My granddad was a tree hugger too. He would close his eyes and hug a tree and then tell you how many board feet would be in the tree. When asked how he knew, he told people because he had talked to the tree about the harvest and it told him. He was usually right to within a hundred board feet on a contract.
I too was a tree hugger. I could sit out looking at them and once one pecan tree began to shimmer at me. I blinked and rubbed my eyes and looked again. Yup. Shimmering. I asked it what do you want? I was instantly answered. " I'm thirsty." Added drip hose. No more shimmer. Thank you tree for telling me.
I have no idea why but I look at Buck and it just makes me feel nostalgic and I love the way he is going grey, lots of character, Ken is a really great looking horse too. what a team. My respect for you both Jim and Brenda as you load and unload that kit.
Huge tree! So interesting to see it cut - and crash to the ground. Amazing to watch. And watching the horses dig in and pull that huge log up the hill - really neat. Thanks for taking us with you!
That's a huge log for those big "ponies"😘 to pull! They do a great job though! That area is so beautiful with all the snow covered trees. Makes the black Percherons look even more beautiful all hitched up as they're dashin' through the snow!!!🥰
Ken & Buck looks like they're discussing a plan too! It is beautiful in them woods! you didn't hear me, because the saw was running, I said" Jim, you're going to pinch the saw!"
I am really jealous of you guys, a husband and wife team out working in the forest together with your equine partners in the sun. What a beautiful life
Such an informative video today (for me !!) Once again, I salute you, Brenda !! Sore knee or not, you're there !! You could see those horses were pulling hard with all the steam coming off them at one stage !! Impressive !!
What a great trailer! I love the sliding "man-door" or whatever it's called. Very helpful to have. Love to see tge horses' neck arch with their stylish RED blankets! You always think of your horses and take such good care of them. It shows your LOVE for them!
If you come back in the spring when the snow is gone, you might find your key. But if a raven sees it first, it will wind up in the raven's nest. Maybe if you let the college know, one of the students may find it when they are in there working. You need to learn to hot wire that skid steer. Sometimes those skid steers all use the same key.
I always check out the description part. Thank you Brenda and Jim. Both of you are such honorable teachers. It's a gift and a calling. We're blessed to have you on our screens. It always makes me feel like I'm almost right there with you.
Dear Jim and Brenda! Thanks for downloading this video! It was right on time! Having a frustrating moment and I needed to watch my favorite… KEN!!! What an amazing horse!!!
My family lived on my grandparents farm. We had a field and woods on another road. They had loggers come in and took logs out and they used mules to pull the logs out of the woods. They looked like they were drafts. I have never seen mules that size again.
Thirty years ago my dad had a small saw as yours and he could take all the lumber possible out of a log and it wasn’t long he could estimate how much a log was in board feet. When he got lumber logs from a logger he measured which was well that he did because those loggers would tell you had more lumber than you sawed. When he showed them he too could measure they took his word then.
My grandfather was a logger well into his 70s! Although he was a career Army Cavalryman and farrier at Ft. Sill, OK, we didn’t have horses, unfortunately, but willing to bet he would have LOVED working with them.
Absolutely beautiful day and tree fantastic horses, thank you Jim for allowing me to watch you in action with your beautiful wife and your beautiful horses
So grateful that you took us along for this lovely day in the woods! The horses’ harnesses and bridles make them look like they are decked out for a show - the red and silver against the black coats is absolutely beautiful.
I can’t wait until Jim can start workin his Suffolks in the woods! I under the 2 year olds aren’t old enough yet, but I look forward to at the very least Barron can start coming along maybe as the 3rd horse to do a little work! Thank you! Jim and Brenda for another great video!
Greetings from the Netherlands. Trinity dairy and Working horses with Jim are my favorite relax moments for years, before I fall asleep. Very interesting as I love animals and especially horses, as well as tractors. Keep up the work and stay healthy. Adriaan de Kam
Your videos are never too long! I was hoping to see Ken and Buck pull out the butt log and suddenly the video was over. 😮😮 Those boys can pull. It’s going to take Barron quite a while to get in that kind of shape.
You have had some great videos but this one beats them all. What a beautiful day to be in the woods!! The snow and sunshine ☀ are so white and bright. A perfect day to be in a beautiful woods. This is one of the things I miss about the farm I grew up on and later farmed. We had two small wood lots.I miss days on the farm that like this. Thanks 😊.
