- in this video i explained Why #SMPS Fluctuates / Reasons for SMPS #Fluctuation Switch Mode Power Supply. in this tutorial i explained functional description of switch mode power supply, what is fluctuation in output voltage. it happens when there is feedback missing or some failure in feedback loop,
if vcc voltage are out of specified limit then the ic may drive in Over Load Protection OLP mode, or it may go in under voltage lockout UVLO, in OLP or UVLO condition the ic will disconnect the drive signal.
whenever there is some overload condition which will cause to draw over current from the converter but in that situation the smps controller will reach at maximum duty cycle value and the vcc pin will reach at OLP (overload protection) so the output will remain disconnected until the vcc pin will decrease at its UVLO value.

Thank you, you solved my broken SMPS. The device was always restarting. First I tested the sec. unit. No failed components.
Then I measured the start up supply cap in circuit (47uF 25 V rated). I got 45 uF. So I tought it would be ok. Then I measured the voltage on start up cap. it was drifting around 7 V. After desolding the cap I check it cap with a ESR Meter. Resistance was over 6 Ohms!. So I replaced the start up cap (new cap resistance < 0.5 ohm) , now it works.

Among all 37 comments,all are replying well,but nobody cross questioned however you have covered all possible factors for fluctuations but one more point for the same is dry solder of ground terminal of auxiliary winding or feedback windings
Yes always inspect pcb and check traces and solder points with microscope.

Smps मेरा विषय तो नही है लेकिन आपके बताने का तरीका ऐसा है कि खुद को रोक नही सकता।
मेरे साथ कभी कभी एक समस्या आती रहती है एक 6 pin का smd ic है इसका नम्बर qbqo या फिर qbqp या और भी कोड नम्बर से आते हैं।इसका output pin 6 नम्बर है vcc 5 नम्बर ground 1 नम्बर है।
स्कूटी के चार्जर में कभी कभी ये ic दिख जाता है और प्रायः जला हुआ।
अब प्रश्न ये है कि ये मिलेगा कैसे और किस नम्बर से।
कृपया मदद करें।

Haseeb I have no optocoupler in my old robotarm SMPS, whichever I can replace by a diode for testing, but a very little yellow feedback transformer which separates the hot and cold side galvanicly.
Is there a way to still apply your trick with the diode? or some other solution for testing both sides and disabling the feedback?

My tester glowing on output terminal. Is it work like that. I cheeked another smps it also glows tester can you explain why. Its ok when earth is connected.

I have a laptop adapter. The feedback os fixed at 1 volt. However, the voltage at the Vcc capacitor is changing rapidly. Similarly, the output voltage is also changing rapidly. Could you please tell what could be the possible reasons.

Sir, My 12 volt 1ampere SMPS adapter voltages shows ok , not fluctuations but ampere fluctuates from low to 1.26 amp when I measure by multimeter ,please reply.

this small electrolyte capacitor (0.1uf to 47uf and 50V normally) it is connected to the vcc pin of the smps controller

I accidentally short circuit the direct secondary terminal of smps transformer and the smps stop working, (checked no fuse blown).. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO FIX IT....

please check its feedback circuit. check TL431 and its sense line (voltage divider network) check optocoupler are
check vcc circuit of the PWM IC. might be it have some issue

Hello sir wallekum salaam. My question is not related to Smps, I got filament lamp with no data how can I confirm the voltage of it , can I connect it with series lamp and vary the auto transformer .thanks
if it is dc lamp
then try to use variable dc power supply to get its nearly full brightness
if it is AC lamp
then you can use variable transformer for AC voltage. or try to use different series lamps like 15 watt, then 40 watt, then 60 watt then 100watt
then 200 watt to determine its power rating

we must check datasheet for proper work. as i always insist in videos to follow datasheet or sample circuit
in some smps IC (specially adjustable switching frequency type ICs as UC384X series or TL494 or SG3525 type ICSs) we need to consult the RT / CT components to know the exact frequency as these are programmed by the designer for perfect alternate
What could be the fault of the welding machine where everything is tested and are ok but it can not weld ? And can only release small Sparks like that of the earthing !
I have never understood why the bulck capacitor libe can not provide constant current to uc38xx since this line supply power to the rest of the circuit, including aux winding.

you are right, if we want to test test regulation test ( either line regulation or load regulation)
but if the vcc is adjusted wrongly,or vcc components get devalue or vcc winding gets dry joint, then the power supply will fluctuate without load
if there is some high leakage in secondary section, it will cause to drive the smps in overload condition then the smps will fluctuate without load
