- Jeramiah presents - "Ensoniq SQ1 - The Movie!" Out now on my own social media platforms in HD ! Jokes, Just geeking out on old skool 90's Synthesizers in the Laboratory! This thing was in the shed, fixed it with ice-cream container lids and after exploring and researching...I like it!
What a cool instrument!
My first 61 key synth! I crammed everything possible out of that sequencer in lack of delay for example (creativity coming from the tracker world). I revisited it 15 years afterwards and made more creative patches for it in a sort of retrospect. It lay the ground for my hobby musical journey so I respect the SQ1 more than others.
yeah I can relate, circa the mid-90s I was using my Amiga 500 and a 4 track recorder, I would sample myself from those recordings of me playing real-world instruments (guitar, piano, bass, drums and whatever else that was around) and use that to make music with Octamed! I think I could get 10-sec loops and one-shots and also make basic instrument patches then back to the 4 track and play over top and so on! tapes and floppy disks everywhere, eventually, I moved up to fast tracker and a Pentium 2 ! The SQ1 is a great synth for the time, when you get into its brain and use the transwaves (wavetables) you can get really nice sounds out of it once processed. 3 layers at once really. Built like a tank, a nice feel to play. I love running those old synths into hardware racks like guitar effects processors or multi-effects, also any old Casio tone takes on a whole new life doing that!! cool! J
@@jeramiahrossnzBlending trackers and 4-track tape sounds cool. I like the idea of using old romplers with effect pedals. My latest thing is to run the slightly newer JV2080 through a Strymon Deco or Eventide Space. I guess the Ensoniq thru a pedal would put a real smile on my face too.
@@FredF78 google bespoke synth, that can process real-time audio for that sound your after without the cost, so much freeware that sounds legit, if your soundcards ok, set it to 64 on the buffer and you can chain and modulate lots of plugins. a good time, along with all sorts of other fun stuff! i just record my jams and edit them later, or make sampler patches out of the results. yeah, i have an SC-880 that's so legit early 90s Roland sound! ha, love it!
I gigged with that and a Roland RS9 for years. It took a beating and is retired but still working flawlessly. Tweak it a little and it fattens right up. Never screwed with the seq. though. Mine is the Plus version... forgot what that means
Yeah man it's built like a tank, great feels for playing live with, mines mostly a midi controller, sometimes I'll run the onboard sounds into guitar multi fx for a good time with all that, the gsp21 rack. It's mid 80s legit also.
Thanks for posting! I've always wanted to hear the SQ-1, and it sounds a lot like my SQ-2. I wanted an SQ-1 because the instrument samples from the SNES Wolfenstein 3D are allegedly from an SQ-1.
The SQ-2 IS a SQ-1 but with more keys……
I played that in the '90s in a, for lack of better term, goth band. It was the lead singer's and he gave it to me to just create sounds.... And I'll tell ya, if you're willing to peck around for a while, you can come up with some amazing slowly evolving ambient stuff the likes of which I've never heard from any other synth. One of my favorites was an airy type of a sound - very bright HP type of a thing with periodic "blows" from the "gas" up into a "hot air ballon". It was really quite nice. Anyway, he ran into some financial trouble and needed to sell it, along with other gear. Ever since, through Moogs, Novation, Yamahas, Alesises, Waldorfs, etc, I've missed it. I just found it on Reverb in mint condition for $400 US and bit. I still haven't gotten around to playing with it, but thought I'd mention to not be scared to experiment under the hood. Really, the best sounds on that thing are the ones that haven't been made yet.
Didn't let me finish.... Anyway, I recently found it in Mint condition for $400 US on Reverb and bit. But really, don't be afraid to tinker around under the hood - the best sounds on that are the ones that haven't yet been made.
Enjoyable little review. Thanks for sharing. Picked up one missing some teeth, myself. We'll see how it sounds in a few days.
kind thanks!! yeah the ensoniq old school transwave keyboards are great, I have the ts-12 on the wish list due to its retro space synth vibes and cool design! they did a good job, i repaired my keys with icecream container lids! totally works, the keys are about which is handy! and the battery tends to go on the older ones, still hunting a good cart to give it more sounds, but its a good old solid tank, i use it for a midi keyboard a bit due to its feels.
Synthesizers are so cool, aren’t they? Closest thing I have to one is a Yamaha PSR-640 from ‘99. I have little to no experience with piano and I’m starting this summer! One day I’ll be able to use MIDI with my LMMS compositions. Thank you Module for this keyboard tour, I hadn’t heard of Ensoniq synths until today!
Yeah ensoniq is great my fav is the TS12 perfect for really interesting sounds. Soundtrack or Sci Fi, I just got a neutron recently, analog beasty, sounds a bit like a Moog, pretty awesome, cool glad you enjoyed me being a synth nerd 🤓🎛️
Sounds cool! I should definitely research those. Yeah I enjoy mixing synth and dubstep elements it makes things more interesting… go synth nerds!
@@M-BLOC yeah i love a bit of dubstep, i really enjoy a lot of chillstep tunes, lush as, yeah, if you use plugins i suggest surge XT vsti that thing does it all surge-synthesizer.github.io/
Dubstep is great. Yeah that plug-in might really help considering I only have a few dubstep noises currently.
@@M-BLOC yeah it's perfect for that. So much modulation options which is a part of that sound, variable LFO speeds etc. It's free so worth a jam, UA-cam tutorials are around for more depth.
👌🏻👌🏻
thanks heaps for watching!! hope you enjoyed it :) Jeramiah
@@jeramiahrossnz yeah i liked it:))
@@thenewstar1856 cheers, yeah i love these old keyboards, once you get to know what they do its a cool sound!
@@jeramiahrossnz 😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
I owned one, piano is horrible, organ and clavinet are exceptional.
yeah the piano is good if you want to sound like really terrible pop music from the early 90s, there's some neat more spacey sounds, more so on the TS-10 and 12 series, (my other fav) cool glad you enjoyed my random video :)
Sensitive?
Yeah touch sensitivity is on there heaps of levels and adjustments
