Fab! I wouldn't have thought of this in a hundred years. This is a great lesson for me, who plays scales but has no idea what to do with them. This is great also for 'breaking though' to another realm of playing. Great presentation of this vital info, too. Thanks.
Thanks for this great explanation of the soloing possibilities for upcoming Blues Guitar players! THIS video should be first looked at by every (beginner) guitarist who wants to know where to start and will clearly see the way to go! Simply perfect teaching! 👌👏👏 - Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹!
Thank you! Your instructional technique is excellent and for an intermediate player who wants to get better, it's just the ticket. Many thanks for sharing.
This is a very cool and very clear informative video for ideas on how to improve. I've been playing the level 1 blues for a month now since I started guitar. Thank you!
I love the minor/major pentatonic thing. Fairly good on minor.. would like to broaden my horizons on the major. Love your instruction technique. Thanks for all your help. Hugs.
Thanx, great lesson and an "easy" way, how you explained a not so easy subject as mixing major and minor pentatonic and when to use what. Greetings from germany!
Woah, nearly came to Grief Mr Hamlin sir ;-) but persevered and will have much fun applying. My favourite lesson since starting guitar 3 yrs ago. Level 3 a lot a effort for the 5 chord so could you do a level 3 turnarounds video as a follow up, please? Big thanks for this and all your other lessons.
Great summary with really useful tips. One question. I thought in a prior video you said (or maybe it wasn't you) that when you are in key center, say A, you generally stay there even when the chords changes and do'n't switch pentatonic scales when the 4 and 5 come around? I think you said to target the Root, and maybe the 3rd, 5th, or b7. Maybe it wasn't you, but what about that strategy?
Interesting. Especially when explaining mixing major and minor pentatonic scales. On the everything is chord 1 method, it's only confusing if we think in terms of boxes, which to me is harmful to the brain (i.e., not making you think and turning you into a robot). I only look at the root node being the anchor of the scale, then the pattern is exactly the same with the fingers shifted down (for 4) and over (for 5), noting the change when passing over the B string, and it all makes sense, whether it's pentatonic or mixolydian.
Loving your dvd courses highly recommend. Great refresher might grab on of your DVDs I have I can do a refresher. Is that the new les paul Gibson 2017 such nice colour. I'm looking at saving more of my army pension and adding a Gibson les paul to my fenders. I love my blues / rock so like the traditional pickups. The high out put humbuckers are bit heavy for me. Neck size hhmmm I don't mind the 59 size other guy mentioned 60's slimmer.
Any chance this approach of Major Blues for the I Chord and Minor for the other Chords would also work over a Jazz Blues tune, like Billie's Bounce by Charlie Parker?
A " light bulb" moment for me. This is truly a great lesson by a FANTASTIC teacher. Many THANKS!
It took 3 years, but I finally understand it! Thanks!
this is one of the best lessons I've ever watched, been playing 40 years, ace, thanks griff

Great lesson. I really like that guitar. I'm in the process of building my own version of the blueshawk and I think it will end up being blue.
