Highlights of the Women's 100m Butterfly as USA's Dana Vollmer breaks the world record as she won Gold during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Swimming has featured on the programme of all editions of the Games since 1896. The very first Olympic events were freestyle (crawl) or breaststroke. Backstroke was added in 1904.
In the 1940s, breaststrokers discovered that they could go faster by bringing both arms forward over their heads. This practice was immediately forbidden in breaststroke, but gave birth to butterfly, whose first official appearance was at the 1956 Games in Melbourne. This style is now one of the four strokes used in competition.
Women's swimming became Olympic in 1912 at the Stockholm Games. Since then, it has been part of every edition of the Games. The men's and women's programmes are almost identical, as they contain the same number of events, with only one difference: the freestyle distance is 800 metres for women and 1,500 metres for men.

I can always feel the stress before the race while watching these
Butterflies in stomach
IKR, I fell like I am going to compete against them
I know the pressure because I've been in a swimming competition before :')
Peppa Pig Ikr
Gie Doodlz it’s called a competition or a swim meet 💀💀💀

@sOup SquAd tysm
I watched this on TV live. I was rooting for her. She was phenomenal. It's one of my favourite races ever.
What channel?
Before every single race my stomach feels weird because I'm so nervous. And if I really want to make a team record or something I push myself so hard that when I'm don't swimming I can barley move and I feel like throwing up. Just watching them get ready gets me nervous wondering how it would feel having pretty much your whole country counting on you. That would freak me out and how they push themselves so hard during the race, makes me feel like throwing up for them😂
+Sarah Yowell I feel you. though i kinda find myself good (not best of course) at swimming, but i still feel less confident to race anyone even a person that i know i can easily beat, and all that is because i'm super nervous in a level that heart beats rapidly when i'm watching olympics. weird
Yeah same! I notice when I race tho, I'm like scared of getting really out of breath and getting tired, weird right?
I'm always nervcited before my races. Nervous and excited
There is so much mental training involved in their training too
Oh my god SAME
Dana Vollmer is a swimmer who is full power and determination ! I want o be like her when I grow up !
Me too!
LPS Ashley
Develop a heart condition , then take strong drugs after operation to beat and grow stronger.
That's not doping but smartness
Convert your weakness into strength..
I get anxiety from watching these swimming videos and yet I can’t stop watching them.
My life goal summed up in one video.
same lol
i am dying at 50 meters fly..how about 100 meters!!!
50 is so easy 😂
+dana revey I can't even do 10 m
+Kawaii Kitty haha lol
u will lose energy after 50m so youll be slower at the second 50m but maybe about a 1:30.00
SmaxlaPvP Yea 35.7 seconds times 2 is not 1.21minutes
I am a competitive swimmer who is particularly a butterflier. I love her stroke even though I don't think she's swimming anymore
I get anxiety just from watching this😂
Infinite Mila same 😂 I'm a swimmer, and watching this makes me feel like I'm gonna have a heart attack as if I was actually there
Awesome race!!! Dana is a true champion!!!!
I understand that absolutely no one is going to believe me when I say this, but Dana Vollmer is from my town, Granbury Texas. When she was seven she was on the swim team that I am currently on, the Seals. We used to swim at a pool in the city park, and the pool is named after her. Welp bai
spill the tea sis i believe you that’s so cool haha!
Aww thanks!
No Matter who wins what, the beauty of butterfly swimming of each lady stress this beauty to its extreme.
😀
4:21
smart girl in the white cap not taking her mark yet. "it cuts off oxygen" -coach carrie
I can't even do the stroke right. These people train well.
So eloquent the butterfly 🦋 love it!
Elegant, not very eloquent of you…
Dana is from Texas, not far from where I live... Proud of this Texas lady!
Vollmer smoked 56.06, going 55.98. Her crew chief, Deric Kramer saw that record and he cheered "We broke the record. We just went 55.98 ! You go, girl !"
Butterfly is the hardest style of swimming....amazing Dana!
Can you upload when Sarah Sjöström won gold in rio 2016?
Every girl in these finals spent a whole life working so hard to get to this point.
The goddess in..
Breast: soni
Fly: vollmer
Back: franklin

