Totally agree, While i was filming this documentary i came to realise that if it wasn't for the members of the public and the voluntary groups that hand out clothes and warm food these people would be in a much worse circumstance, THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE IN A 1ST WORLD COUNTRY
Don’t fall for it. The people who are suffering don’t make it blatant. The people society should focus on helping are the working class and people that help keep society running.

@brass monkey you have limited to no knowledge and are showing your ignorance. I can assure you that most voluntary workers do have jobs and do this work to help out their community in crisis. Remember that not only do they give their time for free, they use their cars incurring wear and tear, fuel costs plus damage to their vehicles. Put their own hand in their own pockets to help others. Also sacrifice their quality time with their families to help. Without such kind hearted souls many people would go without food in their bellies and clothes on their backs if these lovely people did not help.

I cant pass a homeless person without giving my last bit of change or buying them some hot food or drink, it kills me to see people like this makes me feel sad that I'm going to a home with the heating on and a full meal, I wish I had a massive mansion so I could move all the homeless in and look after all of them, the world getting worse until our Lord returns it wont get better but until then keep smiling and love one of another ❤
Most people aren’t just homeless and that’s it - the people sleeping on the streets are usually either alcoholics or drug addicts or violent, they fall into one of those three categories so you could take them in but all your shit would be gone and sold for drink and drugs within the first few hours, nice gesture and nice idea but not realistic even if you did have a mansion
I was homeless for a short time due to breakup and job loss , it was soul destroying. I turned it around by going away to work and living in , it was the best thing I ever done . I never walk past a person on the streets , allways but hot drinks food etc , talk to them .

I was once stopped by a PSCO giving some money to homeless in Wolverhampton. He asked what i was doing i told what i do with my money has nothing to do with him and to basically mind his own business, he was none too happy, asking me for details, and eventually calling a Real Policeman who upon explaining that i was giving my cash of my own free will, told the PCSO to walk on.

Sad in this day in age that our own UK citizens are left like this..it can happen to any of us.I been homeless twice but never ended up on the street..These people are warriors...as I sleep in my bed tonight warm and safe my heart goes out to them.
As someone that came from the streets of Birmingham city centre myself 16 years ago the soup run and fireside kept me going bk then, bham was good to me! Drugline helped me alot too! Iv been clean from class a drugs for 15 years now there is hope 💞 Si 😱its good to see you still around all this time later so many have been lost along the way 💞
So true. Only if someone has run away from a parent who's repeatedly raped them before falling prey to strangers who've raped them and then ended up on the streets out of fear of people can they turn around and judge someone who doesn't seem happy with having a house and that's all.
that woman in the pompom hat with the blanket conned me and upset my child !!!! she had £30 off me for a supposed hostel then i saw her hand it to a man in exchange for something being passed to her. i had £60 odd left until i got paid on the friday. i work and cant afford luxuries, that money was from my heart. someone actually told me she has a flat and a bus driver told me she lives in a high rise, gets the bus into town every day to beg for drug money. wont be conned again!!!!
I'm so sorry that happened to you. That's why I no longer give large sums, only 20c, 30c. I hope the universe pays you back for your generosity. Maybe play a lottery ticket this week.
Strange how the majority of homeless seem to be British ? Yet Council houses , BnBs and Hotels up and down the Country seem to be full with Foreign nationals ??
Hard to believe in 2021, people still live like this, it's heartbreaking and disgusting, the government have a lot to answer for. How can someone that has served this country, be treated so badly 😔. Where I live ( Sheffield) it's pretty apparent the people that are suffering and those that aren't, never see a homeless Roma🤷🏾♀️.

