  • Started of 2024 with our first track day just a few days in at Sebring Raceway! Super excited and such a blast! Unfortunately during my 3rd session I had an OFF that caused some damage to the radiator support and radiator.
    During my 3rd session mistakes and aggression in my driving caused my tires to get greasy which I can feel my car sliding and rotating more than usual. I became hyper focused on my lap times since they kept decreasing and a few laps in I paid the price when I gave the car input on turn 5 and it understeered allowing my rear tire to drive over the clay and sending me into a small rotation and ultimately sending me into the grass.
    it sucks, but you definitely learn and im excited to get the car repaired and back out on track soon!

    Nicely done bud. Any race day event you can walk away from is a good one. Sometimes you get a couple of scars, dents, busted parts, or even broken bones depending on circumstances on the course. How far you push your limits are up to your comfort level with the car you drive and the knowledge you have of the track. Slow is smooth but smooth is fast is a philosophy every racecar driver needs to practice. Overall, you did pretty well, Sebring is a really tough track that will wear on both driver and vehicle no matter how good either are.
    Looking forward to your next one bud. Keep at it, never give up, push where you can, and leave the rest eating dust.

      Thanks! Definitely going to work on being smoother, and continue to learn, absorb and test my limits. The car is just cosmetic and im perfectly fine thankfully!

      @@SloJoeRacing That's a definite "Win Win" in my book bud. What all will need to be replaced on the Z?

    • @SloJoeRacing
      @SloJoeRacing  8 місяців тому +1

      Definitely have to replace the ZR-1 Front lip. That was destroyed. Have to repair my passenger fog and marker light, but just needs to be remounted. Initially we saw coolant leaking so we assumed the radiator might have cracked. From looking at it in the garage it seems the coolant overflow hose that connects to the steam port Tee has broken which is a weak point, so I ordered a stainless steel one now. Waiting to take the bumper off this weekend and look through it to see what else might need attention.

      @SloJoeRacing Also, have a look at your engine cradle as that would be prone to cracking from excessive stress followed by motor mount points and trans axle mount points. They tend to crack under too much stress.
      Best of luck with the rebuild bud. I'm looking forward to your next video with the Z.

    Great video and glad to see you improving in every single session. Too bad to see the damage but this is motorsport. Try to work on your heel and toe 7:40. This could be worse than what you have experienced. Being calm is a key here with manual stick and specially with handling this beast.
    But far from it keep it up and have a good one.

      Thanks! Yeah I really need to master heel and toe. Had a few stints where I let clutch out too late and I would upset the car. Definitely one of my goals!

    Great job man! For next driving videos, it could be possible to fix a camera on the pedalbox to film your footwork please? :)

      Yeah, great idea! I’ll be out in March if all goes to plan and will record the footwork!

    You definitely needs bucket seats at this level of performance. Half your body is off the seat in high G corners, it will really help with mental and physical fatigue if you don't have to focus on controlling yourself and the car.

    • @SloJoeRacing
      @SloJoeRacing  6 місяців тому

      I totally agree! Not only was my body beat up the next day. After reviewing how I was driving it was like I was on a motorcycle and more focused on locking myself in place rather handling the car.

    What weight oil are you using? Oil pressure seems to be on the lower side for the temps it was seeing, maybe something id look into with an oil sample to check for any wear materials. Just a heads up. Glad the car wasnt wrecked! Nice driving

    • @SloJoeRacing
      @SloJoeRacing  7 місяців тому

      Yeah I actually pulled off earlier in one of my sessions I was concerned about the same! I’m running 5w40. Thinking of going up to 50!

      @@SloJoeRacingthats more of a band aid to bigger issue. definitely start with a oil analysis as the rod bearings wear on these cars quite quickly and cause lower oil pressure.

    • @SloJoeRacing
      @SloJoeRacing  7 місяців тому

      Yeah, going to get an analysis done! What pressures are on your seeing on track?

      @@SloJoeRacing my data log shows an average of 60~psi, regardless of temperatures as low low 50s and as high as in the 80s. I run 10w40 amsoil zrod. I highly recommend an oil with high zinc. What is your idle oil pressure when at running temperature (200+F)

    • @SloJoeRacing
      @SloJoeRacing  7 місяців тому

      @@louiC6Z it doesn’t go lower than 20psi at idle. I might have seen 18 once or twice, but have read that’s pretty normal at idle

    That sucks about the car getting damaged.
    Turn 5 is deceiving slow and for a high power RWD car you should turn in way later then you were, many many of us have spun right there 😂

      @SloJoeRacing  7 місяців тому

      Yeah man totally screwed the pooch. Tires were hot and greasy I turned in early and noticed understeer but reacted too slow. Hoping to be back at Sebring to redeem myself real soon!
