to buy it as a "Bare tool" Saving money on the retail price. Having said that, I have not started my gas generator since having the EGO power station. It does everything I need except run my 110v welder on "High". If I am ever doing something that heavy I will still need my gas generator for that task.

I believe you're looking at this wrong first of all you're not doing an apples-to-apples comparison all you have proven is that they are rated for 5 amp hour or six amp hour respectively and have performed as such which anybody can read on them however from a engineering standpoint EGO power pack are designed to mitigate spikes in temperature due to their separation of cells and ventilation I believe that the longevity of these will be much better than DeWalt however it does have some faults specifically charging time however you could use egos rapid charger if you wanted to charge faster and of course the cost is much higher but I believe this is a far Superior product than DeWalt
For this application of just a mobile power unit perhaps dewalt is better suited for this with the lower cost which is tied directly to the lower 24V/6AH battery for a total of 480 WATT station. The EGO if loaded with X4 7.5 AH @ 56 V gives you a 1680 WATT, you can use really up to 80% of that so really a 1344 WATT power station which is 2.8 times the amount of power to the DEWALT. Obviously this has a lot more application to it then just a mobile power station for tools. You are correct in the end that DEWALT wins out for this usage. It's not true overall depending on other applications. Also if you decided to buy enough of the 6.0 AH 20 V DEWALT batteries to match the X4 7.5 AH from EGO, the price is going to be around 800-900 dollars for the batteries alone. Not too far now from EGO now.
Good video. Should have done the test with Ego’s 7.5ah batteries instead of the 5.0 as the 5.0 only allows for 1,000 watts and you don’t get the full 2,000 until you use the 7.5’s as it takes 42 or more cells to get the peak wattage.
Sorry have to say this if you read your comments at least the dewalt batteries you have are 6 amp hour at 20v but much less at 60v the ego is 56v at 5 amp hour that's why it's so much bigger that's one thing I love about these ego batteries I just wish the ego had a inverter that was a little smoother output but I cant say to much bout both I build my own portable inverters yes a lot more weight to them but I still would love to have one of those units for easy power

As a Tradie (Australian for Tradesman) I can just imagine how all those EGO flimsy bits / fancy electronics would fare on a work site after 3 years....... Plus not enough power for the tools I use, would last about 20 - 30 minutes when in use.
In general, EGO is better as it has pure sinewave and the total setup can cost bit less than Dewalt at similar capacity. It also has a lot more features. As of now, EGO is $999 with 2 7.5Ah, making total of 840Wh. For the Dewalt, about at the same price, total capacity would be 720Wh (About $449~$499 for the station + $270 for 9Ah two pack x 2) But EGO one couldn't start my sump pump as it required 28.5 amp (3420W) start. Dewalt one ran my sump pump for about an hour per 1Ah in a stormy night. So I am staying with Dewalt for now, until something better comes out. (Milwaukee MX FUEL one is unfortunately not an option as it's too expensive, and batteries are are totally new)

I am a plumber, I throw my DeWalt power station in the back of my van and it takes punishment. I can't say enough about my DeWalt power station. When I first did some threading with my power pony, I was super impressed that I was able to thread inch and a half galvanized piping and did not run out of power or overload. Badass

I was going to complain but it seams that there has been comments below about the pure sine wave and the difference between 20v and 56v. Pure sine wave inverters are bigger and a lot more expensive than modified sign wave inverters. This is a huge feature that was not commented on. I own both and the Dewalt inverter sets on a shelf as a battery charger. I burnt up my Minneapolis Blower Door $2500 with the Dewalt. I found out late that most capacitor start motors are not modified sign wave compatible. Practically everything is compatible with the Ego. I guess if you are just using it with power tools, drills and saws, the Dewalt may be the way to go. It was also not commented on is run time. The Ego runs for ever compared to the Dewalt. ********* Be sure your devices you plan to run will work on a Modified Sign Wave before buying the Dewalt **********

