    8:00 I agree, I grew up part of my life lower class as a kid and one thing my mother and father made sure we had was a clean home. No excuses. Just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to be dirty. Even if you are out in the boonies, burn your trash at least. Sweep 😂

    I'm pleasantly surprised by how informed and level headed a lot of the people interviewed were. It kind of shined a light on the way even my own unrealized biases and beliefs shaped how I viewed them before I heard them speak. It's refreshing to see how alike most of us are. Good stuff.

      I just had that dude pop up in my feed last week and I watched three different videos from him. He is outstanding. Seems like a solid dude. What videos did I watch, he met up with a couple in Louisiana and they went to their houseboat (not their main house) and stayed out there with them for a bit. It was great. That couple also has a YT channel called Dat Cajun Life, which is good too. Then I watched him get up with a farmer in Louisiana, that was good too. I can't remember what the other one was, maybe I only watched two. I plan on watching more of his stuff though.

    This poverty has always existed in a country with the worst income and wealth distribution of any in the developed world and especially in cities and in Appalachia (as here in this video). Large business interests control legislatures (especially at the state level) and write the laws through that control, as well as the tax code--so much so that the housekeeper for Elon Musk will pay a higher tax rate than him (not to single out Musk). The sad thing is that the politicians in these poorer states, especially, get these folks outraged about cultural issues, get them to vote against their economic interests, get them to reject labor unions, etc. And they often are rightly bitter. Income maldistribution has been the most continuously problematic issue in the US.

    Part of the reason Eastern Kentucky is in such bad shape is because when the jobs left, the people who worked also left. All four of my grandparents were from Eastern Kentucky. Between 1940 and 1970 practically my entire family moved away to look for work. Only a few family members still live there. The rest are spread all over the country. I live in Ohio. I own the farm in Kentucky my grandma grew up on and I would love to be able to live there - but it will have to wait until I retire.
    One of my mom's cousins is still there and I asked him if he knew of anybody I could hire to grade the drive to the farm and he said, "nope. They're all on drugs."

    Kentucky’s poverty issues are due to factors such as limited job opportunities, low educational attainment levels, and healthcare disparities. In addition, Kentucky places a heavy tax burden on the poor.
    By imposing the income tax on families making as little as $5,000 per year, Kentucky makes it harder for low-wage workers to make ends meet. Since the 1950’s Kentucky has been reliably Republican.

      People need to realize there are benefits to both parties. Being solely one party or extreme one party benefits absolutely no one and doesn’t leave room for any sort of collaboration to reach a better place of living. US government is a joke where the main concern is protecting their party (not the citizens) and gaining the upper hand.
      Otherwise, liberals/democrats are too concerned with just lazily giving handouts, rather than providing resources for poorer people to learn skills, which in turn results in more pride and desire to contribute. Conservatives/republicans are too concerned with getting further from traditional values which were implemented in an America that existed decades ago (times change so values naturally should change). Just my opinion

    • @Flanjam240
      @Flanjam240 Місяць тому

      Securing the borders won’t do anything to help that unfortunately…. A large number of The drugs that are impacting our country are being manufactured by our own people… yes, drugs are coming in from our borders in large quantities but at the end of the day it’s our citizens that are distributing these drugs out to other citizens. If we shut down the borders drug use will still be prevalent in our country, then who will we blame?

    • @luchts4547
      @luchts4547 Місяць тому +1

      Most of the drugs are coming in through ports of entry (vehicles, planes, ships), not being carried in by migrants hopping the fence. It's impossible to thoroughly search every vehicle that's coming in. But regardless, drugs coming over the border is a SYMPTOM, not the underlying problem. The problem is the demand for drugs in America. Whether it's people cooking meth in their bathtub or cartels sending fentanyl over the border, all they're doing is answering the demand.
      If we want to solve this problem we need to ask WHY is there such a demand for drugs? Might have something to do with the cost of healthcare in this country. People can't afford to go to the doctor, they can't afford mental healthcare, and even if they do they can't afford the co-pays on their prescription drugs. The leads to self-medicating. People in pain, be it physical or mental, are going to look for something to feel better. Some use legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco, some overeat junk food to cope, and some are gonna get into hard drugs. With all of them it's just a spiral into increasing worse health and increasingly drastic self-medicating.
      In my view that is the engine driving the drug market in America. The right likes to claim "you can't ban guns, the criminals who want guns will always be able to get guns". You'd think they'd realize that applies to drugs as well. You could completely lock down the border. Someone will just start making the drugs here to fill the market, or people will just switch from fentanyl to meth which is already made in abundance here. The only way to improve things is to reduce the demand for the drugs.

    • @waynem.7226
      @waynem.7226 Місяць тому

      The drugs pour in here from other countries because Americans buy those drugs. The U.S. is a completely doped up nation. Why blame the other countries for finding where the demand for drugs is located and providing it? That's how all good enterprises operate.

If you become unemployed here, the social system will help you...your rent, heating costs, health insurance will be paid by the state! Btw. EVERYONE in Germany has statutory health insurance, it's compulsory here! As a minimum, everyone who has submitted an application gets ~500€ for free disposal / for living expenses! If you have a low-paid job, you will continue to be supported by the state! Germany is not a land of milk and honey for the lazy, because of course you have to fulfill state requirements in order to receive this money...but if you are not stupid, you can get by quite well here!

      That is ridiculous propaganda that started getting pushed by the right-wing a few decades ago. Nobody deserves to make a disproportionate amount of the money earned off of someone else's labor. If you can't run a job that pays employees enough to live, you don't deserve to keep your company running. It's the free market, right? Funny how conservatives never acknowledge that, they just believe they're entitled to have cheap labor.

You can't tell everyone working them they just need to find a better job, because if everyone took your advice, our economy would collapse from not having anyone working essential jobs. Most of these jobs, like grocery chains and gas station chains are making billions in profits and could easily afford to pay their workers a living wage. The executives are just not willing to sacrifice their money for their 3rd yacht and 8th vacation home.

    This ish was clearly right winged propaganda. All the questions were front loaded with talking points. His first question was about white privilege. He was so sure they were gonna buck back on that. It's so silly

      I agree. The concept of white privilege is silly. There's no such thing in this country.

      The young guy Landon understands what white privilege is. It has nothing to do with finances. Then he asked the other guys and they gave him pretty much the same feedback.
      They know the history of this country.

      I mean, to me it just showed that the people he talked to were more aware of the issue than I would've given them credit for. I agree his description of "white privilege " was pretty inaccurate and ignorant, but he still showed their responses which were surprisingly reasonable.

      @@ANTI_FAscist_WW2champs Same thing. Food Stamps. Noways it's like a credit card. Biggest racket in America. I grew up dirt poor in West Virginia and trust me, they used those things for everything but food. People would buy them for $0.60 on the dollar, bootleggers would take them for booze. I'm sure there's a dozen scams to rob the EBT cards by now.
