    Dave , the turret shields actually have totally different patterns on each side. The reverse sides have two boxes with crosses on them.

    I found that my cricut works amazingly for cutting styrene when I'm making star wars style grating/paneling. Didn't trust myself to do it by hand 😅

    I always appreciate the confidence you have in your skills. Week after week, you jump right into another project head-on, always seeing the finished project in your mind's eye, but never hesitating over how wrong it could go. Another factor in that would be your love of toys and the passion you have for the hobby. Thanks for another great video.

    Excellent job on this Dave, they look great. I actually took a bit of a leaf out of your book recently and bought one of those Liquide Chrome pens. I've re-chromed all the worn away bits on my original G1 Optimus, Devastator and Huffer, then took your advice about just making sure you then don't touch any of the re-chromed bits - so far they're looking excellent. I even used a smidge of PVA glue to re-stick all the curly edges of Optimus's slightly peel-ey stickers back down.

    Excellent, I truly enjoyed this video. Great results aswell. Maybe you can try using Rit synthetic dye, next time instead of spraying. It take really well to polycarbonate sheets. I'm curious how the fin would have looked if you tried that. Although, I have to say the yellow spray paint you had actually worked really well. Anyway just a suggestion to add something new to your arsenal of toy restoration. Cheers.

    Good stuff that plastic weld and i thought dave had printed the pattern on to the styrene sheet as he stuck it on so perfect i have to try the de burring with the metal ruler such a good idea

    They truly turned out, amazingly! My only gripe would be that the yellow needs to be brighter because it makes the fan tend to blend in with the orange parts and not stand out like it should. Otherwise, wouldn’t know the difference if I saw it next to the original. Great job, Dave!

    i watch more or less every video you put out, mainly because i love seeing how you go about fixing things, but this might actually be the first item you have done a video on that i own with the same issues, i might have to track down some styrene and give this a go.

    16:23 the shields are indeed double-sided, but with a different, double “X” pattern on the reverse. Your reproductions are quite impressive, particularly not having real examples on hand.

    I'm confused - Did you own an original shield thing as well, or what was the piece you contoured from? Looks great anyhow, probably the project where you've come closest to the original I think?

    • @toypolloi

      I have an original fin, but no shields. So I made the shields using photos I found online.

    • @lunarvision
      @lunarvision 6 місяців тому

      @@toypolloiHow do you get the photos you find online to be the proper, real life sizes? That part puzzled me.

    • @toypolloi

      @@lunarvision For this I measured the hole on the side of the gun mount as I knew the clip on the shield had to fit into that.

      @toypolloi  7 місяців тому +1

      They are an odd design as they only work in one mode and there is nowhere to store them when in vehicle mode. Which I guess is why they always get lost.

    The fin looks good in shape but color is too far off. I would try to drybrush it with a lemony yellow to lighten it then varnish.

      Thanks! 1 question....You make your own stickers.... What printer and stickersheet do you use to print on? Because if you apply this with a inktjet printer the stickers wil fade over short time due to uv sunlight.... Thanks in advance ..

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  7 місяців тому +1

      @stephsunny3673 I do use an inkjet and have not had any issues. You can always spray a clear lacquer onto the stickers before applying them.

    There's a vid on UA-cam somewhere, where a guy says he thought that when Hasbro stopped licencing TF's from Japan and started making their own - around the time of Transformers The Movie - the quality dropped noticeably. As an illustration, he showed Optimus Prime compared to Rodimus Prime. Looking at the two together it's hard not to see his point... a friend had Rodimus as a kid, and while I wanted him (and still do), I felt even then that the toy had a kid of disappointing cheapness to him. He only looked any good in vehicle mode.
    Good work on this as usual, Dave!

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  7 місяців тому

      I'll have to check it out. There is certainly a prime era of TFs for me. Rodimus is at the very end of what I collect.

    OUTSTANDING! You really did a fantastic job on the shields and especially the fin! Personally, I like the camel yellow better than the original colored plastic yellow piece. That camel yellow look somewhere between yellow and orange really ties this figure together quite well! Nice going!

    I never liked Rodimus because it's such a lazy effort at a figure, everything about it is disappointing from the lack of articulation to the extremely basic transformation but your work on it is fantastic, almost too good for that figure.
