I TOTALLY can relate to this pros and cons list! I have literally all the same praises/ gripes about TZ on my vlogs as well. These things were a major adjustment for me coming from The US. But the pros DO outweigh the cons and I still love it and call TZ home. Peace and light!

I feel like my very DNA is drawing me to Africa. Everything is lining up, internally, to make that happen. I'm experiencing a spiritual evolution/revolution within myself, preparing me for the unknown. I'm cleansing myself from materialism and living a more simplistic natural life.
Tanzania came to me when I was watching a documentary about something else. Ever since then, all things Tanzania have been popping up. Do I want to move to Tanzania? Possibly. I do want to visit to test the waters. I don't want to romanticize my experience. I need to go in with my Eye wide open. I must take into account my income, residency, and all aspects of migrating. Your channel is informative on so many levels. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing Tina great video. Regarding the customer service it’s almost the same in any country that doesn’t depend on tourism for their resources. Do not get offend it by customer service in Africa that’s the way it is, is real and natural no fake smile or fake treatment everything is real. I love Tanzania great people and beautiful country one of the most stable , peaceful and democratic country in Africa. My dream is I hope my black brothers all over the world to put into their priorities one day in their life time to visit the mother land and discover it for themselves. There’s something sometimes you can’t explain it you need to feel it, smell it , explorer it and live it on your own and find it out. God bless Africa. From Sudan

When I heard her Cons , I was laughing like crazy . The customer service issue is a black ppl pandemic, come to the Caribbean and we will show you how disgustingly similar we are .Also the light problem, traffic , bad roads and religious problems are problems that Africans in and out of the continent face . Until we do a colonial cleanse , we will not change.

That customer service scenario is the absolute truth -- and I've never been to Tanzania. Unfortunately that kind of customer service is just African. I love it when you have to wake the girl up and she comes to the table dragging her feet and wiping the crust from the side of her mouth. However, when I was in Ghana, I saw tv commercials demonstrating the difference between good customer service and bad customer service. So at least Ghanaians recognize that there is a problem. But yeah, other countries need to follow suit.

I keep hearing about customer service and wait times for food. Is this bcos they actually cook your food as opposed to precooked food that is just heated up in your typical restaurant Europe/North America?

    • @jar1239

Yes, in most African countries we eat fresh, cook from scratch and that takes time, but once the food is ready to be eaten, you won't regret the wait. Another plus is also the fact the nutritious food is not just delicious but healthy (your everyday medicine) Most Africans have a very strong immune system due to tge way of life and the healthy food.

Ohh thats a hard one because there are so many countries on the continent that I haven't been to yet but I would say that If you visit Tz it is quite easy and cheap to move around the east african region either by plane. You could see Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique. Flying from east to west can be quite expensive but if you plan ahead of time it works. I learned the hard way that traveling around africa is not as spontaneous as Asia back packing, you will need more planning due to visa :)

Really low wages for workers here, no laws or rules to protect workers, most establishments are by white/arab/indian who treat native black people really bad, use up their time and pay them barely enough to stay above water as they pass down wealth to their own, racism and classism at its finest, the few black owned businesses dont do as much harm but play along to the systems. That woman who brings you the soda, barerly gets paid 100-150 thousand, in which 50 is rent (somehow needs and gets paid 6 months at a time), and 70 is transport back and forth to work, and 30,000 Tsh(13$) is left to eat a whole month, so life for anyone who works lower paying jobs is just to keep surviving. You do this for 5 years, then dont drag your feet, people are a victims to these systems, its not their fault, there is no hope for most.

Ur onscreen displays with photos from Tanzania are good and its refreshing to hear that there is a woman in Africa speaking out against prudery in public. I am from Germany searching for a Sunday afternoon conversational topic bcs I am going to meet a Tanzanian, who has been living in Germany for the last 12 years, and who's grandparents settled in Tanzania coming from Gujarat in 1940. And also my 68 year old dance teacher was born in Tanzania and is of indian descent but living in Germany now permanently.

Ah and a request: Maybe there is an alternative to AirBnb, like a local provider of accommodation for tourists? Because AirBNB at the moment is dispossessing people in Italy, who are local inhabitants and have been living in the city centre for generations just because they want to make money with tourist, taking no regard to the old culture and city districts traditions being destroyed.

I grew up in Dar es Salaam in the nineteen fifties and sixties and remember the people as being very friendly. I live in South Africa now and your description of the waitress applies to most "civil" servants here. Trying to apply for a passport or birth certificate is the most frustrating experience. I find waitrons usually react well to being greeted wirh a smile and how are you. Tanzanians are generally friendlier than South Africans. The best service here comes from Zimbabweans. Dar es Salaam has obviously changed from when I was there, we had few buses and only one traffic light in what was then Independence Avenue. The tallest buildings were the 2 churches until just before I left when the Kilimanjaro Hotel opened. It will always be my home though.

Thats my home country. Its has to be remembered Africa and other developing countries were first disrupted by colonialism and finally left confused culturally. Now we are trying to do western things which were not part of our blood, thats why the reasons of all those cons.
Anyway, we are not supposed to give up....i can see some cultural transformation in cities, i assure you it will take some more or less time to experience depending on various factors.

I’m based out of Angola, Tanzania is my favorite holiday destination. I have been to Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Kigoma & Mwanza, over my recent breaks & loved the tranquility, hospitality and beaches !
