Oh for God's sake! In the first place, there are NOT "a lot of crescendos in that piece." I count two major crescendi and they're certainly not random. It is a relatively easy piece, musically -- not to mention famous and popular. I have NEVER in my life, nor had my mother and grandmother before me seen a singer trot out for a recital or concert with music. In fact, had it happened, certainly at a professional's event, we would have left. If this is condoned, then why not have concert pianists use music, have comedians read their jokes off note cards, and have actors take their scripts out onstage with them?
