I was junior champ of Ireland in 1976 riding this bike. I want over a jump and the bottom, casting of the forks blew out the oil. I also emptied the piston out of the exhaust as the conrods were prone to snapping. But there you go, I loved this bike I was only 18.
Those negative nelly's can p'ff. I got my retired 75' 360 Pursang and 83' 480 in my mancave. With all my stories; they are the most popular conversational pieces. As always, dgg'n the commentary Chris..
Point / magneto ignition? I had one of these for years, The points were external, not under the flywheel, so I mounted another set of points from a Honda. The second set opened reverse and faced the original points which operated off the crankshaft cam lobe. One set of points opened almost at TDC and the second had the proper advance. A single throw, double pole toggle switch allowed switching from one set to the other. Since most my riding was trail riding this make-shift ordeal combined with the standard cylinder wall compression release really eased engine starting.
@@Nudnik1 - I believe the points I used came from an old Honda Z50. These were physically made reverse of the points Maico used which allowed mounting close to the original.
I owned what I believed was an AW450 for a year or so. Since then it has been extremely difficult to get any history on this model... mostly all I can find is an "AW440", but I DID find an old Motocross Action article on the AW450.. so it DID exist. Any thoughts on finding info on this? It was a GREAT bike!
