Man! Rashawn is such an inspiration, what he has to say about music, himself and life is literally feeding me. A true trumpet hero. Thanks for the interview. "Do what u need to do so you can do what you want to do"!
I finally understand what was meant by a horn should stay in tune from soft to fff. I am having some intonation problems with my horn. Told my trumpet teacher in todays lesson. He had me play p then fff open valve. No issues. First valve, major issues with tuning from pp to fff. Same with second valve. Leaky valve pressure, not much pop when you pull the slides. Time for a valve job. Thanks Rashawn! Just another great tip I can use when testing my next horn!
Omg! What a way to start 2022! Rashawn is my guy! Humble cat! He made it man! 🤗! Don't let him fool you , he is naturally gifted at playing the horn effortlessly 🤭 great interview!
Jose' this IS one of the best interviews you've had! I really enjoyed the part about introvert vs. extrovert personalities and yes, I can say that most people would believe me to be a huge extrovert, but I think I'm a closet introvert, hahahaha and YES, after putting on the "show" I am usually exhausted!
Great interview. I studied with Roy Stevens for 3 years in the early 70’s . Roy was a trumpet teacher the could tell you everything that is going on inside your mouth. It took a good year for me to get. After that I had it for 50 years. I taped recorded most of my lessons. I listened to my tapes often through the years. I think if Rashawn totally got the Stevens method. He would be twice the monster he is.
Thanks for bringing in the Stevens/Costello stuff and Larry Meregillano's CTS. This awareness needs to get out to the general trumpet community. More 'o dat.
