I’m native Japanese and gosh your videos always make me want to help you a lot 😭 The walking streets with roof enable us to shop in rainy day. Thanks for enjoying Japan anyway! Take care
Regarding the coffee from vending machines, in summer it’s difficult to find a hot coffee from them. But for reference, if the light is red around/by the button, then it is hot. A blue light means it will be cold.
Welcome to japan! About vending machines, price tags for cold drinks are always colored blue and red for warm drinks. Now it's summer,so drinks mostly cold. When it gets cold, drinks also change to hot.
つめたい/tsumetai means cold in Japanese ... below the cans you can see the writing in Japanese hence the blue colouring for cold if you want hot look for あたたかい/atatakai for warm or あついatsui for hot with the red writing on it during the summer though it will be hard to find... you'd be better off just going to a 711 and getting a hot coffee cheers
Drinks with blue labels say 'つめた~い' and are served cold. It's almost impossible to find drinks with red labels that are hot from vending machines in the summer...
On vending machines, at 35:21 of the video, you’ll see the sign “COLD” (in white over blue) right above the buttons. At 28:53 you’ll see similar presentation but only in Japanese [つめた〜い] which means “cold”. At 27:20, there are no written signs but you’ll notice the buttons are blinking in blue, which tells you they’re cold drinks. Basically in summer, you’ll only find cold drinks in vending machines. The lineups of the drinks change as it gets more chilly and cold, then you’d find signs in red [あたたか〜い] meaning “hot(warm)”. So regardless of the signs, blue is cold, and red is warm. Hope this helps!
Tokyo and Osaka are different in every way, including the nature of their inhabitants. Osaka is much more energetic and chaotic than Tokyo. Osakans don't like Tokyo people because they say they are pretentious.🤣They say that Tokyo is a cold city and Osaka is a warm and humane city. On the other hand, Tokyo people despise Osakans as vulgar and loud.😆
Hello!!Welcome to Japan😊 You should try some Japanese ice cream at convenience store!! 1.Yukimi Daifuku(the original mochi ice cream) 2. GariGarikun(ice cream bar with shaved ice) 3. Choco Monaka Jumbo(an ice cream sandwich consisting of a chocolate bar covered in vanilla ice cream and surrounded by a monaka wafer) These are my recommendations✌🏻amazing and very low price. Please enjoy and safe travels🇯🇵❤❤
Good recommendations! Chocolate Monaka for sure. The crunchiness of the outside crust is unbelievable. I'm Japanese and I eat it Alllll the time 😊 In the summer heat, I also recommend Papico coffee flavor) and Coolish (chocolate flavor) as they're both soothing and cooling
I totally agree. Japan is way way cheaper than other Asian markets like Philippines. The food is definitely cheaper. It is the best place to visit or live if you’re after remarkable savings and quality.
29:20 Me: Nooo! It says "つめたい" (cold)! If you can't read it, just remember the colors above the prices: blue = cold red = hot That particular machine happens to not have cold ones, but there definitely are some that do sell hot ones, albeit fewer during summer.
Go to 35:24, not sure if you realised there are tempreture indications in English. As you can see, when drinks are cold, you see them in blue banners while you see in red when drinks are hot (warm). I think you find hot canned coffee in convenience stores all the time, often near check out.
I would say when people think of Japan being expensive they are talking about Tokyo. The rest of the areas are pretty inexpensive depending on where you stay and how early you book things. I booked back in March for my trip in Nov and got a hotel right outside Kyoto station for $90 a day and outside Shin-Osaka station for around $115 for a suite. The cheapest was a Sendai hotel near the station for around $45 a night.
I’m going to Japan for two weeks in January 2025. These video’s have really helped me find out more about the JR Pass, the subway systems and Narita airport. Appreciate you sharing the smaller details rather than just videoing the famous, tourist locations
Hot drinks come out late fall early winter. You can tell by the color of the label saying つめたい tsumetai, hot drinks have a red color with あったかい attakai.
One of the funnest things to do in Osaka is go to a meetup. It’s a rare opportunity to meet and talk to locals in English who enjoy speaking English and meeting foreigners.
I'm Japanese so what you're showing is mostly what I'm familiar with BUT, I haven't gone back to Japan since 2005 (I'm in Canada) so there are many things that updated my brain calculation. LOL Anyway, for the coffee (or any drink) vending machines, I know you can't read Japanese but under each button it indicates either it's a hot drink or cold by saying it in Japanese writing (hiragana saying either "Tsuneta〜I" for "cold" and "Atsu〜I" for "hot") AND with a colour code either blue for cold and red for hot. Some vending machines have both options as well. By the way, I still enjoy when you (and many other foreigners) say/read Japanese words with your heavy English accent like "Done-ton-Burry" for "Doh-Tong-Bo-ri". Still gives me a chuckle every time I hear it. And the population for Christians in Japan is (I heard) less than 1% of the entire Japanese population. When it comes to Roman Catholics(like myself), then even less than that so I'm a pretty rare individual if I was still in Japan. For the name of that semi-outdoor shopping strip mall, we call it in Japanese, "Show-Ten-Guy". (I know funny when I write it phonetically in English.)
The vending machine has a temperature adjustment function, and the hot version period is from October in autumn to May in spring, and the color of the button also changes from red to blue. If you want to drink hot coffee, you can use a convenience store to drink freshly ground coffee at the same price.
Being from Ottawa, Osaka felt right at home. Friendly people, amazing food and atmosphere. Easier to get around and more affordable. If I was to pick a city to live in Japan, Osaka hands down!
Thank u for coming to my hometown!! It's a pleasure that you studied it a lot lol I raised up there but I can notice good and interesting points due to your video!!