200 HOMELESS IN NORWICH 300 HOMELESS IN OXFORD 400 HOMELESS IN CAMBRIDGE THE LIST GOES ON, MAKES ME WONDER ARE THE GOVERNMENT LEAVING THEM TO DIE IN THE STREETS??? ITS A GOOD QUESTION&IT DESERVES A GOOD ANSWER ASAP
Those idiots claiming to have been in the Army are lying through their teeth, As a ex serviceman every time I see a professional bigger claiming to be ex services I speak to them and they are just scammers lying as they know gullible people will then give them money for drugs. DONT be fooled by professional beggars .
We can print money but yet we cant ensure equal quality of life for all humans...very saddening. Godbless the people who spend their money, energy, and time to help others get back on their feet.
Printing more money reduces its economic value. It's not nice to see homelessness, and i wish the answer was just people giving more money to them but like all problems it's multifaceted.
What's unequal? law applies equally to us as it does to homeless, these people clearly have deep issues. If homelessness was an easy problem to solve, it would already be solved.
The only person who can help you is yourself, the willingness to try, to change, I was homeless few years back was lazy, committed crime, went to prison, sat in my cell one evening looked out the window, seen the yard couple trees and a patch of grass, I looked up seen the stars my Mind went to a place I’ve never witnessed, was a stare into the unknown, I sat back down and realised there’s a whole world out there to explore, 3 years on from my release baring in mind left with nothing or nobody, I have a nice house with my girlfriend, I have a job, a nice car, I’m saving money, where as before I couldn’t. I have responsibilities to cook, clean, provide. All I’m saying is don’t give up. Keep trying cause when you finally achieve it’s the best feeling in the world.. god bless you all, it remember it’s down to you.
I can relate, Thanks for sharing your story man I've been where you've been I'm glad I had a long hard look at myself when I was younger because I would be dead now. Now I have my own family and the rest is history, Peace and Love ❤
@Andy H you start with yourself, your mind, your strength to change? Drug rehabilitation, Alcoholics Anonymous go to the council sign up for housing, change your appearance, look smart, speak with a sense of enthusiasm, if people see your committed more opportunities will arise. Take a step at a time, don’t associate with people who don’t want to change, if you associate with millionaires you’ll become one, associate with drug takers and criminals you’ll become just that!
Thanks for sharing your story. I have the privilege of knowing someone like you. A foster child who slipped through the system thanks to foster parents only interested in the money. Lived his teenage years on the streets. Did some time in prison and was released back to the streets. But he did something about it. Now he gets the mental health care he needed all along and with the correct meds he now has a full time job, a home and a lovely girlfriend. It wasn't easy for him - but he did it and I am so proud of him.

Very good Documentary. Feel a deep sorrow for anyone in a position like this. People who speak bad about the homeless ain't got no right to judge or say anything if they haven't got a clue what it is like to experience homelessness.