Freestyle: Katie Ledecky
M8, Fly: Sarah Sjöström, uncontested
She is a MONSTER !!!!!!!❤
Is there any better word instead of monster
Sjostrom going to win in rio, and kazan, since she is untouchable in the 50 fly, and is know using her pure speed in the first lap and closing ability in the second lap.
+random channel 101 Sjostrom is unstoppable. She's smashing WRs left right and centre!
She is my fav. 🔥
Her stroke is masterpiece
11 years later and Sjöstrom is still smashing World Records... Ultra Elitè athlete
Who might have imagined Sjostrom winning gold in 50m and 100m in Paris 2024?!?
My 50 fly is 47 seconds I could only imagine this
4:16 is when they get on the blocks
The race starts at 4:25.
It looks easy but it’s not, I run out of breathe even when I’m just doing a 25 on butterfly 😩
She is such an inspiration
Oh God, poor me. I can't even swim :')
5:54 my tiers begin to fall😢😥
Congratulations on your retirement Dana! You've been a great representative for the US
I wish I could like this a billion times
She is from my town granbury Texas
Well done Dana... ,well done......
I guess the female swimmers are regularly over 6 feet tall. Vollmer is 6' 1". Katie Ledecky is 6 feet tall.
No room for the rest of us to compete.
She is a beauty
I hope to see Katie Ledeckety and other USA swimming members in the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
she just won an olympic but she kept it humble
Faster in the 4 x 100m medley relay she went 55.48
Rhyyys Sharrrp yes but she had a relay start in that therefore getting more momentum off of the start
Her finish wasn't even meh it was awful.
But in relay it always goes faster
It’s because of her finish and a relay start lol
This is probably the swim of the Olympics. Maybe just pipped by Agnel's 200fr.
She crushed this field.
dana's so amazing i love her! :D
The race starts at 4 mins 25 secs if you're wondering...
Indeed you also see it in the 200m butterfly from 2012, phelps did give his gold medal to le clos because he must do another stroke
Wow, this is an incredible swim. I can’t even do a 100 free that fast.
Some ones ability has nothing to do with you
Well, I can't even do a 100 free.
At all 😂
Vollmer is now training in the ocean with Ottesen. Go two strong girl, Tokyo 2020

I swim in galas and it’s so stressful and someday I want to swim in the Olympics cuz my coach swam in the olympics
Actually this record was broken in Kazan's wold swimming championships 2015 by Sarah Sjostrom with 55.64
montanak13 Right, but that was almost 3 years later. And done by Sjostrom, who had previously held the World Record.
you don't remember Phelps in Beijing? It is definitely better to take another short stroke than glide in.
How are they not tired? I swam the 100 fly today and got a JO but it is SOSOSOSOOSO hard! How?!?!?!?!
Ikr!
I've had years of practise, and swimming is extremely easy.
Rena Li what is your time?
I’m bored Send help my time is 1.10.06
I’m bored Send help whats yours?

94
I’m scared of swimming I’m only 8 years old
I'm just turned 11 years old and I go a 1:20 for my 100 meter fly and I go a 1:10 in my 100 fly. Is that good?
Frannie LeGrand I just turned 11 too and I go 1:13 and 1:08
Frannie LeGrand you are hella fast
Is 50 m fly really a sprint?
4:09
ITALYYYYYY ILARIA
Does she get iiiiiitt? She does! Remarkable!
Michael phelps les lleva 4 5 y hasta 6 segundos
6 second difference between men and women over 100m... shit that surprised me
Yes, because men are most quickly than women. It's nature
How old is she ?
can someone help me with butterfly trick
Vollmer went 55.98 and her crew chief, Tom Martino was cheering her on all the way. Donahue drew lane 2 there.
*absolute
their underwaters are amazing i could never omg
there is a 14 year old girl on my team who has a 59 for her 100 fly short course
That's okay but not that good
theres a 10 year old girl that has a 26 for her 50 free
+omglookitsallie My 50 free is 22.16 seconds .-. I'm only 11 1/2
+LegendZ Life (XxDarkFusionxX) 23.16*
Linus Jensen
I meant 27 sec
Vollmer saw the wall coming and her crew chief, Deric Kramer radioed to her that the wall was there.
She won by almost a second! It might seem a little suspicious, :l
Well phelps was almost 3 seconds ahead of his competitors in the 200 free at beijing
lol really now..suspicious? do you know how many people have broken world records by over a second....dude just look at that chinese swimmers who destroyed the world record
Well, even a milisecond (idk how you write it sorry) matters when it comes to swimming, you see, there are times that swimmers end the laps ALMOST at the same time, why almost? Because miliseconds are utterly important and that's why swimmers work on their times!
No one understands the importance of a millisecond like SWIMMERS do
You can always tweak and make your technique close to perfection. These swimmers work a lot on their turns as well. That's where they gain speed. All these broken World Records don't happen because of steroids or any other substances, it's just because there are way more resources for training than the were let's say 15 years ago.
They are so good they are even better than me
How can Ellen Gandy be British here but at the 2014 commonwealth games she was Australian
Omg amazing I couldn't omg I would have been so tired after that and would probably need a year to recover 😹
Qaszxcsxc
Ok
Why did Sjostrom choked?
WOW that's my girl I'm in USA😂😂😂😂😂
THAT WAS AN AWESOME SWIM!!!!!! But I feel like she coulda gone faster just cause of her finish😁