Others have already said about how to tell the difference between hot and cold drinks at vending machines.. So I don't need to. But I haven't seen anyone mention that you'll be able to also find hot coffee (both machine and canned) at Family Mart, Lawsons, 7-11, etc.
ICOCA can also be used on the subway Almost all trains from Osaka, Nara and Kyoto are available. It can be used on Osaka City Bus, Kyoto City Bus, and Nara and Wakayama Railways
Great video, I just love how you talking about the places you go to, and about the food as well. Thank you for taking me through your journey what a beautiful place you go. God bless you Zane. Be safe out there. 🌺✨🌺✨🌺✨🌺✨⭐️
yeh osaka was my favorite, hard to admit cuz kyoto was amazing and tokyo is hard to beat, but osaka has that super chill and fun loving vibe with the people. go to den den town!
The covered shopping street you mentioned is called "shotengai" in Japanese, and dates back to the Edo Period (Edo is the previous name for Tokyo) when the Tokugawa family administered the "political functions" of the national government (from 1603 to 1867 via 15 shoguns), under the authority of the Emperor of Japan. Initially,, the streets were all uncovered. These shopping streets are quite common throughout Japan, with most still being open air. The covered streets are a more recent development as protection from weather (some have a bit of air conditioning or heating). Even Disneyland Tokyo covered Main Street for this reason. It should be noted that Osaka is now undergoing major renovations as targeted by the national government, similar to what Tokyo previously experienced. So, with each ensuing visit to Osaka, there should be noticeable differences. Hot beverages in Japanese vending machines are usually highlighted with red color in the pricing button (blue means cold), red coloring under the displayed items, etc. Easiest to just purchase from a convenience store like 7-11, where the hot beverages will be displayed in certain sections, and you can feel the warmth. By the way, a minor point, because seeing all the vowels in Japanese words may be somewhat intimidating. Japanese is the easiest to pronounce of all Asian languages, and is claimed to be in the same family (Ural-Altaic) as the Finish language. Just pronounce each syllable as written, read, etc. The most difficult syllable is probably "tsu" for Westerners, which is close to a hard "s" with a weak "t" sound mixed in.
No silly intros, no silly music. I love the format of your vlogs... Really enjoy watching your videos, you're one of my favorite youtubers now. I'm so glad I was able to bump into your channel.
I am glad you are enjoying Japan ! I got nervous when I heard "very hot water will be coming " from the water heater control panel on the wall showing 60 degrees celsius ( is equal to 140 degrees Fahrenheit)😅
Hot coffee come in red on the sign of the vending machines. The blue one is cold coffee. why dont you use google translate for everything including on the light switch? it the best.
they used to set the machines to have cold coffees in summer and hot in winter, many machines do not have both, they will be marked with blue or red, no extra button
@29:58 The vending machines you were using only served cold drinks, it says it right above the price "tsumetai" つめたい, and it's color coded in blue. If im not wrong, for warm/hot drinks it should say "atatakai" or "atsui" あたたかい or あつい, and will be color coded in red
Great video but hard to watch with cellphone vibrations with every step, invest in a DSLR with stabilzation or a gimbal stabilizer for cellphones. Doing research of cities you visit enriches the experience. Going to Osaka/Kyoto/Nara/ Tokyo in May and finding interesting points in Osaka is great.
Thank you for enjoying Japan. As a Japanese person, there is something I would like to convey to you. Unfortunately, it's not just good tourists like you, overtourism has recently become a problem due to the influence of social media, and the environment is being destroyed by some tourists who lack manners and morals. And the living spaces of local Japanese people are being threatened. When introducing Japan, I would like them to not only introduce the good things about Japan, but also the courtesy and etiquette when sightseeing in Japan.
You turned On the bathtub and set the bathtub temperature water that wasn't the ac ..Thoese shopping alleyway slash Arcadia are called shotengai shopping arcades
Welcome to Osaka, my home town!. Google Translate is useful. It can translate any language you read through camera lens. Have a safe rest of your trip!
Dude! I'll be in Japan in November, do you have an Instagram that I can message you? or a Twitter? totally not a bot, just have some questions! Also I love your videos!
Each item in vendinig machines usually has a label telling you if it's cold or hot. Look for the red labels and that means they are hot. The vending machines you bought from had only cold drinks as you can tell by the blue labels. Hope this helps!
when all else fails start pressing buttons lol. I did the same thing with the building security having to come up to my room and reset the emergency call button
17:40 I went and ordered the exact same item last time I was there. I can still remember the sensation of burning my tongue. :D 30:08 Under the products you can see, and just above the price, there's a "blue" line with lettering. The lettering there reads "Cold" with blue as the color assigned to it. If you find one that's red, that's the warm one.
You state that Japan is not as expensive as you thought. That has been my experience too. I mean, you can spend a lot on accommodations and eating out if you want to but it is not necessary to really enjoy Japan.
If you come back to tokyo and want a Japanese translator I would be glad to help Not a good guide but I speak fluent English and Japanese. Lmk if you need any help!
Complete meals with the best ingredients (beverages, meats and produce higher in quality than in the US or France) can be had for under $10 (with tax). It along with Tokyo are the best cities for foodies.
Ive been to both, but admittedly only a short time in osaka. Loved both of them, but i prefered tokyo. Osaka seemed really run down n kinda ugly compared to Tokyo. I dunno, i just preferred Tokyo for some reason. Had a nicer feel to it.