I have been homeless but have never been on the streets. Homelessness is seen in many ways and comes in many forms. It's not nice way to live. It's difficult in all weather's whether you live in a tent or not. If you have ever been camping, you will know how it feels. How cold the nights become in both the summer and winter, how when you become older it affects your joints, how sleeping on a cold floor really doesn't help your body. The cold really does get to you with the temperatures dropping sometimes below zero degrees.
Yes but remember not to be racist I can see where your comment is heading. Illegal immigrants are obviously not good but don’t you dare get that mixed up with LEGAL immigrants
I honestly cried watching this... heartbreaking💔😔. I don’t know how they do it and how on earth do they do it every single day and carry on and fight every single day. I would have given up by now. There so strong.
I always talk to the homeless, well I used to anyway before covid, haven't been out in months but they're still people. Don't get me wrong some can be nasty people but that doesn't mean all homeless people deserve to get tared with the same brush. I was homeless at 17 until i was 19 because stupid mistakes I made when I was younger involving drugs. Out of all the homeless people I've met maybe 10% were horrible junkies, but the rest were normal people, just in a bad place in their life.... So sad that these people get looked at the way they do.
My heart breaks for all those homeless.that poor man in a wheelchair should be in a nice warm home, no one should turn their backs on these poor people.the way I look at it they could be my son or daughter.god help them all and look after them.xx Tina Ireland.
We as a society, need to do all we can to help the homeless. We need a compassionate society, not the greedy, selfishness society we are becoming more and more.
This makes me so sad 😞 😥, but also blessed. I may not be rich but i have a roof over my head, tv, internet and food. Makes me sad seeinf others in this situation 😢 xxx
I hear that: "Carers" & Helpers just want you to do what they want" - When I was trying to recover from my Stroke in Hospital, staff only did as little as possible that is convenient to them. Since Feb. 2018, nobody has given a toss about me or even asked me what I want, or what I know is best for me.
Plenty of provision in Birmingham. It's largely other issues such as addiction with drugs and alcohol and mental health which infringes people's ability to access the help. Eg can you abide by the rules of the accommodation offered? If you had a flat eventually can you run and maintain it and pay bills and rent if you have significant addiction issues and or mental health issues alongside that.
No one chooses to be on street. People often have addiction problems and or mental health issues. Lack of family support . We need to have a holistic approach to solving homelessness. And it starts with compassion.
@@victoriadalrymple6497 what are you going to do when they tell you they aren't interested in your compassion? And many people do choose to be on the street, that's a basic fact you would know if you had been there. I have.
@@snowflakemelter1172 people get stuck on the streets for many different reasons. That is very different to choosing the streets. And every one deserves compassion and help. Some people are simply not in the right place at the time the offer of help is given. It's don't mean we shouldn't try and continue to try
@@victoriadalrymple6497 compassion can also involve a harsh decisions that people dont like but is for their own good, homeless has become a lifestyle choice for some because charities and councils have pandered to them, they are getting everything for free and more people are joining them.
I'm sorry, but these people need to help themselves too, I know it's not always the case, but a lot of these, no matter how much you help them, they'll just take the help, but not put any of their own motivation in, so when the help stops, instead of carrying on with good progress, they just go straight back to the street... and before people chip in from what I say, I know a few of these people here, some deserve the help, some don't...
I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to sleep rough. I hope everyone who is homeless stay safe and their situations improve for the coming winter. 😢
I know a lot of these people 😢 I was on the streets myself 2015 with Nathan Davis who had sadly died now 🥺 he really looked after me ❤❤❤❤ RIP Nath love u ❤
I had no mum or dad, grew up in poverty, bullied at school, my brother committed suicide, I was sexually abused as a child but I got on with my life and moved on and worked hard to better myself. you either live in a world of shit or you take ownership for yourself and make it happen for you, no one gives you nothing you make it for yourself. thank you.
This is a great very well made documentary congrats! I was in Birmingham in 2018 and couldn’t believe how often I was being approached by homeless people for change
And me we have a few where I shop I'm seventy there are two lads in wheelchairs with parts of legs off through drugs they don't ask me for money we talk I love them they are someone's sons x
:( people always turn their noses up at homeless thinking they just have drug addictions or criminals. WRONG usually regular people like us and their lives turned upside down... we should be kind always.
So true..the way some people just assume that people who they see on the streets are drunkards and drug addicts is a disgrace. I think it's because they don't want to be made to feel guilty and it shows who they really are.
I don't mind when I give money and they spend it on beer or drugs, living on the streets freezing cold they need it to bear what there existence is,must be so hard for them, you get ppl who take the piss, but must be so hard,if it was me I'd rather be in prison
So what about the homeless veterans??? I suppose they bring it on themselves do they. Or the homeless who don't take drink or drugs what about them??? You must be a moron to think all homeless are druggies or your not very aware of your surroundings.!!!!
I don't think I'm better than anyone including the homeless I don't judge people.!!!! but I can't say the same for you. Yeah you've got a real high opinion of yourself ain't ya pal 😂