Dewalt is quite a bit cheaper. I bought the Dewalt for $199 on sale! You have a million batteries to chose from and they power Dewalt tools. etc etc. Now put a solar panel connector on that bad boy!
I personally found it cool that the EGO powerstation shut off EXACTLY as it SHOULD have! Great job on their BMS! However, it isn't exactly a fair test. The EGO batteries would have powered the saw with the built-in vac for more than 2-1/2 times as long as the Dewalt system, if the COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY SHOP VAC hadn't been used. After all, the saw already has a vac system. Wonder how long the Dewalt powerstation will support this kind of draw? NOT VERY LONG!!! Maybe 20 minutes. Then you need a new set of batteries, or wait for them to recharge. Only large battery banks are intended for long run-times. These power stations (both of them) are intended for emergency use, or while powering a camp side coffee pot, or/and a string of LED lights. They are certainly not intended to be used in a construction type of situation. In the words ov the apparently venerable president, 'C'mon, man'!
Actually yes there has been many brands that have made very powerful portable stations like these you just may not have heard of them or may not even know the brand I like your review on this was great but as for that yes there is plenty that surpassed the dewalt
If you’re gonna get either one of these, you’re better off spending the money on the highest rated battery they offer. Ego 7.5amp & Dewalt 9amp. Otherwise you’ll always be playing catch-up.
wow - you don't understand amps at all! volts x amps = watts. dewalt 6 amp battery has 6 x20 = 120 watts of power. EGO 5 x 56 = 280 watts of power. The EGO will last 2.3 times longer when using in the field(with 5 amp batteries). So when you compare battery size, remember that the ego has 2.3 times the power. You would need two dewalts to run as long as one EGO. or buy another $600 worth of batteries to match the duration. Not to mention that the EGO battery management system and cooling are far superior to most other brands which allows their batteries to have longer life-spans.
Also the base Ego Power Station comes with 7.5 ah batteries and as mentioned the watts power would increase again. As a current Ego user, "snowblower, backpack & stick leaf blowers and a chain saw. Currently have 5+ batteries. Only problem is that there is no solar panel to recharge.
Most of us all have Dewalt 20 volt batteries already so the cost for the bare unit is more realistic. Plus the DeWalt tool platform is much bigger than the Ego with all the new bare tools available. I would like to try the DeWalt power station with 4 x12AH batteries on something like a small electric heater. My biggest complaint is the obnoxious low battery beeper that goes off when the batteries are getting low but I'm using this for camping not on a job site. Thanks for the review the DeWalt power station has never got the attention it deserves. If you have a solar panel a 12 volt battery and a 1000 watt inverter you can live off the grid at least for a day or two.
Amp hours on batteries is the most important comparison. Ego advertised amp hours is at 56 volts while dewalt advertised amp hours is at 20 volts, not at 60 volts. Do your math and you'll see the ego power bank will last you longer. Gotta make it mora fair.

The Ego will run my full size fridge/freezer for 7 hours with just 2 7.5 amp batteries. No comparison.

I’ll take the Ego Nexus Power station. I have two 7.5 AH batteries with two 2.5 AH Batteries. This station will cost me $500.

Sensitive electronics run almost exclusively on DC not AC so the modified sine wave isn't going to have an effect.
That is a HUGE difference. For strictly power tool/construction Dewaly is the way to go. BUT if you have any intention on other prepper/camping use, Ego should strongly be considered and is on price point for similar off-grid products.

If you did run time testing you'd see the Ego would last far longer than the DeWalt. Ego's batteries have far more capacity, and that's where the money is going. That power station will work with any number of batteries from 1-4. and you can also buy it as a kit with two 7.5Ah batteries for less money.
No denying though that the DeWalt electronics can supply higher peak power. Impressive.

The dewalt is *6* amps only in 18/20 volt tools. It's actually 2 amp hours in a 60V tool.
The ego is rated at 5 amp hours at it's 56v rating, if there was an equivalent 18.6v rating the ego batteries would be 15 amp hour batteries, hense the crazy size.

I have an EGO blower and that machine is awesome but the EGO power station is just too expensive. In my opinion, the Dewalt beats EGO...

The math noted in the other comments makes clear who would win the long runtime test. It is also why it takes longer for the EGO to charge. I have the 7.5Ah batteries and they would not modify the demo in the video, only the long run time. I have experimented with a 10amp greenworks detacher. One 7.5 amp hour battery on my EGO power station will do a medium sized front lawn. But four 7.5Ah batteries will last more than 4 times as long under the same load. I haven't had it long enough to know how much longer.
Has he done something like this with the Ryobi 40V one? I know there's a One+ version of this coming out this year I think June. Really wondering.
It's a little unfair to call the Dewalts 6AH, because at 60V max (54V really) they are 2AH. The EGO says 54V on it, so maybe it's 5AH at 56V, which would justify the huge size difference.

