Thank you so much for the feedback! i'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and hopefully you'll enjoy the recipe if you decide to use it :-) As this was my first video, there a few things i would do differently, i.e. the annoying music choice - I won't be making that mistake again :-)
That’s not true he forgets to tell you to add half of the stuff just shows a video of it all going into a tray after not mentioning adding sugar and eggs 😂
Seems nice, but I think that you should have pricked the cake with a fork before adding the drizzle so that it soaked inside the sponge with glory pockets.
On a traditional Lemon drizzle, The drizzle should be poured over a warm cake, so it only saturates the surface, allowing the drizzle to form a sugar granulated covering.. There are many ways to change styles. But i find tradition hardly fails in the kitchen.
Many thanks indeed for uploading this delicious and very well presented recipe. I'll be baking it tomorrow, although not having a traybake tin, will be trying it in an 8" round cake tin and seeing how it turns out. As for the music, I was too busy watching to notice it, but surely if it's too distracting just mute or reduce the volume!! .
wurlitzer895 Wow! I’m so glad you’re going to try out the recipe tomorrow! As for the cake tin, it really doesn’t matter what you use, I’m sure it will still be delicious! It makes me so happy to read that people are deciding to use this recipe, please let me know how you found it 😊😊
@@MontvaleBakes Well, I made it as promised, using a very basic bundt tin which I bought years ago (but never used before). It turned out (in every sense of the word) beautifully and is very tasty and 'lemony'. A great recipe!! Thanks again for uploading! Shame I can't (or don't know how to) upload a picture of the finished cake for your information. Best as always, Peter A
Made it! It was soooo good! Light and fluffy middle and bottom, moist top, not at all too sweet and just lemony enough. I decorated it by dusting some powdered sugar (confectioners sugar) and putting a handful of blackberries in the top left corner with some lavender sprigs in/around it. Will definitely make again (especially during the summer). Also, I found that for me, there was a little too much of the lemon syrup that you brush over the cake, so I added some water and bam you have the perfect glass of lemonade. Don’t throw it!!
Excellent video! After reading numerous comments, two things spring to mind. 1. People's inability to Google conversion of temperature from centigrade to fahrenheit and 2. have a look in the top section , above the comments which actually shows the recipe.
Not bad. Which is to say it's become a standard recipe that I use frequently, it also works with oranges. Salt. (I don't use caster sugar though, it's too bloody expensive.)
Hi Marry, Would it be possible to tell me the measurement in cups for the ingredients, since I don't have weighing machine.. Also can I add curd instead of egg? If yes do let me know how much curd can I use?
Perfect! Baked for our Scout group to raise money. As per your instructions - light, risen, lemony and yummy, scrummy. Wanted to post a picture but no facility to. I put video on mute and followed simple instructions. Suggestion, perhaps put list of ingredients at beginning, or have ingredients prepared and labelled before hand. This would allow viewers to prepare ingredients in advance instead of watching video and starting again. Just a thought. A lovely post and we have a fabulous cake. Thank you.
Fantastic! I'm glad you enjoyed baking this delicious cake and for a good cause too! Agree with the suggestions, i'll take that feedback on board for future videos (As well as reviewing my future background music choice! ha)
Hi Darlene, thank you for your comment. A bunds fan should be absolutely fine, just make sure you prick the centre of the cake (or around the cake) to ensure your knife comes out ‘clean’ I hope you enjoy this recipe :-)
I've halved the recipe and made this 2 times now, second time used 1 orange, 1 lemon (all I had) and both times turned out great all the while using free from flour and dairy-free butter although I shan't be turning it over anymore as I see it is an unnecessary faff that even Mary Berry herself does not do.
Wow!!! It must be a very goodness😍😍😋😋!!! a question please.. Can I use a 24 cm round baking tray with the same doses you used? Wait for your reply.. Thanks a lot.. Greetings from italy 🇮🇹
Roberta Suberati thank you for the lovely comment! Yes you can use a 24cm tin with same measurements and it will be delicious!! Stay safe and take care 🇬🇧 xx
I make this when I am taking cake into work and it is really popular, in fact I just made it again last month i will say that in the recipe it tells you to take it out of the oven and let it cool down slightly before you pour on the drizzle otherwise it gets absorbed too much into the cake, on the video it looked like you took it out of the oven and poured it straight on.
Warwick Wolf hi there, you can pour the sugar syrup on either side, it’s just easier and usually more aesthetically pleasing to flip the cake out and drizzle over the top. 😁
I made this cake yesterday and I've got to say its the best lemon drizzle I've ever made... I think I inadvertently put 3 tsp of baking powder in though...still turned out delicious.. but it did rise quite a bit in the middle.. Instant favourite for me..👍
And don't forget to add the measurements for the baking pan, please. It was easy enough for me to Google (frankly, like most of the other questions are). It looks like a typical traybake pan is 12 X 9 inches. The closest US would be 9 X 13 or 11 X 8. I think I will go with the 11 X 8 for a slightly thicker cake instead of the larger one for a thinner one.
@@sazbejoy9816 follow the steps in the video and use a bowl and a whisk/fork/ utensil you have available. Mix it to the consistency shown in the video. 🤦🏻♂️
If you use self raising flour then leave out the baking powder. You don't need it. Until I used it as per recipe my sponges were a delight. When I used it they became a mess in the bread tin and ended up more like a souffle. Never again will I add baking powder to self raising flour that already has a rising agent in it.
Self raising flour has enough baking powder for some recipes but needs to be compensated with more for other recipes, like this one! The same recipe can be made with plain flour, but will need more baking powder than is mentioned in this recipe.
Instead of 225g caster sugar and 175g granulated sugar, we reduced to 150g caster sugar and 50g sugar. Total 200g sugar. Still tastes good and most importantly healthier
You could reduce to 175g sugar instead of 400g. I just did and it tastes good too. Healthier for sure. 400g is too much and you'll get diabetes and all sickness in no time

Unsalted or salted butter

Don’t u poke holes before pouring the lemon and sugar on top?
I've found that the warm cake absorbs a lot of the sugar syrup - but definitely you could poke holes through, good tip! :-)
I used a 13 x 9 x 2 inch tray bake tin
For the glaze, is 175g a 1/2 Cup?
Bless you for using volume measurements! Could this be successfully cooked in a bunds pan? If so, would the cook time be the same?