Beautiful day! Watching these videos makes me think of my ancestors (many carpenters and cabinetmakers) and how the wood they used would have been harvested and processed. Thank you.
You never need to apologize for a long video. I enjoy every minute and am sad when it ends! So many times I watch it again! ♥️🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️ 🐴 🐴 The blacks look stunning in the snow!
Love and care for the team is great! Watching the steam rise up when the horses rested indicates that the get warmed up. Can remember the smell of horse sweat from when I was younger! Great video as always.
So LOVE a beautiful Winter day in the woods .. how wonderful to share horses and all with all of us, many of whom can't even go outside any old time anymore. God Bless and keep you and all your loved ones (including hairy, furry and feathered etc) safe and well and happy. Many thanks :)
Lovely day in the woods, thanks for the nice video. I actually liked that Brenda got on the skid, nice view with the horses ahead. Fantastic winter day and of course working with horses, always a pleasure.
Well the boys seems to like the new trailer. So glad everything is working out. Jim you are awesome. Brenda I know you are the one that keeps it all together.
Watching your videos and you said that this is longer than most people like but watching them the time goes by so quick I guess that's because Brenda and you are doing a great job
Yet again another great video..always something new to learn n see..my stallion in his best..( not doing anywhere near the work you do) but on a heavy load he would stop take 3 deep breaths then 3 steps n repeat till he got it where we wanted it.. horses are just amazing...
Your new horse trailer is amazing you’ve done some really good things in there, and I bet the horses right even better and you keep everything separated with those little compartments of yours thank you have a good evening you and your family
Your horses stay pretty calm with all the noise. I guess they've heard it all before. They just seem curious about what you are doing. Probably wondering why you would want two logs instead of one.
It is such a pleasure to watch the horses work! Thank you for making these videos so consistently!! I was wondering how long Jim thinks it will take to train Baron, Duke, and Earl so are ready to work in the woods? A year? Two or three? Or longer?
Excellent vid folks. I'm always dumbfounded about how much there is to being a knowledgeable teamster. Thanks Jim, for passing on all your hard earned experience. I imagine that Buck and Lady would make one peppy team. Do you ever pair them up at horse pulls?
hi Jim, Brenda, Jim, that is some tree, you just cut down!! i noticed ken, and buck, stood great while you cut the tree, with the chainsaw running. good horseman. What a day to be in the woods, with horses. great video .. thanks... GOD BLESS ...Jim Nova Scotia Canada.
hello jim and brenda to be honest i could watch ur videos all the time i think its very interesting how u train the horses and the little bit i have seen and well behave the horses are
that really is a beautiful day, clear skies and snow on the ground, I found it really interesting that you have a snow plow on your truck ( utes to us) coming from a place where we never get snow it is really an eye opener. I have no idea what it would be like working in those conditions, the closest I have come to that was when we were on holiday in Sweden and went into the woods to see moose. ( which we were lucky enough to find).
If NH skidsteers are anything like bobcat there is one key that fits them all. I keep a spare in the truck. Hind sight is great! Lol. I was right on with 450 bf guess. Love the logging videos. Beautiful woods and logs.
Now that's a sizable tree, my goodness, and you are wise to make your horses stop ever so often. They are willing to pull through, but that could damage them.
So interesting to watch and for some reason it is beautiful to watch❤😊makes me think of the hard working people who settled America. God Bless the USA 🇺🇸
Forgive me for forgetting the horses on the rights name when you say carful step he gets low in the harness and digs in . He tries hard he loves what he does. Really fun to watch
Nice video. Thanks for explaining things thoroughly. Is there many loggers in America who use horses ? I wasn’t familiar with any of this till stumbling across this channel. I assumed heavy machinery was used in logging these days. I like that you use horses. Seems more natural. Thanks for the videos Jim & Brenda :)
Farmer (Jim) Brown’s father-in-law loads the horses with the logging arch hitched on, into the trailer and then backs them out. There may be a video on FarmerBrownsPlowShop site? Let the horses help you.
Absolutely beautiful scenery, the trees are stunning when covered with snow A beautiful day to be in the woods.. thanks for sharing , great to see you all again .much love from dry, windy ( a brisk N/E wind creating quite a wind chill factor of 4°C )..N/E Spain.🌞🥶
Beautiful video on a stunningly beautiful day. Re resting the horses, I have seen horses broken winded, and one that literally busted a gut and died at an early endurance ride, back in the 70's. No amount of sweat will hurt a horse, unless it is tied up wet, wet and cold = pneumonia, and so the red rugs for when they have to wait about.