Had the Dewalt Power Station for 2 years now and running the 9ah batteries. To say the least it is an absolute brute and has powered so many things including be able to run the Hilti TE-3000 jack hammer in areas where there are no power outlets.
Right now Blain's Farm and Fleet has the 2 pack 9.0ah batteries (DCB 609-2) for $209😲 that's an insane deal👍

Have the dewalt powerstation and love it. Tried so many ways to get power at jobsites....generator, solar, car batteries etc. The dewalt is so handy especially when you have 30 batteries lol. Makes it nice to always have power. The new Milwaukee is out and that SOB is $3500!!! and is only as powerful as the dewalt and takes special battery that most contractors cant use and dont already have! Stupid move for Milwaukee. What device can I use to clean up the Dewalt signal so I can run electrics on it ?
I wish you didn’t alter the speed and volume of certain clips because I want to hear how much the devices are straining. Also, it’s not a fair test because the DE-WALT didn’t come with the Amazon basics adaptor so it can’t run three devices at a time unless you separately buy the adaptor.

I wouldn't expect there to be a difference with the tools that were used in this video but I would never plug my TV or computer into an inverter with a modified sine wave.
All you proved was that the DeWalt has a bigger inverter. The power of the battery is volts times amps (P=EI). The Ego battery is 56 volts, the DeWalt is 18V. You never tested to see which system lasted longer which is the an important parameter.
People who don't know electronics shouldn't evaluate electronic equipment. We don't know the starting current of the devices or their wattage. Sure if you put a load on a device that's above its ratings it's going to shut down, what did you prove? If you plug a device that draws 20 amps into a 15 amp breaker the breaker will trip. I'm sure you meant well but that was horrible!
Can you run a refrigerator on the Dewalt? If so how long would it last you think? A couple things about the EGO i think people should keep in mind. 1) You dont have to buy one with batteries if you are using the tools already, the bare power station is 499. 2) He says the unti with 4 5 amp hr batteries is 1700, but you can also buy a unit with 2 7.5 amp hr batteries for 1300.

Overall the Ego does cost more BUT if you break it down by cost per watt hour the Ego is actually cheaper because the batteries are much larger and will therefore run much longer. The DeWalt was slightly better in these tests but IMO nowhere near enough to make up for the small batteries and lack of pure sine wave resulting in the possibility of damaging sensitive appliances. I believe the DeWalt also requires all 4 batteries and the Ego can run on only 1. I agree thought that for construction jobs DeWalt may be the choice but other than that Ego is tough to beat.

Math fail. You are comparing apples to oranges with the batteries. The Ego 5 AH batteries are 5 AH at 56V. The Dewalt batteries are 6 AH at 20V. Ego 5x56 = 280 watt hours of energy. Dewalt are 6 AH x 20 volts = 120 watt hours. That's apples to apples. #science

I have had my DeWalt DCB1800 for a couple of years now and It gets used mainly during power outages which can be frequent in the winter and has never failed to power any corded tool that I have used it with. The cost? Well, I have a brother who works for S/B&D so the unit was criminally inexpensive ($150Cdn) at his employee price. All of my cordless tools are DeWalt...can ya blame me?

Bottom line, in simple terms... The EGO is perfect for a weekend of camping or a temporary blackout at your house . The DeWalt is more for everyday contractor / construction use . Hence “ all the bells and whistles “

The ego batteries have a lot more capacity like almost 3 x and the watt hours are what shows that. Ego's got the 7.5 amp batteries as well and those are only the 5's. Ego wins in the battery generator world against dewalt. I don't care if dewalt can do 3 seconds of cutting before it shuts down and protects itself.
I have 4 12amp batteries on a dewalt. Hands down dewalt wins. Been off grid camping with it as well
mike lucas careful, the dewalt fried my fridge in the camper.. and a laptop.. it was too late till I found out it’s modified sine wave, so sensitive electronics are at risk. Ego is pure sine wave so it’s better for camping and charging electronics. Dewalt is good only strictly for power tools.
@@mikelucas4247 It's not just amps. There is more power in 4 5 amp Ego batteries than 4 12 amp Dewalt batteries because Ego batteries are 56 volts vs 20 volts. Sounds like it has worked for you but it could cause damage.