always exciting to see your new video about JAPAN! Go Sapporo, and Onsen too.
Loved seeing your tours of Japan! I've always wanted to visit Tokyo an such but seeing these videos makes me want to travel there that much more!

I've been to both cities several times. I always viewed Osaka as a smaller version of Tokyo (although Osaka isn't small.) My favorite town is Fukuoka.
Great comment now i know more about Janpanese ☺️
I’m glad you enjoyed Osaka!
In summer, we cannot get hot coffee with vending machines. Convenient store sell it sometimes.
Hello!!Welcome to Japan😊

Love your videos!!!! You capture the vibe of the city so well, feels as if im traveling with you!! Going to Japan on oct 3th till oct 18th!
How was your experience in Japan
I’m going to Japan for two weeks in January 2025. These video’s have really helped me find out more about the JR Pass, the subway systems and Narita airport. Appreciate you sharing the smaller details rather than just videoing the famous, tourist locations
I am also visiting tokyo in 2025 😊 Have a great trip✈️
Man… I always see people plan so far in advance. The wait must be terrible. Even around 7-8 months felt forever for me.
I went to Thailand and Vietnam in 2022 and it was beutiful and I was there for 42 days for 3,000usd
Right above the price of each..if it's blue it's cold, if it's red it's hot. Also..when ordering a coffee just say "hoto cohee".
Blue signs on vending machine prices are usually COLD and red signs are usually HOT.
In the $1 range, McDonald's hot coffee is actually the best.
For vending machine RED button for hot/warm drink and BLUE for cold ones
Hot drinks come out late fall early winter. You can tell by the color of the label saying つめたい tsumetai, hot drinks have a red color with あったかい attakai.
You can always get a hot americano anytime of the day in any convenience stores like 7-11, Family Mart, Lawson etc
One of the funnest things to do in Osaka is go to a meetup. It’s a rare opportunity to meet and talk to locals in English who enjoy speaking English and meeting foreigners.
How do you find a meetup? I'm going in April 2025
Notice the colour of the vending machines which is blue for cold and red for hot!