Give these guys rooms in one of the disbanded Army barracks with some support to finds jobs or retrain for a new career. Give them a safe place. Support with addiction if needed. Instead of giving this accomodations to refugee's that burn down these accomodations. The homeless veterans would thrive appreciate it.
London homeless issue is far worse bigger than Birmingham with locals born and bred being pushed out of Thier capital city and the rich class taking over London destroying London .
We should always respect homeless people they are in this situation it's not their fault sometimes circumstances in life put these people in these positions. I always take time out & speak to the homeless & you would be surprised where they come from. Always help & respect them. 💯👍
@@towaritchthe streets are an institution for many. A lot do not trust people and no wonder. A lot have troubled backgrounds fleeing from abuse then became addicts. Trace back their ancestry and there will be issues such as crime, died in on battlefields and the workhouse for some of them. Those issues do not just leave generations in so many cases. All this is hypothetical but it will be there for some. Its spiritual healing this country needs along with true financial support and education. Proper financial education and a huge rental and cost of living decrease. Better wages etc too.
Some people can't be helped, they're lost and that's how they want to be. You can't just take. Having said that some people genuinely would benefit from help.
i get that, a homeless shelter was quickly assembled right across the street from my apartment building a couple years ago in Canada, and the ones living there continue to do drugs and alcohol, even though rehab services is also made available to them, they accept the room, warm bed and meals but refuse any form of detox therapy, which is why security guards are in duty there around the clock!!! they don't need housing they need to be institutionalized!!!!!
@@phoenixman8569 Might help if you had even the slightest idea as to why individuals decide to take drugs, drink etc. Unless you've suffered from addiction you should keep your ignorant opinions to yourself as its pretty obvious you haven't a clue what your talking about.
It is do sad to see,we are supposed to be a developed country.Yet human beings are left to live on the street like stray dogs, but the difference is,a stray dog would be put into kennels and given something to eat and made comfortable. It is all so wrong, our government is rubbish and corrupt, having one goal and that is to look after themselves. They don't live or have ever experienced the real world.
They aren't left to live on the streets, they have refused to be housed, have drink our drug issues they are not willing to deal with or have been struck off the council housing list because they vandalsed the property or were anti social neighbours.
But a stray dog don't do drugs and drink but someone people do and don't change and stray dog get just as bad so why shouldn't thay get help tooo sorry i dont think any human should be over a dog cat whatever animal we are all. Liveing and feel pain but human can work and have change animals can't becaues human are better sorry no I'm a child and I would pick a dog over a homeless person becaues a person can figth for them selfs but a animal can't
To them who has done this documentary, bloody well done. This world is changing for the better, very slowly but al least it is changing, well that’s how I would like to believe is happening. P.S Human Kind we should all be and not Human Beings.
This country is going downhill! No matter how citizens are helping, council and gov should provide these people skills and jobs rather than just handing them money
I had enough for a deposit on a house then ended up living on the side of the road in Bristol. Things happen but thankfully I had friends/support. It is a lonely life
I'm a Dutchman and in May 2017 I was having a holiday in Birmingham for the 1st time. I was staying at a hotel in the New Street very near the station. And I was quite shocked seeing so many homeless people/drug addicts in the surroundings!
most countries still have pleny of space to build more and more homes, england however is a conserved country, the breeding population continues to double but the houses remain the same amount, so the surplus population must do whatever, hey, goto spain! you can live there for a bit, but you will die there.
Thank you for creating this .. a topic that always needs to be addressed. I hope the last man finds the courage to continue building his life. My services are offers to all who requires help and guidance with getting back to work and reforming the basics. Building a cv etc and taking steps to a life of living for the shadowed members of the community.
I recognise a few of these people, I used to give them money after work but I haven't been into the office since March due to lockdown :( I hope they're ok, must be even harder for them now less people are in town to help out. Heartbreaking.
This is such a difficult thing, I’ve spoken to and helped many homeless individuals over the years. I never give money only buy food and talk to them. I’ve met some really nice people..But recently I was followed out of a supermarket across two streets by a guy begging for money. As a woman walking alone at night this was so scary. There’s a fine line between asking for help and intimidation.
Yes i dont give money and i have been insulted by a homeless person because of this. I used to give food but on a few occassions i was insulted back "i dont want your fucking food!" Etc.
You can see that a lot of these people are clearly dealing with addiction. If they address that first and foremost, only then can they start moving forwards and trying to get themselves off the street. If not, they're going to be stuck in a rut, I'm afraid.
It’s really awful to see I lived in Birmingham for 3 years whilst in university and I always helped when I could especially during the pandemic. I have offered to pay for homeless peoples food when they tried to pay in cash ( during pandemic ) , I’ve bought those with pets some food for them and toys and blankets( a homeless guy who had two adorable pitbulls and so much more. My dad has also been homeless living in hostels and seeing my own father not have a secure home really hurt. The government do NOT do enough for these people, even worse when they’re moving them in from places they feel safe and where they can sleep. Unless they can suggest somewhere else that is better then they shouldn’t be moved.
That women saying the food is ridiculous how about your just ungrateful there are people in this world getting no food this is the type of people I hate
£40 a fortnight for a roof over your head, two slices of bread, cereal and coffee for breakfast each morning & pasta/rice for tea. Not sure why she'd turn her nose up at that.
Because it was rat infected and having just rice/pasta everyday will make you sick. I know it sounds snobby but having that all the time will drive you mad.
I guess I'm not helping people like they used to. This is why I tell people of our life is at a good making a move to do. Are you gonna to forward a Van? And you're leaving a decent life right now by a car to Van. Turning to a nice home so if anything performs you, you have your home in your Van and let it be comfortable. That's why I built a camp event to bug out and to leave if anything happens to me. I know I have a place to go always.
We should plant native fruit trees in public parks, unoccupied urban areas, poor neighborhoods and schools to promote healthy eating and provide at least a snack to those in need. I understand this solution will take time but nature just need a seed and few days of care and rest it will take care of. You can watch a video on how to plant a local fruit tree using a seed. Even if 1 out of your 10 trees survives, it will feed many generations. Think about it. Take action...
The lady at 10:20 ISH summed up this whole documentary for me. There is a place where these ppl can live and go. And stay there to get on their feet. But majority choose to go on the streets because they have their personal preferences of how they want to live. She stated the place was a shit hole with rats and only a crumb and a hot drink given to ya with some basic hot meal at night..... But she preferred to be on the streets then that. I feel their altogether life style is the issue not just the fact that they are homeless.
Its all up to what you want to do in.life i know many who changed their life around from.drug addiction which is stopping alot them to progress once your on drugs you fall lazy you.get use to.begging and sleeping on streets etc. And in.brum derz plenty of support ask those who live in 3rd world countries and and nothing
The bloke at 19:00 is such a pure-hearted angel. God bless him. He should train to be a priest and lead others to true faith. It's rare to see such humility and grace of spirit, even among the homeless.
I think there's a lot of help out there to get this food as close. You can get for free. You gotta know where to go I think that's why people don't want to do that. They're priorities too high, but it is what it is. You gotta make the right choices and you won't end up on the street like this. In most cases, anyway.
Give me, give me give me... And it goes on and on and on... By, , helping " them, the,, Good samaritans" support this way of life. Thats how I see the situation.
The UK homeless are rich compared to other countries. Unless someone has lost their ID, there's no excuse to not have at the very least a hostle. Most choose that lifestyle cause of drugs. There's just simply no excuse to be homeless in the UK. Even if they did loose their ID, if they wanted help there's organizations out there that can help.
Only when you've lived in the Hostols or on the st and know how it all works are you qualified to talk. Just over 4 years in the flat I found for myself b4 I was desperate to get out this city. Stab proof an bullet proof vests needed. Dropped like flys the murders in kingstanding alone.
I lived in Kingstanding for a while and the place was full of moronic wannabe gangsters who made my life hell. I'm a nice guy and mind my own business but I hope they all rot in hell for the trouble they caused me. Thankfully now I live in the countryside and don't have to deal with the low life scum anymore but I feel for those who are still there.
I always tell my daughter to never look down on a person, because you have no idea what has happened to them. Also, it could happen to you, they are human beings, and never lose your humanity.

