Experimenting with Mixed Media [Renee Segedin]

In this video I use acrylic paint in cobalt blue and Paynes grey for the first layer of the tiger painting.
Next was so much fun I went outside and used spray paint to create drips and spray effects.
This was where I jumped in too soon with the oil paints, because once you put oils down you can no longer use acrylics and spray paint.
A mistake I made was in the composition, I had to keep adding elements such as vines and plants to try and fix the composition. That didn’t work out but I fixed it in the end with flowers.
Although it wasn’t the painting I envisioned at the start I turned out ok. Definitely not my usual style.
My intentions for this painting was too experiment with different mixed media with lots of layers and glazing, discovering new techniques and a style of painting with more expressive freedom while still making a realistic portrait.
This is the direction I see myself going in the future. Rather than using pure oils all the time, I’m desperately in need of using all the wonderful Artist tools out there!
