Zola (Taylour Paige), a Detroit waitress, strikes up a new friendship with a customer, Stefani (Riley Keough), who seduces her to join a weekend of dancing and partying in Florida. What at first seems like a glamorous trip full of “hoeism” rapidly transforms into a 48-hour journey involving a nameless pimp, an idiot boyfriend, some Tampa gangsters and other unexpected adventures in this wild, see-it-to-believe-it tale.

I spent a good part of my teen years in Detroit and met plenty of white girls with a "blaccent". It was easy to tell when one thought they had to talk a certain way to fit (which still confounds me today because I had a thick Kenyan accent in my teens). But there was also plenty of white girls and that's how they genuinely talked. No one is born with a specific accent. I think where they grew up and took on the same accent as the people they were around. We talk so much about cultural appropriation with different races but with some of these girls- that was their "culture". They didn't have a clue about things we would consider to be typically "white". Even with their white mom &/or dad-thats how they lived.
I sincerely that I am making sense. My children have a similar experience-they are 1/2 Kenyan & 1/2 Korean but for the most part are Koreans. That's not because I don't share any of my culture with them but they're born and being raised in S Korea so naturally they would adapt to the culture.
Thank you for interviewing, she is crazy talented and this movie and the way she brought it to life is amazing

I Love this movie and I watch it every time it comes on; Elvis' granddaughter (Riley Keough) was perfect for this role; we've all known "hood" White girls and that "Blaccent" felt very authentic.
Girls like the Stefani character they're not faking it; this is who they are, you take anyone and put them in and around another culture during their formative years and they will adapt to that environment it's human nature......