Most of the time, these guys are going through something way deeper than just give them a house
So true. Only if someone has run away from a parent who's repeatedly raped them before falling prey to strangers who've raped them and then ended up on the streets out of fear of people can they turn around and judge someone who doesn't seem happy with having a house and that's all.

Well said...we should ALL help one another!!!

I always talk to the homeless, well I used to anyway before covid, haven't been out in months but they're still people. Don't get me wrong some can be nasty people but that doesn't mean all homeless people deserve to get tared with the same brush. Out of all the homeless people I've met maybe 10% were horrible junkies, but the rest were normal people, just in a bad place in their life.... So sad that these people get looked at the way they do.

Exactly, " homelessness" isn't about a lack of accommodation, most of the people you see on the street have no intention of living under a roof.

Respecting them doesn't mean enabling them to stay in the street, it s pulling them out. Tough love sometimes is necessary.

The ones in prime spots get more than we do for working our lives away...
No one never should not suffer anymore in this world.
It could have been Rich's to Rag's.. That's the reality we don't never comprehend....
For a man sleeping rough, Jack Leicester, while a bit untidy, is surprisingly clean and healthy looking.
Still, a nice kid. Pert enough.
You've never been in a hostel obviously. High rape, from the staff often. Violence, drug use, rats, dirt?

The UK homeless are rich compared to other countries. Unless someone has lost their ID, there's no excuse to not have at the very least a hostle. Most choose that lifestyle cause of drugs.
