On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 5-21-23.
We're looking at a 1970 Buick Riviera in Bamboo Cream Paint. The car comes with the 455 CI V8 engine and has an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Roberto Rodriguez. Roberto has had this car since 2021. He shared that he wanted a 1970 Buick Riviera for 25 years, however, seems life responsibilities kept him from getting the car. But now that his kids are grown it was time to find the car, and you can see he found it.

Man, they just don't make art like that anymore.
:-)
What a great Riv'! As a one year only, we just don't get to see too many of them & this one sets the bar pretty high for the next one. Thanks for finding and sharing Mr. Rodriguez and his fantastic Buick with all of us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read "What a great Riv!" :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Lou. You never fail to bring us all the fine classics. Thank you.
Hi David, My pleasure sharing the classics with you. You're welcome, Lou
Wild looking with the fender skirts, remember those cars well.
Hi Scott, Happy to read you remember this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Very nice Riviera! I had forgotten about that body style.
A real classic. Thanks Lou and Roberto!
Hi Jeff, I can understand why you'd forget, because it's not easy to find one like this anymore :-) You're welcome, Lou
😍Beautiful Riv!!!!!!!👍

Hi Jaime, I agree, the chrome is very unique on this car, and becomes much to do with styling, than just slap more shiny stuff on areas of the car. My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
That’s my uncle lol! My childhood with him is amazing
Hi Sergio, NICE! Lou
Roberto has a Gem. The 70 is elegant and my favorite yr Riviera.
Hi David, Happy to share this "gem" with you :-) Lou
1970, the redheaded stepchild of the 1963-1973 Rivieras, is my favorite.
Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours.
I have one now and I’ve had it for 40 years. It is somewhat infamous compared to its siblings. But, highest horsepower production Buick engine ever. PS mine is nicer than that one.
These years were sleek and stylish. Very much luxury muscle crossover of the era. The color combo and having it original or close to it helps. I would change out the exhaust tips or not have them but that's just me. The car still gets a huge thumbs up.
Hi K B, Happy to read this one gets a "huge thumb up" :-) Lou
Had a 69 Buick Riviera. 430-400 Turbo transmission. These are Great car's. 🇺🇸🏁
Hi Mark, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi Lou! I finally decided to take the time to watch this wonderful video of the 1970 Riviera. Whether the '70 was liked or not liked, there's no getting around its overall beauty (I think it's beautiful!) and its performance. That 455 underhood really helps the car move along (though the roughly 9 or 10 miles per gallon is nothing to crow about). And there's nothing like the good old sound of vintage Buick performance! That slight drop in the front suspension can be easily changed. I'm not sure how many know this, but there were two types of fender skirts available for the '70 Riviera : the full coverage style as seen here, and a blade-like style that left the rear wheels visible. Perhaps the owner can switch them out, but hey, as long as he's happy, it's his car! The steering wheel can be changed back to stock too, very easily. Buick manufactured 37,336 Rivieras for the 1970 model year - a sharp drop from the nearly 53,000 from the previous year.
Thanks again, Lou, for another car story. Keep them coming, as you always do! _(6/5/2023)_
Hi Know Bodies Full, Happy to read you took the time to watch this video :-) Thanks for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
The 455 was the final evolution of the 430...In 1970, the 455 still had plenty of power, but starting in 71, most vehicles had to throttle back on the hp, due to emission requirements. I owned a 72 Electra with that 455, but was slightly miffed that the power had dropped down to around 310hp by then. It still was fairly powerful. You cannot beat cubic inches for power, at least in those days!
Good day Lou,
What a beautiful Riviera, & yes they look different in a very elegant way.
The colour combination is so spot on & not a bad angle on it.
Elegance with muscle.
Now you have peaked my interest in 1970 Riviera’s so now I have to learn more about them.
What a name “ Bamboo Cream “.
Cheers
Louis Kats your number 1 Fan in Australia ( Melbourne ). 👍 🇦🇺 😊 🇺🇸
Good day Louis, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad to read I've peaked your interest as well. Thanks for being my # 1 Fan in Australia. Cheers, Lou
What a nice land yacht. Love the dropped down front, and the engine sound is like the music to my ears. Great video Lou!
Hi Zach, "What a nice land yacht." ALL ABOARD! :-)
Same as Mercedes and Bentley.
I owned a new 1967 GS and traded that for a new 1969 GS. Once I saw the 1970 Riv, that was the end of my love affair with that series. Not sure what designers were thinking but this video proves the "like factor" can extend even to this car.
Hi R Troxel, Happy to read this brings back memories of the cars you had, Lou
I would say you did not like the changes. For younger people looking back they are all genuinely lovely looking cars.
I COMMENTED BEFORE BUT MY GPA WOULD'VE LOVED THIS CHANNEL ON UA-cam. ❤🎉 THANK YOU GUYS
Hi licence1001011, YOU'RE WELCOME!
this is piece of art
High praise :-)
Cruising in style, and definitely in comfort, thnx for the show. . . :>/
You're right. You're welcome.
Nice Bill Mitchell styling. Both Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell both had an eye for great styling.
Hi Nicky, Happy to read you enjoy the styling of this car :-) Lou