@@mikelucas4247 If you are using the Dewalt Flexvolt batteries (20v / 60v) that just means that the voltage changes in the battery depending on the tool you use it with. When voltage changes the amps also change. 20 v with 12 amps or 60 v with 4 amps. Bottom line is that no matter what voltage is used the total power the battery provides is still ONLY 240 watt hours. The Ego 7.5 Amp battery has 420 watt hours and the 10 Amp battery has 560 watt hours. To my point Dewalt batteries fall far short of the available power in an ego battery which means less run time.
You can use Dewalt's 12ah batteries for even more power. Plus DeWalt is about to release 15ah batteries.

One thing you missed was the conversion of battery capacity.
Dewalt batteries are 6AMP at 20v (18v really)
EGO batteries are 5AMP at 56v
The EGO batteries should provide about 3 times the runtime of the Dewalt batteries.
This runtime would be a great thing for you to test in a future video.

Yes Ego would be better. A lot more power with Ego and this video only used 4 5 amp Ego batteries. Throw on 4 7.5 or 10 amp batteries and there is no comparison in how long the run time would be.
You can get the ego kit on eBay for 1400. I think it’s the Best Buy. Plus you can use the batteries on many many other devices that are all awesome

Thank you for noting that if you are already on a battery platform it makes no sense to switch brands. I have a couple of EGO tools I use for my lawn service. I didn't buy the power station to be a power station. I have a gas generator for that. I bought it to be a battery charger. I already had batteries and was able to buy it as a "Bare tool" Saving money on the retail price. Having said that, I have not started my gas generator since having the EGO power station. It does everything I need except run my 110v welder on "High". If I am ever doing something that heavy I will still need my gas generator for that task.

I believe you're looking at this wrong first of all you're not doing an apples-to-apples comparison all you have proven is that they are rated for 5 amp hour or six amp hour respectively and have performed as such which anybody can read on them however from a engineering standpoint EGO power pack are designed to mitigate spikes in temperature due to their separation of cells and ventilation I believe that the longevity of these will be much better than DeWalt however it does have some faults specifically charging time however you could use egos rapid charger if you wanted to charge faster and of course the cost is much higher but I believe this is a far Superior product than DeWalt
For this application of just a mobile power unit perhaps dewalt is better suited for this with the lower cost which is tied directly to the lower 24V/6AH battery for a total of 480 WATT station. The EGO if loaded with X4 7.5 AH @ 56 V gives you a 1680 WATT, you can use really up to 80% of that so really a 1344 WATT power station which is 2.8 times the amount of power to the DEWALT. Obviously this has a lot more application to it then just a mobile power station for tools. You are correct in the end that DEWALT wins out for this usage. It's not true overall depending on other applications. Also if you decided to buy enough of the 6.0 AH 20 V DEWALT batteries to match the X4 7.5 AH from EGO, the price is going to be around 800-900 dollars for the batteries alone. Not too far now from EGO now.
Good video. Should have done the test with Ego’s 7.5ah batteries instead of the 5.0 as the 5.0 only allows for 1,000 watts and you don’t get the full 2,000 until you use the 7.5’s as it takes 42 or more cells to get the peak wattage.
Sorry have to say this if you read your comments at least the dewalt batteries you have are 6 amp hour at 20v but much less at 60v the ego is 56v at 5 amp hour that's why it's so much bigger that's one thing I love about these ego batteries I just wish the ego had a inverter that was a little smoother output but I cant say to much bout both I build my own portable inverters yes a lot more weight to them but I still would love to have one of those units for easy power

As a Tradie (Australian for Tradesman) I can just imagine how all those EGO flimsy bits / fancy electronics would fare on a work site after 3 years.......
Plus not enough power for the tools I use, would last about 20 - 30 minutes when in use.

In general, EGO is better as it has pure sinewave and the total setup can cost bit less than Dewalt at similar capacity. It also has a lot more features.
As of now, EGO is $999 with 2 7.5Ah, making total of 840Wh.
For the Dewalt, about at the same price, total capacity would be 720Wh (About $449~$499 for the station + $270 for 9Ah two pack x 2)
But EGO one couldn't start my sump pump as it required 28.5 amp (3420W) start.
Dewalt one ran my sump pump for about an hour per 1Ah in a stormy night. So I am staying with Dewalt for now, until something better comes out. (Milwaukee MX FUEL one is unfortunately not an option as it's too expensive, and batteries are are totally new)

I am a plumber, I throw my DeWalt power station in the back of my van and it takes punishment. I can't say enough about my DeWalt power station. When I first did some threading with my power pony, I was super impressed that I was able to thread inch and a half galvanized piping and did not run out of power or overload. Badass

1700 is the price if you don't already have the batteries. Those 4 batteries will cost you 1000. Also, you can buy the tool with no battery for 500 right now. I don't think anyone, who doesn't have at least a few batteries, is buying this.

