I think this might have something to relate with a surgery he had in 95 or 96, because in the comments on the letterman performance, a comment said that he had gone through surgery and was in physical pain, hence why he looked so pained. That’s also why Matt sharp was so energetic in this, to draw less attention towards rivers
My favorite Weezer song of all time, I still have my original blue album, it's priceless to me, first album I could listen straight thru and not skip any songs
@@shtinkodid you forget about butterfly? it's the only bad song on the album, and the closer to add to that. the closing song should've been longtime sunshine, if you ask me.
@@RedpillRetreat lemme reword myself. no one else is the prequel to world has turned. probably was rivers reconsidering what lead up to world has turned, totally a pinkerton move years before pinkerton.
@WilshirecityBlues he offset rivers' awkward seriousness really nicely, and gave the band a quirkiness that's been lacking since he left. when i first heard weezer in 1994, it was that fun irreverence that made them stand out against all the other way-too-serious post-grunge major label alt-rock that was around at the time. that disappeared from the green album onwards. no disrespect to rivers, but the vibe is different without matt's energy.
@@mj.l I wish Mikey was on Maladroit, he was perfect for that album and had some killer backing vocals. Who knows, maybe he would've filled that gap. Unfortunately, I doubt that would have changed what happened to him in the end.
The Blue Album is one my favorites albums of all time... I mean, incredible songs, great riffs, tons of feedback, amazing solos... What else can you ask for?
rivers in this old performances looks like he was scared, too shy, I think inside he isn't like that, he looks like he was a nerd in his school days....maybe I'm wrong a great composer anyway
I purchased a LP copy of this album (Blue) a couple of weeks ago, its been on the turn table pretty much ever since, I'd never listened to it all the way through before that, and I have to say This album is AMAZING... sounds even better on a Record too! :P
All these comments crack me up. Bands evolve...period. Sure, Weezer was gonna be the "next Nirvana".... but their music was taken in a different direction, as was music in general as grunge began to fade rapidly around '96. ..... makes you wonder what Nirvana would be putting out today (if anything). In any event, Weezer has always been "power pop" as defined by the '90's, '00's, and now '10's. Rivers Cuomo is very sharp and well educated; he's a very prolific writer that writes from his soul.
This video is just perfect, is just Weezer, the song is perfect and caracterizes Weezer, Rivers plays guitar and sings, has that haircut like in the cover of the Blue album and the Blue years, has this leg problem, Brian has that characteristic guitar and Matt was still in the band, Pat always was the same in the band, he didn't changed at all, that's great, I love this song and this video,,
i wonder if he's drunk, Rivers use to get drink quite alot actually. Said he would drink and play, helped him stay in his world. Forgot what the interview is called it's on youtube. Kinda sad actually but i do that too, so yeah.
He was going through leg surgery at the time, and he'd often drink during shows. And in an interview he said he'd get stage fright in almost everywhere he played.
MinecraftTerroristSchoolShootingSocialExperimentPrankInTheHoodGONEWRONGAlmostGotShotGONESEXUAL Yup, he did say that. Kinda depressing in the way he said it too.
Since Weezer's comments are turned off, I'll leave this here: I have been listening to the blue album everyday since December. Easily in my top 3 favorite albums of all time.
@LoveFromBelow1993 it must have been one of their first big public concerts, of I was there i'd be as pale as a dead and would loose my voice, they did pretty good
@57jakers Don't make assumtions about me either. I fell in love with weezer for the same reasons you did. The songs that speaks to me the most, more than any others are No One Else and The World has Turned. The story between those two songs describes me in a way that i can't.
@DunkRyan well this was like right after weezer was put on the map and also rivers used to have incredible stage fright...also his depressing/still posture adds a lot of emotion to an already emotional song like this

The Blue album is the sound track to high school and Pinkerton is the soundtrack to college.
Agreed lol
Pinkerton is the soundtrack to everything after high school tbh
Edit:me realizing this is a 10 year old comment
@@MrMarshalltheninja nah pinkerton is the college album while ok human is the life-after-college album
Its the other way around for me lol

Pinkerton is high school

Ok Human is adulthoold
Who else thinks the blue album specifically has some of the greatest songs ever made?
Sure thing!
I also like pinkerton...
I do!
my favorite losers in the world
One of the best bands today
they might benerds but they certainly arent losers
personally love river's look in this video
He looks just like he did on the cover for the blue album
Can’t say the same for Brian! Looks like he stepped straight out of the Wonder Years
Me too
@@jamest3145He's wearing those goofy looking glasses to hide his eyebrows which he shaved off for some reason.
Greatest Weezer song ever.
I agree
I was just about to say that

That’s the way I see it
Heavyness, sadness, and emotions - best blend
One of the most underrated songs in their catalog.
Also "This is such a pity"

It's the #1 GOAT Weezer song.
my favourite weezer song rn, I'm genuinely obsessed
This and getchoo in my opinion. My two favourite weezer songs

Matt's falsetto backing vocals were part of what the old weezer so great. they should bring him back.

I totally loved the energy Matt brought to the live performances. I wish he'd stayed with the band all these years.

Aww Look at River's stage fright. He's admitted to looking at his feet until the Green album era.
That's what was so great about early Weezer, the emotional rawness on album, *and* live

I really wish we could have gotten more sounds from Brian’s SG Melody Maker, such a rare, underrated guitar.
If only it wasn't stolen...
This hits hard, even 27 years later.
Even 14 years after this gem was uploaded to UA-cam.
Brians that rhytm guitarist that doesn't understand what the song is about, he just plays it and looks happy

The world has turned and left me here
Just where I was before you appeared
And in your place an empty space
Has filled the void behind my face
I just made love with your sweet memory
One thousand times in my head
You said you loved it more than ever
You said
You remain turned away
Turning further every day
The world has turned and left me here
Just where I was before you appeared
And in your place an empty space
Has filled the void behind my face
I talked for hours to your wallet photograph
And you just listened
You laughed enchanted by my intellect
Or maybe you didn't
You remain turned away
Turning further every day
The world has turned and left me here
Just where I was before you appeared
And in your place an empty space
Has filled the void behind my face
You remain, turned away
Turning further every day
The world has turned and left me here
Just where I was before you appeared
And in your place, an empty space
Has filled the void behind my face
