I read the interviewer's line "I'll confess I haven't read all of it, it's a little on the longish side..." (the hardcover is all of 67 pages long!) as a little tip-o'-the-hat to the idea of bullshit right there.
INTERVIEWER: "I confess I haven't read it all of it, it's a little on the longish side" @ 0:36 Hardcover: 67 pages Publisher: Princeton University Press; 1 edition (January 30, 2005) Good start.
The concept of "bullshit" should not be so obscure, as it is essentially the heart of that modern industry known as 'marketing,' and therefore the heart of contemporary capitalism. "Bullshitting" is the practice of achieving a certain behavioral outcome through 'linguistic' means! Consumption has replaced the concept of civil society, therefore marketing has replaced dialogue, or civil discourse. In such a society, the 'truth,' or concrete realities, become irrelevant.
I kinda think that if you apply the university professors saying, "publish or perish" to this book you end up with a sort of fuck you to the general status quo of putting out bullshit books just to make your department look good. I really liked the book.
People are more tolerant about bull-shit than lying before they became more egoistic. Let me explain: Lying is usualy used to manipulate or trick us personaly and therefore we feel threatened if and when lied to. Bull-shitting threatens us less because it is performed in a way that nobody is directly attacked, it just gradually erodes truth - so we don't feel we lost anything - even if we did. If we were less focused on our limited personal gain we would value truth more and resent bullshit.
He says 'the motivation of a bullshitter, is not to say things that are true or even that are false"...this is true! The motivation of a bullshitter is to just say something that will benefit him/her regardless of its veracity. It's a completely self-serving mechanism. Sometimes it's just for the bullshitter to hear their own jaws flapping! Quite similar to a lot of university/college professors! LOL :-)
2:22 "The question of whether what he says is TRUE or FALSE is really irrelevant to his [the BULLSHITER's] pursuit of that ambition." WHAT WAS and IS TRUMP"s TRUE PURPOSE and AMBITION?
The difference between objective truth and objective false is very important for the religiously dogmatic, so no: as much as you may have seen a group in your cross-hairs to shoot at, I don’t believe that group would fall under this topic.
Frankfurt and Randi , two guy with white beards , all on the subject of debunking bullshit , these guys need a show and a good theme tune , something like this watch?v=2w7M8QSl3xg
Thanks for blocking me from your video after taking a couple of days to form your response. I'm asian by the way, and household income is well over $200k, so I am in no way trying to put down Asians with my comments. I am however pointing out that the stat can mislead those who lack knowledge of stats. My comments' purpose was to point that out, and you have deleted them. Way to keep an open forum. All you are doing is trying to force your viewpoints. Afraid much?
The western philosophy is fundamentally concerned about truth vs false, which gives rise to all sorts of debates and confusion at times...while in other cultures or civilizations, people are not generally so concerned about "truths" and even don't believe in absolute truth at all.
those hackers who are bullshitters with no education and zero logic. I had enough of them. I seriously hate men like all my exes and men I met this life, and those hackers who could only hack but either have low education levels or very stupid and with bad English levels...

As a person who sees the value in truth, I feel bullshit is threatening and offensive 🤷🏽♀️ I literally do not understand why anyone would think not. It is an attempt to deceive just the same while also as Frankfurt says no respect or value for the truth.
This is so relevant, and so close to the truth, it is relevant to any discussion on any topic you can think of.

That's ivy league tongue-in-cheek right there. Lol!
Wow, completely correct lmao
Explain me I don't understand exactly I need to write assignment from this topic
Great remark. Very witty too

I think ( I hope ) he was joking.
He was obviously making a joke. He holds the book up when he says it, and the author chuckles.
Frankly, I don't care whether he was joking or not.
Lordeverfall100 your reply was bullshit😁
haha. you dont get them
Classic! "What is the nature of bullshit?" asked in a straitlaced academic manner. Love it. Darn important subject though.
Words directly to my heart. Gonna find this book

Proud to say I ordered this book this week! This video was way too intriguing
Three cheers for this brave professor
The book should be called "How to be a successful politician/ For dummies."

Obama is a Liar &
Trump is a Bullshiter ?
Tony Blair must’ve read it
George Carlin would have liked this, for sure lol. RIP George

Thanks for the comment. Can you please post me a link?

I though there was a part 2, I guess I got bullshitted.
Thank you very much!
In the words of the incredible Robert Anton Wilson - the Universe contains a MAYBE.
This video defines the word "irony"
I’d like to know the origin of the term ‘bullshit’
My dad used to say "horseshit" and I knew what he meant.
Wow professor ( i think you really hammered this one down)
Glad I can see through the bullshit.

guess those two dislikes must have been from SPEP schools...
It’s not so strange how Tony Blair just came to mind

it is a though Frankfurt is describing religious dogma

Sounds like every day life
@jdbrown371 Agreed.
See Plato's Gorgias for an explanation.
i didnt know anyone else was into this kind of stuff..
Should this mean that a bullshitter should necessarily be unaware of the truth? Otherwise he would be a liar.
@jdbrown371 Amen!
Can you ah further ah, go into detail aboutabout the art of bullshit?
Lack of concern between what is true or false. 😉
Bullshit is an art?🤔
Ничего не понял, но очень интересно)