Yes the Dewalt is cheaper-Neither could run three motors-The EGO has more upside-Runtime and the ability to put 4-10AH batteries. I would rather have the run time VS a little more peak.

I was going to complain but it seams that there has been comments below about the pure sine wave and the difference between 20v and 56v. Pure sine wave inverters are bigger and a lot more expensive than modified sign wave inverters. This is a huge feature that was not commented on. I own both and the Dewalt inverter sets on a shelf as a battery charger. I burnt up my Minneapolis Blower Door $2500 with the Dewalt. I found out late that most capacitor start motors are not modified sign wave compatible. Practically everything is compatible with the Ego. I guess if you are just using it with power tools, drills and saws, the Dewalt may be the way to go. It was also not commented on is run time. The Ego runs for ever compared to the Dewalt. ********* Be sure your devices you plan to run will work on a Modified Sign Wave before buying the Dewalt **********

Dewalt is quite a bit cheaper. I bought the Dewalt for $199 on sale! You have a million batteries to chose from and they power Dewalt tools. etc etc. Now put a solar panel connector on that bad boy!

I personally found it cool that the EGO powerstation shut off EXACTLY as it SHOULD have! Great job on their BMS! However, it isn't exactly a fair test. The EGO batteries would have powered the saw with the built-in vac for more than 2-1/2 times as long as the Dewalt system, if the COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY SHOP VAC hadn't been used. After all, the saw already has a vac system. Wonder how long the Dewalt powerstation will support this kind of draw? NOT VERY LONG!!! Maybe 20 minutes. Then you need a new set of batteries, or wait for them to recharge. Only large battery banks are intended for long run-times. These power stations (both of them) are intended for emergency use, or while powering a camp side coffee pot, or/and a string of LED lights. They are certainly not intended to be used in a construction type of situation. In the words ov the apparently venerable president, 'C'mon, man'!

Actually yes there has been many brands that have made very powerful portable stations like these you just may not have heard of them or may not even know the brand I like your review on this was great but as for that yes there is plenty that surpassed the dewalt
If you’re gonna get either one of these, you’re better off spending the money on the highest rated battery they offer. Ego 7.5amp & Dewalt 9amp. Otherwise you’ll always be playing catch-up.
EGO has a 10Ah battery now. I have four 7.5Ah batteries and a dream that some day I will see someone wanting to trade on craig's list.
wow - you don't understand amps at all! volts x amps = watts. dewalt 6 amp battery has 6 x20 = 120 watts of power. EGO 5 x 56 = 280 watts of power. The EGO will last 2.3 times longer when using in the field(with 5 amp batteries). So when you compare battery size, remember that the ego has 2.3 times the power. You would need two dewalts to run as long as one EGO. or buy another $600 worth of batteries to match the duration. Not to mention that the EGO battery management system and cooling are far superior to most other brands which allows their batteries to have longer life-spans.

Also the base Ego Power Station comes with 7.5 ah batteries and as mentioned the watts power would increase again. As a current Ego user, "snowblower, backpack & stick leaf blowers and a chain saw. Currently have 5+ batteries. Only problem is that there is no solar panel to recharge.

Most of us all have Dewalt 20 volt batteries already so the cost for the bare unit is more realistic. Plus the DeWalt tool platform is much bigger than the Ego with all the new bare tools available. I would like to try the DeWalt power station with 4 x12AH batteries on something like a small electric heater. My biggest complaint is the obnoxious low battery beeper that goes off when the batteries are getting low but I'm using this for camping not on a job site. Thanks for the review the DeWalt power station has never got the attention it deserves. If you have a solar panel a 12 volt battery and a 1000 watt inverter you can live off the grid at least for a day or two.

Amp hours on batteries is the most important comparison. Ego advertised amp hours is at 56 volts while dewalt advertised amp hours is at 20 volts, not at 60 volts. Do your math and you'll see the ego power bank will last you longer. Gotta make it mora fair.