Happy to share this "sweet ride" with you :-)
I almost got a used one once when I was in my 20's. I think it was the same color too. A large "personal luxury" car that almost had a "super-fly" luxo-look! :)
Hi Joseph, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the car you almost purchased :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
1970 brought the high compression 455 for the only year in the Riviera. I liked the body on the boattails better but they didn't have the power of this one. Thanks again Lou.
Hi Brian, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. You're welcome, Lou
Hi Lou, what a great looking buick, that is the best looking Riviera that they made in my book, thanks for an other great video.👍👍
Hi Philip, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Buick :-) You're welcome, Lou
1970 was a low bar style of the Riviera. One thing that will help, lose the back wheel cover skirts. It will make it not too heavy look in the back. Great job as always Lou!
Hi Pat, Thanks for viewing and sharing your thoughts on this car. Lou
@@loucostabile The Fender skirt option was brought out shortly after the 1970 style was released due to the dreadful slab side skirts from the original design.
So beautiful car...nice job...
Hi Lorenzo, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
That's one good looking car thanks 👍
You're welcome Rusty :-)
ABSOLUTELY STUPENDOUS CAR! ❤❤❤
High praise!
Back in my teenage years during the anything goes hair days of the 1970's , the older guys that drove Riviera's always had slicked back hair and pointy toed ankle boots....
Always.😎

I miss luxury cars! That thing is powerful too and has front wheel drive! This is pretty much an Eldorado by Buick. Gorgeous, ty Lou. Proud Mexican badge on front too! ❤
Hi Jeffrey, Happy to share this car with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Not a front drive, never was till 1979
It is not a FWD. 1979 was the first FWD Riviera.
She's not Front Drive...
Nice 🥰
Hi Michael, Happy to read & see "Nice" :-) Lou
Nice Buick & nice video. Please bring us your car video mr Lou. I did't see your car. It's original "my car story" really I hope that video soon.

Hi Сергій Шамін, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Hey big bro Lou!!! oh man....think my floppy sneakers have any chance😜? Or stockings for Johnny boy🤣? Roberto's Riviera is one huge, luscious cream puff, man. The perfect color for that big gal, too. I have never seen one of these Riv's! Like you said, before the wild boattail, this one is more conservative and yacht-like (at least to my JV baseball guy eyes⚾🤪). I love it, and the sound from that V8 with those big chrome pipes is pure music to a car guy's ears. No doubt some good psychotherapy right there, big bro Lou!! Thanks, brother. :) JV Johnny ⚾