Great video! I'm enjoying my calendar!!! Love the smell of fresh cut pine. Take care and be safe. The wife needs to go and get that knee looked at please!
I heard you mention hooking the team to load the cart in the trailer early in your video. Our friend does that with his team. Just steps them right in the trailer still hooked and heads down the road then they back off and are ready to work.
Could I recommend 'hitch-in farm' to people who like Jim's channel? It's a bit different, more touristy... But a lot of fun and I think they deserve more views
Stopped to go torque a bolt pattern a bit more as the rtv sealant sets up, stopped at 21:20 when it just starts getting good. Ah ha.😄. What an Awesome video. Brenda, i'm glad your sore knee is temporary. As a fella that has felt with knee issues my whole life , I can relate to that. I thank God my knees heal at night and give me another day. Hello to all. Yes beautiful morning, glad folks left your excavator alone, yep risky. Some nice trees down in the hollow. :-)
Wow, that is a beautiful log. That is hard pull'n , starting out on a hill. Need a catch up line, cinch block, starts out at a 2:1 pull, then goes out 10 or 20 feet , then trip the line and it comes back in (make up) to 1:1.. No need to apologize for length of video. Love them.
My granddad was a tree hugger too. He would close his eyes and hug a tree and then tell you how many board feet would be in the tree. When asked how he knew, he told people because he had talked to the tree about the harvest and it told him. He was usually right to within a hundred board feet on a contract.
Impressive!
I love those "old tales" !!
i personally don't mind the longer vidoes, i just enjoy watching you work with them horses
And Brenda if the horses see Jim hooking a big log they think "Jim thinks we can do it so let's prove him right."
I have no idea why but I look at Buck and it just makes me feel nostalgic and I love the way he is going grey, lots of character, Ken is a really great looking horse too. what a team. My respect for you both Jim and Brenda as you load and unload that kit.
Amazing how they are not really bothered by the running of the chainsaw. shows how Jim has been able to train them.
I noticed that, too. They didn't flinch for a second. They are obviously used to that sound !!
I love how you pace the horses and rest them…you know your horses so well.
Huge tree! So interesting to see it cut - and crash to the ground. Amazing to watch. And watching the horses dig in and pull that huge log up the hill - really neat. Thanks for taking us with you!
Love how the boys always pay very close attention to Jim!
That's a huge log for those big "ponies"😘 to pull! They do a great job though! That area is so beautiful with all the snow covered trees. Makes the black Percherons look even more beautiful all hitched up as they're dashin' through the snow!!!🥰
Jim Ein Toller Fuhrmann selten einen so guten und Gefühlvollen gesehen 😊😊!!
I can't believe how much weight your horses can pull. But you know how to work them. Great job

Jim, I pushed snow for 18 years...never plowed snow while pulling a loaded horse trailer. Lol
He is a good one!

Got my calendar today. Thanks. Brings back memories of when I was young and working horses and mules with my dad.

We hope Brenda's knee gets better soon. Another great video folks.
All the best
NOTHING bothers those horses! Sweet!
What a beautiful video, with the blue sky, snow and black horses!
Don’t worry about the length of you videos. I so look forward to seeing them and enjoying them.
Thank you Jim for explaining how to use a hitch like your, I am thinking about getting a hitch for my car like your.
Beautiful scenery, so restful and such a wonderful example of the Creator's handiwork
It certainly looks lovely just watching you drive through the woods!
Awesome video Jim and Brenda what a nice tree , horses are awesome they really do a great job for you.
Lovely day in the woods, thanks for the nice video. I actually liked that Brenda got on the skid, nice view with the horses ahead. Fantastic winter day and of course working with horses, always a pleasure.
Thank you Jim and Brenda. The first day of a move is always a set up day. A little winch would help getting the cart in and out.❤❤❤❤
Well the boys seems to like the new trailer. So glad everything is working out. Jim you are awesome. Brenda I know you are the one that keeps it all together.
Beautiful to see how you and your horses work together
Your videos are enjoyable and relaxing. They are not too long. Thank you for sharing your lives. I grew up just north of you in Massena.
Sounds like a beautiful place, with the locks and all. Aluminum plant.
Very nice.
The woods, snow and sun are beautiful! I love going on the ride with Jim and Brenda.