really enjoyed this series! hyping me up for my trip
The takoyaki shop you’re eating at is a popular shop in Osaka called Kureoru(Creole).
You found a good shop.
The vending machine has a temperature adjustment function, and the hot version period is from October in autumn to May in spring, and the color of the button also changes from red to blue.
If you want to drink hot coffee, you can use a convenience store to drink freshly ground coffee at the same price.

Namba Nankai is exactly where I stay on layover. It's such a busy hustle and bustle area of Osaka, I love it!!!!
Your videos feel so natural, you include so much detail

Glico man is the iconic "I've been to Osaka" photo. It's been there since 1935.

Osaka is the best prefecture in Japan!
I saw in some vlogs that when the light is red it is hot, if its blue then its cold 😊
I think at the start of the video (2:29) you hop onto the women’s only train carriage, you can see the pink English signs on the train.
Women's only is only for rush hour,
大阪来てくれてありがとう
I think you were in the car for ladies only to Nanba. It's ok. It's cute mistake for international travellers.
非常ボタン押してんの笑った😂
great views of the streets! i'll be going in october and this helps me a lot! may i know when did you go to japan or when this was shot?
I am glad you are enjoying Japan ! I got nervous when I heard "very hot water will be coming " from the water heater control panel on the wall showing 60 degrees celsius ( is equal to 140 degrees Fahrenheit)😅

Doing research of cities you visit enriches the experience.
Going to Osaka/Kyoto/Nara/ Tokyo in May and finding interesting points in Osaka is great.
I’m getting ready to go to Japan for a first time. Been studying the madness 😅
I like the reality of your videos.
You look like you're really enjoying the adventure.
i love takoyaki too
Thank you for enjoying Japan.
Great vid I live in osaka
Just a note, but at 2:30 you board a train car that is for women only, lol.
Ignorance is bliss! Master Roshi would have done the same.
0:10 Greetings guide for Japan.
"Oh"

Red lights on a Vending machine are the HOT drinks!
You need to try the ones with RED light either in the button or next to the price!
Welcome to Osaka, my home town!. Google Translate is useful. It can translate any language you read through camera lens. Have a safe rest of your trip!
The hot drinks in vending machines will show red where the blue was above the button :) blue means cold drinks, red means hot drinks.
Dude! I'll be in Japan in November, do you have an Instagram that I can message you? or a Twitter? totally not a bot, just have some questions!
Also I love your videos!
23:11 That was a vending machine which dispenses frozen food
Need to know the hole-in-the-wall ramen spot you found!
I was in tears laughing @ Zane with the alarm system😂
In vending machines, blue price tags are for cold drinks and red price tags are for hot drinks.
Be in Tokyo in a few months!
Osaka Castle?

Each item in vendinig machines usually has a label telling you if it's cold or hot. Look for the red labels and that means they are hot. The vending machines you bought from had only cold drinks as you can tell by the blue labels. Hope this helps!
Indoor outdoor street market!
when all else fails start pressing buttons lol. I did the same thing with the building security having to come up to my room and reset the emergency call button
The colour of the lights tell you if it is a hot or cold drink. Red lights are hot drinks and blue lights are cold drinks.
17:40 I went and ordered the exact same item last time I was there. I can still remember the sensation of burning my tongue. :D
30:08 Under the products you can see, and just above the price, there's a "blue" line with lettering.
The big cities can be expensive. The smaller towns are not.
部屋は狭いけど慣れれば全く問題ないです。とにかく慣れるまで粘ることが大事です。
I'm having a very good time watching you Japan trip.