Nice. Lots of real estate :)
I'm sure the 455 does the job.
Hi Glen, Happy to read you enjoy this "Nice." car :-) You're right, the 455 does just fine, Lou
@ 4:27 - it used to have a Riviera script badge on the glovebox, but was probably removed when the aftermarket wood grain kit was installed. The original vinyl woodgrain veneer gets destroyed by the sun on these, so I don't blame him for getting the kit installed.
Hi Milford, Thank you for sharing what you notice, Lou
Nice one, Lou beautiful curves, so much style in those days
Hi Norm, Happy to share this stylish car with you :-) Lou
nice i can remember a freind of mine grand mother she had a wild cat and when she filled up the tank the gas cap had a bad cork gasket and it would leak all the way home and we would set a bucket underneath the gas filler and bounce up and down on the trunk lid to get gas for our motorcycles we bought her a new gas cap for christmas lol
Hi scrappy junk, New gas cap for your Friends Grandmother. NICE! Lou
1970 Buick Riviera.
The Buick Riviera would be introduced in 1963, with the name originally used on the 1953 Buick Roadmaster as the "Buick Roadmaster Riviera" and "Buick Roadmaster Skylark" along with a concept car in 1962. It was a revolutionary car in terms of design because of its unique design that was from another world and the fact that it was a "Coke-Bottle" styled car due to the fact that if the car was on its side, it would look like a Coca-Cola Bottle (It was inspired by the 1962-1963 Studebaker Avanti, which unfortunately never saw the light of day due to many, MANY reasons). The car was introduced with a 401 cubic inch Buick "Nailhead" V8 (6.5 Litre V8) or a 425 cubic inch Buick "Nailhead" V8 (7.0 Litre V8) making approximately 325 to 340 horsepower. It would gain not only a facelift for the 1965 model year featuring a new grille and hide-away headlights, but it would also gain the "Gran Sport" package, which added Gran Sport badges and featured a new restyled interior. The Gran Sport package for the Riviera would last until 1976 on the 1974-1976 Riviera, which is one of Buick's longest cars in history.
For the 1966-1970 years, the Riviera got a new model/facelift in 1966 featuring a new front and back end/new interior but with the same coke-bottle style and with 425 cubic inch to 455 cubic inch Buick "Nailhead" V8s. This style would last until 1967, which in turn got another facelift in 1968. For 1968-1969, it featured square lights and actual hide-away headlights that were located next to the square headlights along with a new rear. For 1970, it would gain a complete redesign, featuring styling similar to other cars in 1970 such as the 1970 Oldsmobile 442 and 1970 Buick Skylark / 1970 Buick Electra 225.
Hi Matthew, Thanks for sharing your knowledge and adding info to the Channel, Lou
So gangsta!!😎
Just the way we like it :-)
Not so much a "one year body style" as a heavily restyled second generation model which lasted from 1966 to 1970. The C-pillar was altered, the hidden headlights (reduced warranty claims for GM) were eliminated, and fender skirts were added. The French-style bodyside molding was controversial at the time and sales of the 1970 model dipped considerably over the highly popular 1969 model. Sales of the Riviera were lousy for the 1971 to 1973 models (highly controversial) and even worse for the altered 1974 to 1976 models. However, sales were strong for the gorgeous 1979 to 1985 Riviera.
Hi SpockvsMcCoy Kirk, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou

Been years since I've seen one there sure make don't make them like that anymore it's in great shape looks great day to give it a cruise

i had a 70 GS in 75...
Hi Greg, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
There was a reason this one was a one-year only car. This model lost all its sportiness. My opinion and a lot of others too. We feel this was the worst of the Riviera line. I think it had something to do wth the skirts. No Riviera should ever have had wheel skirts! However, I really wanted to see your in-depth video style to really take another look at a car I would normally not pay much attention too. Let's see: the car sounds fantastic! That's the best I can say. Thanks Lou. Thumbs Up for Effort!
Hi Brian, Clearly this one is not for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
I had them on my 65' I made them. People bitched like hell. Made em for a Celica too...
@@jonowens460 I think they look really good on some cars...but not on the Riv. Sorry. Take care,

That car looks stunning but then again I am comparing it to modern cars.
I hate to see a clean, original, survivor car modified. I would rather see the suspension and steering wheel returned to stock. Otherwise, a very nice car.

Not my favorite Riviera, I prefer the 1966-67