Great to see really rough trees, a lot of sawn timber is made from these.
Jealous of your snow and blue skies! Grey and barely freezing in southern WI. A pleasure to see you working the horses.
46:42 is a perfect 2024 Calendar photo!
Watching your videos and you said that this is longer than most people like but watching them the time goes by so quick I guess that's because Brenda and you are doing a great job

It is so amazing to see how much they can drag. wow
Thanks for the most enjoyable video. It was great to have you enjoying yourself and laughing at yourselves. Your concern for the horses is remarkable.
Or longer?

Really enjoying the longer videos!! Keep up the great work!
Can you do a video on how and when you got your current horses Jim and Brenda? Love your videos. 👍✌️🇨🇦❤️
Great video. Hope your leg gets better soon Brenda and hope you find your hard hat .
hi Jim, Brenda, Jim, that is some tree, you just cut down!! i noticed ken, and buck, stood great while you cut the tree, with the chainsaw running. good horseman. What a day to be in the woods, with horses. great video .. thanks... GOD BLESS ...Jim Nova Scotia Canada.
I loved the way that they seemed to be watching Jim and thinking, "Is he going to get us to pull THAT" ?
Haha, maybe that is what they are thinking!
Yes, thank you
Beautiful looking pine 450 board ft . Be nice ones you get your logging road built Jim .
That blue sky was absolutely gorgeous!
Indeed it’s a beautiful day. The background shots show a crisp blue sky😊
hello jim and brenda to be honest i could watch ur videos all the time i think its very interesting how u train the horses and the little bit i have seen and well behave the horses are

Absolutely stunning views in todays video. Perfect for a calendar 😉. I hope Brenda’s knee feels better soon.
If NH skidsteers are anything like bobcat there is one key that fits them all. I keep a spare in the truck. Hind sight is great! Lol. I was right on with 450 bf guess. Love the logging videos. Beautiful woods and logs.
Thanks for the News Letter. And thanks for the video at the Saw Mill.I really liked seeing that Band mill
That be "Buck the Great!"
Nice video. Thanks for explaining things thoroughly. Is there many loggers in America who use horses ? I wasn’t familiar with any of this till stumbling across this channel. You have a nice team they work well for you
I love the videos I just close my eyes and listen to horses work it’s so soothing
What a beautiful setting. Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
Absolutely beautiful scenery, the trees are stunning when covered with snow
A beautiful day to be in the woods.. thanks for sharing , great to see you all again .much love from dry, windy ( a brisk N/E wind creating quite a wind chill factor of 4°C )..N/E Spain.🌞🥶
Beautiful video on a stunningly beautiful day.
Re resting the horses, I have seen horses broken winded, and one that literally busted a gut and died at an early endurance ride, back in the 70's. When they get their blood up, over excited and too keen, they can easily kill themselves, and its all about wind. Jim knows this, those little stops are so they can catch their breath. No amount of sweat will hurt a horse, unless it is tied up wet, wet and cold = pneumonia, and so the red rugs for when they have to wait about.
Great video! I'm enjoying my calendar!!! Love the smell of fresh cut pine. Take care and be safe. The wife needs to go and get that knee looked at please!
wonderful to watch you work those beautiful horses.
Good show could’ve watched all day beautiful scenery with the snow and your narration
Love the longer videos. Great job in the woods.
385, I love it, Brenda.
Both of you's guys work great together. 👍
Never too long a video.
I'll get right onto that patent.. :-)
Jim I noticed the step out of the trailer is a little bit nerve racking for the horses, especially when they step on an uneven icey tire trail and kick out their step on ice, I may be over reacting but wonder it they are at risk to strain a ligament. Maybe not, wonder if a step platform would help them or if they will get used to the trailer being a few inches higher, interested in your thoughts on that. Maybe it is no big deal but stepping out of a rig is where we get hurt sometimes getting down. My brother, jumping out of semis his whole life as a heavy equipment mechanic, ankle is shot from landing funny every once in awhile. Anyways, beautiful day in the woods, I like it down in that hollow, the best way to pull it is a challenge, let us know what you decide, it would be nice to see your skid, dray, and wagon again, I love the chain arrangement.
(Wish I was there to help you pull brush, that's what I started out doing and still til today, one man operation do it all.)
Take care of that knee Brenda, we need you.
Thank you so much.
My pleasure also
Well had a lady down hope knee feeling better soon
